The bridge is unique for still having shops built along it, as was common in the days of the Medici. Butchers originally occupied souvenir sellers. It is said that the economic concept of bankruptcy originated here: when a merchant could not pay his debts, the table on which he sold his goods was physically broken by soldiers, and this practice was called “bancorotto (broken table)”.Golden Gate BridgeThe Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the strait between San Francisco and Marin County to the north. It is the masterwork of architect Joseph B. Strauss, whose statue graces the southern observation deck. The bridge took seven years to build, and was completed in 1937. The Golden Gate Bridge used to be the longest suspension bridge span in the world. And today it has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in San Francisco and California. Since its completion, the span length has been surpassed by eight other bridges. The famous red-orange color of the bridge was specifically chosen to make the bridge more easily visible through the thick frog that frequently covers the bridge.Millau BridgeStarted in 1998 and opened to traffic in 2005, the Millau Viaduct is a huge cable-stayed road-bridge that spans the valley of the river Tarn near Millau in southern France. It is the tallest highway bridge in the world, with the highest pylon's summit at 343 meters—slightly taller than the Eiffel Tower. The speed limit on the bridge was reduced from 130 km/h to 110 km/h because of traffic slowing down, due to tourists taking pictures of the bridge from the vehicles. Shortly after the bridge opened to traffic, passengers were stopping to admire the landscape and the bridge itself.Charles BridgeThe Charles Bridge is a famous stone Gothic bridge that crosses the Vltava River in Prague, Czech Republic. Its construction started in 1357 under the support of King Charles IV, and finished in the beginning of the 15th century. As the only means of crossing the river Vltava, theCharles Bridge was the most important connection between the Old Town and the area around Prague Castle. Connection made Prague important as a trade route between Eastern and Western Europe. Today it is one of the most visited sights in Prague with painters, owners of kiosks and other traders alongside numerous tourists crossing the bridge.()51. Which of the following statements is TRUE about the Golden Gate Bridge?A. The span length ranks the 8th in the world.B. Its color enables travelers to see it easily on foggy days.C. It is the most popular tourist attraction in America.D. It took Joseph B. Strauss 7 years to design the bridge.()53. The Charles Bridge played an important role in Prague, Czech Republic because ________.A. it attracted many famous painters thereB. it was supported by Kin Charles IVC. it was the only stone Gothic bridge crossing the Vltava RiverD. it promoted the trade between Eastern and Western EuropeBTELECOMMUTERS fall into two camps. Some sit on the sofa watching daytime soaps, pausing occasionally to check their BlackBerrys. Most, however, do real work, undistracted by meetings and talkative colleagues. In the future more people will work from home. With office space in London and New York so costly, many firms save money by encouraging staff to work in their loose clothes. Instead of having to bury their noses in strangers' armpits on crowded trains, they can work via e-mail, Skype and virtual private networks.Yet, in a research published in MIT Sloan Management Review, Daniel Cable of the London Business School shows that telecommuters are less likely to be promoted. In one experiment subjects were asked to judge scenarios in which the only difference was whether the employee was at his office desk or at home. Managers rated those at the office to be more dependable and industrious, regardless of the quality of their work.Visibility creates the illusion of value. Being the last to leave the office impresses bosses, even if you are actually larking around(胡闹) on Facebook. Oddly, this holds true at firms that explicitly encourage staff to work from home. Many Californian tech firms asked employees not to come to the office too often; yet bosses unconsciously punished those who obeyed.Remote workers understand this. Many frequently sent their bosses with progress reports to prove they are on the job. A fifth of the workers in the study admitted to leaving an e-mail or voice mail early or late in the day. Still, many are not as smart as they think. Some choose a Monday or Friday to work at home. That, says Mr. Cable, makes others think they are eager to extend the weekend.A culture of presenteeism hurts working mothers most. Many women (and some men) work from home to allow themselves the flexibility to pick up kids from school. That need not mean they produce less; only that they do it at a time and a place of their own choosing. Some firms, such as Best Buy, an electronics retailer, recognize this and try hard to evaluate staff entirely on performance. But this is not easy. Intangibles such as teamworking skills matter, too. Mr. Cable thinks homeworking will lose its stigma(污名) only when most people do it. Or perhaps when the boss is telecommuting, too.()54. What is most likely the main cause of the increasing number of telecommuters?A. Increasing location rents.B. Annoying talkative colleagues.C. High-tech mobile phones.D. Attractive daytime soaps.()55. What does the example of many California tech firms prove?A. Working at home is impractical in tech firms.B. Employees' presence at office raises their value.C. Employees should judge when to obey.D. Bosses often don't keep their promises.