Forrest Gump is a novel in 1986 by Winston
Groom. The title character adventures ranging from shrimp boating , ping pong championships to thinking about his love of childhood. The Vietnam War and college football are also parts of the story.

• For all its ambition, the movie ends up using great historical events in the service of a dubious sentimentality. • Judging by the movie's enduring popularity, the message that stupidity is redemption is clearly what a lot of Americans want to hear. • Forrest Gump has the elements of an emotionally gripping story. Yet it feels less like a romance than like a coffee-table book celebrating the magic of special effects. • This Oscar-winner divided critics in its chronicle of the long journey taken by a slow-witted boy through American history and politics, but there was consensus about the high-caliber acting of Hanks, who won a second, consecutive Best Actor Oscar.

RUNNING
• Forrest's newfound loneliness leads him to take a run "for no particular reason." At first, he decides to run to the end of the road, then across town, then across the county, then all the way to the Mississippi border. • Eventually, he crisis-crosses the country several times over a span of three years. Forrest attracts media coverage, and eventually, dozens of followers initiating and inspiring what would become the jogging craze of 1978–79.

At his college graduation in 1967, Forrest was approached by an army recruiter who asked if he'd given any thought to his future. Soon after, Forrest would join the United States Army. On the bus, Forrest met Benjamin Buford Blue, a young black man from Bayou La Batre, Alabama, who went by the nickname "Bubba". Bubba told Forrest about his family history of cooking shrimp and how he had planned to buy his own shrimping boat after getting out of the army. Bubba explains to Forrest that he loves all kinds of shrimp.
Forrest returned home to Greenbow in September 1976 when he learned his mother was dying of cancer. After her death, Forrest stayed and left his own shrimping industry in the hands of Lieutenant Dan and retired to mowing and cutting grass and lawns, as he apparently enjoyed doing it.

Forrest Gump: Will you marry me? • Forrest Gump: I'd make a good husband, Jenny. • Jenny Curran: You would, Forrest. You don't wanna marry me. • Forrest Gump: Why don't you love me, Jenny? I'm not a smart man, but I know what love is.

Forrest himself was shot in the buttocks during the firefight and recovered in an army hospital. Lieutenant Dan was in the bed next to his, having lost his legs because of his injuries. Lieutenant Dan was angry with Forrest for cheating him out of his destiny to die in battle with honor (as several of his ancestors had) and rendering him crippled.
At the end of the story ,Gump and his son sat near the road waiting for the school bus .Gump said love to his son .The scene repeated itself as if it had happened yesterday.
• While recovering from his wounds in the hospital, Forrest had taken up ping-pong. Rather than returning to Vietnam, Forrest was assigned to the Special Services, entertaining wounded veterans with his ping-pong skills. He would later travel to the People's Republic of China during the Ping Pong Diplomacy period.
At last, Gump married Jenny with their own child. Lieutenant Dan went to attend his wedding ceremony with his new haircut, his new girlfriend and his new life. Sorrowfully, Jenny died after a short happy spell, Gump went to her grave to lay one's heart bare and cried like a child.
