重新确定主语
• 直接把原文的主语当作译文的主语后， 译文有时难免显得生硬，句子结构显 得不平衡，或者上下文在语气上显得 不连贯,或者表达不符合英语习惯。
• 为保证译文逻辑通顺、行文流畅、语 言自然地道，行使与原文类似的功能， 需要重新选择、确定主语。

• 汉语句子中主语隐含或无主语时常可见。 译成英文必须依照英语的要求，将主语增 补进来，或者另觅它途。
• 进行增补时首先要推敲语境，其次要考虑 英语语法习惯和行文的需要。

人们随处可以见到市区的改善。 The sight of the orphan always reminds me of his parents. 我看到这孤儿就会想起他的双亲。

这是因为英语较注重客体思维，而汉语 则较注重主体思维。当需要表示某个事 件时，英语较注重“什么事发生在某人 身上”，而汉语则较注重“某人怎么样 了”。在句子中，英语常用表示无生命 的物体或抽象概念的名词或各种形式的 非谓语动词做主语，而汉语则较多地使 用表示人或动物的名称做主语。

英语的主语偏重于“形”，是主语突出的 语言，主题往往就是句子的主语。
汉语是偏重意合的语言，主语和谓语呈一种松散的结构关 系，主语不决定谓语的形态，因此可以以话题的形式出现。
所谓话题，指一句话里作为新情况的述说对象的事物或事 件，其特点是占据一句话的开头部位，但并不等同语法系 统中的主语。如“昨天晚上他进过这间屋子”，这里的 “昨天晚上”是主题，但不是主语，而是状语。
三、英、汉主语的翻译策略
（一）主语显著与话题显著的转换
英语主语显著和汉语的话语显著的划分对英汉互译具有重要的 指导意义。根据翻译的原则，译文的语言必须符合译语的表达 习惯，所以在英译汉时，要把英语的主语显著调整为汉语的话 题显著。在实际操作中就是选择适当的部分作为话题。如：

从语义上讲，“主语可以是施事、受事、工具、与事、结 果、描述对象、判断对象、评议对象等”。
汉语至少有 10 种主语。即(1)施事主语( “警察抓住了三个 小偷” )，(2) 受事主语 ( “三个小偷都抓住了” )，(3)零 位主语( “下雨了”、“刮风了” )， (4)主题主语( “老虎 是一种动物” )，(5)时间主语( “昨晚抓住了三个小偷” )， (6)地点主语( “公共汽车上抓住了三个小偷” )，(7)工具 主语(一把菜刀闹革命)， (8)方式主语( “这么快就盖好了 一座房子” ) ， (9)存现主语( “处处有热心人” )，(10)关 系主语( “这件事请保密” )。

4. 主语译为从句、动名词或不定式结构
• 吃得太多，并不会使人更健康；相反，吃 得太多，尤其是吃含脂肪多的食物，会对 人体的健康有害。因此，节食是可取的。

无灵主语与有灵主语
这是因为英语较注重客体思维，而汉语 则较注重主体思维。当需要表示某个事 件时，英语较注重“什么事发生在某人 身上”，而汉语则较注重“某人怎么样 了”。在句子中，英语常用表示无生命 的物体或抽象概念的名词或各种形式的 非谓语动词做主语，而汉语则较多地使 用表示人或动物的名称做主语。
这是英语中的一种特殊结构，英 语中的动词see，find，witness都可 以用于这种结构，即“时间/地点名词 +saw/found/witnessed+名词”，表 示在某个时间或地点里发生或者见证 了某种事情。将这种类型的句子翻译 成汉语时，往往只能将原文的时间或 地点名词翻译成汉语中的时间或地点 状语。

★英语是一种注重主语的语言（subjectprominent language）,而汉语则是注重主题的 语言(topic-prominent language)。具体地说，汉 语经常采用主题—述题（topic—comment）的 句式，主语的句法功能弱，有时还不容易识别； 英语主语的句法功能强，几乎都采用主语—谓 语（subject—predicate）的句式，主语是整个 句子最关键的成份。

Ⅲ 汉语句子主语的翻译技巧
• 无论汉语原句是典型的主题－述题结构还是 与英语类似的主－动－宾结构，假如直接把 原文的主题或主语取作译文的主语后，译文 显得生硬，句子结构不平衡，或者与上下文 在语气上不连贯，那么就要设法把原文其他 成分，也许是名词、形容词、副词或动词， 取作译文的主语。

★中国人有“天人合一”的观点，强调人与自 然的浑然一体，因而汉语句子习惯以人作主 语或无主语。英美人则较强调客观，因而英 语句子主语常以物或抽象观念做主语。
e.g. : ●她从来没想到他是个不诚实的人。
It never occurred to her that he was a dishonest man. (强调客观事实“他不诚实 ”) She has never thought that he is a dishonest man.（强调主观印象）