()56. What do wise telecommuters do to prove they are on the job?A. They give timely accounts of their work progress to their bosses.B. They check their e-mails and voice mails every day.C. They discuss the work with their bosses.D. They spend some time working on weekends.()57. What is the biggest disadvantage of working at home according to the lastparagraph?A. The traditional working culture can be hurt.B. Mothers' work may be interrupted by their kids.C. Retailers can't get enough on-site employees.D. Employees may lack chances to develop certain skills.CAlzheimer's disease has no cure. There are, however, five drugs—known and approved—that can slow down the development of its symptoms. The earlier such drugs are administered, the better. Unfortunately, the disease is usually first noticed when people complain to their doctors of memory problems. That is normally too late for the drugs to do much good. A simple and reliable test for Alzheimer's that can be administered to everybody over the age of about 65, before memory-loss sets in, would therefore be useful.Theo Luider, of the Erasmus University Medical Centre in Rotterdam, and his colleagues think they have found one—but it works only in women. They made their discovery, just reported in the Journal of Proteome Research, by tapping into a long-term, continuing study that started in 1995 with 1,077 non-demented and otherwise healthy people aged between 60 and 90. At the beginning of the project, and subsequently during the periods 1997-99 and 2002-04, participants were brought in for a battery of neurological(神经学的) and cognitive(认知的) investigations, physical examinations, brain imaging and blood tests.During the first ten years of the study, 43 of the volunteers developed Alzheimer's diseases. When Dr. Luider compared blood samples from these people with samples from 43 of their fellow volunteers, matched for sex and age, who had remained Alzheimer's-free, he found something surprising. Levels of a substance called pregnancy zone protein had been unusually high, even before their symptoms appeared, in some of those who went on to develop Alzheimer's disease. Those “some”,it turned out, were all women. On average, levels of pregnancy zone protein in those women who went on to develop Alzheimer's were almost 60% higher than those of women who did not. In men, levels of the protein were the same for both. The reason for this curious result seems to be that the brain plaques(斑块) associated with Alzheimer's disease are themselves turning out pregnancy zone protein. Certainly, when Dr. Luider applied a chemical stain specific to that protein to the plaques of dead Alzheimer's patientshe found the protein present in them.Confusingly, though, it was there in the plaques of both sexes. Presumably, female cells (and therefore the plaques of female brains) make more of it than male cells do. But that remains to be proved. Whatever the reason, however, this result means that women, at least, may soon be able to tell whether and when they are at risk of Alzheimer's and thus do something about it before they start losing their minds.()58. What can we learn from the first paragraph?A. No medication can slow down the development of Alzheimer's symptoms.B. To detect Alzheimer's disease before memory loss appears is vital.C. Doctors had better handle Alzheimer's disease when people are 65 years old.D. People who always complain are most likely to have Alzheimer's disease.()59. The underlined word “one” in Paragraph 2 refers to ________.A. a simple and reliable test for Alizheimer'sB. a possible cure for Alzheimer'sC. an important discovery about Alzheimer'sD. an effective and legal drug for Alzheimer's()60. What does Dr. Luider's study tell us about the pregnancy zone protein?A. It won't go high until the symptoms of Alzheimer's appear.B. In men, levels of it remain stable for their lifetime.C. Women developing Alzheimer's usually have lower levels of it.D. The brain plaques connected with Alzheimer's produce it.()61. The passage is mainly about ________.A. patients of Alzheimer's disease and its drugsB. an introduction to the pregnancy zone proteinC. a new discovery concerning Alzheimer's diseaseD. the development stages of Alzheimer's diseaseDHe was in the first third-grade class I taught at Saint Mary's School in Morris, Minnesota. All 34 of my students were dear to me, but Mark Eklund was one in a million. Very neat in appearance, he had that happy-to-be-alive attitude that made even his occasional mischievousness delightful.Mark also talked continuously. I had to remind him again and again that talking withoutpermission was not acceptable. One morning my patience was growing thin when Mark talked once too often, and then I made a novice-teacher's mistake. I looked at Mark and said, “If you say one more word, I am going to tape your mouth shut!”It wasn't ten seconds later when Chuck blurted out, “Mark is talking again.”I hadn't asked any of the students to help me watch Mark, but since I had stated the punishment in front of the class, I had to act on it.I remember the scene as if it had occurred this morning. Without saying a word, I proceeded to Mark's desk, tore off two pieces of tape and made a big X with them over his mouth. I then returned to the front of the room.As I glanced at Mark to see how he was doing, he winked at me. That did it! I started laughing. The entire class cheered as I walked back to Mark's desk, removed the tape, and shrugged my shoulders. His first words were, “Thank you for correcting me, Sister.”At the end of the year I was asked to teach junior-high math. The years flew by, and before I knew it Mark was in my classroom again. He was more handsome than ever and just as polite. One Friday, things just didn't feel right. We had worked hard on a new concept all week, and I sensed that the students were growing discouraged with themselves—and edgy with one another.I had to change the mood of the class before it got out of hand. So I asked them to list the names of the other students in the room on two sheets of paper, leaving a space between each name. Then I told them to think of the nicest thing they could say about each of their classmates and write it down. It took the remainder of the class period to finish the assignment. That Saturday, I wrote down the name of each student on a separate sheet of paper, and I listed what everyone else had said about that individual. On Monday I gave each student his or her list. Some of them ran two pages. Before long, the entire class was smiling. “Really?” I heard whispers. “I never knew that meant anything to anyone!”“I didn't know others liked me so much!”No one ever mentioned those papers in class again. I never knew if the students discussed them after class or with their parents, but it didn't matter. The exercise had accomplished its purpose. The students were happy with themselves and one another again. That group of students moved on. Several years later, after I returned from a vacation, I got a call from my father. “The Eklunds called last night,”he began. “Really?”I said. “I haven'theard from them for several years. I wonder how Mark is.”Dad responded quietly. “Mark was killed in Vietnam,”Mark looked so handsome, so mature. All I could think at that moment was, Mark, I would give all the masking tape in the world if only you could talk to me.After the funeral, most of Mark's former classmates headed to Chuck's farmhouse for lunch. Mark's parents were there, obviously waiting for me. “Helen, we want to show you something,”his father said, taking a wallet out of his pocket. “They found this on Mark when he was killed. We thought you might recognize it.”Opening the billfold, he carefully removed two worn pieces of notebook paper that had obviously been taped, folded and refolded many times. I knew without looking that the papers were the ones on which I had listed all the good things each of Mark's classmates had said about him. “Thank you so much for doing that,”Mark's mother said. “As you can see, Mark treasured it.”Mark's classmates started to gather around us. Charlie smiled rather sheepishly and said, “I still have my list. It's in the top drawer of my desk at home.”Then Vicki, another classmate, reached into her pocket-book, took out her wallet and showed her worn and ragged list to the group. “I carry this with me at all times,”Vicki said without hesitation. “I think we all saved our lists.”That's when I finally sat down and cried. I cried for Mark and for all his friends who would never see him again.()62. We feel it when we either blame ourselves for things that turned out badly, or long to undo a choice we made in the past. The effect regret has on our lives and how we deal with regret are equally important. In some cases, regret can be disastrous. In 1995, a British man who regularly played one set of lottery numbers forgot to renew his ticket during the week that his numbers came up. He was so filled with regret and self-blame that he committed suicide. While this is an extreme consequence of regret, it can have many other lesser effects on the mind and body that can still seriously affect our lives.According to recent research, women have more regrets about romantic relationships than men do—not surprising, since women “value social relationships more than men”. 英语高考模拟卷(六)1、The bus screamed to a stop in Nazareth, Israel. Five Australian backpackers boarded and struck up a conversation with me. They asked typical travelers’ questions—where was I going and why was I traveling alone? My plan was to travel with a friend of a friend, I explained, but when I called her that morning, she didn’t pick up and I had no other way to reach her. My stomach was in knots, but I decided to head out anyway, thinking I might run into her if I traveled to Tiberius, where we had planned to go together.“Why don’t you travel with us?” one of the backpackers offered. They were experienced adventurers who would work for a few months, save, then travel for as long as they could. Their current plan was to explore the Middle East and Europe in three months while working in London. It seemed risky to travel with strangers, but my instinct said yes. For the next two weeks, I explored Israel with the backpackers and learned to trust my instincts in all types of new and interesting situations. When they hook a ride, I took the bus, but when they wanted to steal into the King David Hotel’s swimming pool, I led the way. The world opened up to me because I chose to travel alone. I joined complete strangers, who become close friends. Years later, one couple from the backpacking group even flew from Sydney to Phoenix to be in my wedding. The trip was such a special experience that it gave me confidence in all areas of my life. Since then,I’ve backpacked alone across South Africa, sky-dived from 12,000 feet in New Zealand and even moved across the U.S. with no job lined up.On my third day wandering in Israel with my new friends, I bumped into the woman I was supposed to meet. Though I was happy she was all right,I was grateful she hadn’t picked up the phone.1. By “My stomach was in knots” (in paragraph 1), the author most likely means that she was _____.A. sick of riding on a bumpy busB. nervous of meeting strangersC. upset about the sudden changeD. sorry about the impractical plan2.Which of the following best describes the backpackers the author met?A. Courageous but disrespectful.B. Jobless and poorly educated.C. Homeless but lighthearted.D. Warmhearted and trustworthy.3.What can be inferred from the passage?A. The author considered it the best decision of her life to travel on her own.B. The author gathered the courage to be a fulltime backpack traveler.C. The woman missed the phone call with the purpose of traveling alone.D. Most of the backpackers became the author’s lifelong friends.2、Oxford and Cambridge have now decided to remove the words CAN’T and IMPOSSIBLE from their dictionary. Jessica Cox, born in 1983, in Arizona, is the world’s first licensed armless pilot. The girl from Tucson, Arizona got the Sport Pilot certificate lately and became the first pilot licensed to fly using only her feet. Jessica Cox was born without arms, but that has only stopped her from doing one thing: using the word can’t.Cox graduated from the University of Arizona in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in communications. Cox has not used prosthetic arms since she turned 14. Using her feet as most people use their hands, she is able, among other things, to drive an unmodified car with an unrestricted license, to type on a keyboard at 25 words per minute, and to put in and remove her contact lenses.Jessica Cox flew in a single engine airplane for the first time via Wright Flight in 2005. Cox earned her pilots certificate on October 10, 2008 after three years of training and is qualified to fly a light-sport aircraft to altitude of 10,000 feet. She’s a good pilot. She’s rock solid, said Parrish Traweek, 42, the flying instructor at San Manuel’s Ray Blair Airport. Parrish Traweek runs PC Aircraft Maintenance and Flight Services and has trained many pilots, some of whom didn’t come close to Cox’s abilitiesDoctors never learned why she was born without arms, but she figured out early that she didn’t want to use prosthetic devices. So, the next time you are ready to tell yourself, “I can’t possibly…” remember this amazing young woman and change your vocabulary.1.What can we learn from the first paragraph?A.Oxford and Cambridge felt a little disappointed.B.No armless people had got a pilot certificate before.C.Jessica Cox wasn't allowed to use the word "can't".D.The word “can’t” would disappear from the English dictionary.2.What do you think of Jessica Cox?A.She is a clever and brave girl.B.She is positive and determined.C.She is indeed a poorly educated girl.D.She only takes interest in aircraft.3.What does the underlined word “prosthetic” mean in Paragraph 3?A.Artificial.B.Damaged.C.Unusual.D.Abnormal.4.After graduating from university, Jessica Cox______.A.suffered failure when searching for jobsB.made a start to take training to become a pilotC.decided to use her feet as most people use handsD.tried her best to take care of herself in her daily life3、It’s cool, colourful and deliciously sweet, and if those aren’t enough, the strawberry daiquiri is also good for your health.Scientists havefound that treating the berries with alcohol improves their cancer-fig htingfunction , suggesting that strawberry-based cocktails may be better for us than we realized. Game-time cheerleaders’ goal is to entertain the crowd and lead them with team cheers, which shouldnot be considered a sport. However, competitive cheerleading is more than aform of entertainment. It is really a competitive sport.Competitive cheerleading includes lots of physical activity. The majorityof the teams require a certain level of tumbling (翻腾) ability. It’s a veryeasy for them to go into competitivecommon thing for gymnasts, so it’scheerleading. Usual ly these cheerleaders integrate lots of their gymnasticsexperience including their jumps, tumbling, and overall energy. They alsoperform lifts and throws. This is where the “fliers” are thrown in the a in different positions that require strength and workingheld by “bases” with other teammates.Competitive cheerleading is also an activity that is governed by rulesunder which a winner can be declared. It is awarded points for technique, creativity and sharpness. Usually the more difficult the action is, the betterthe score is. That’s why cheerleaders are trying to experience greatdifficulty in their performance.Besides, there is also a strict rule of time. The whole performance hasto be completed in less than three minutes and fifteen seconds, during whichthe cheerleaders are required to stay within a certain area. Any performance beyond the limit of time is invalid.Another reason for the fact that competitive cheerleading is one of thehardest sports is that it has more reported injuries. According to some research, competitive cheerleading is the number one cause of serioussports injuries to women. Emergency room visits for it are five times thenumber than for any other sport, partially because cheerleaders don’protective equipment. Smiling cheerleaders are thrown into the air andmove down into the arms of the teammates, which may easily cause injuries. Generally, these injuries affect all areas of the body, including wrists, shoulders, ankles, head, and neck. There can be no doubt that competitive cheerleading is a sport with professional skills. Hopefully, it will appear in the Olympics since cheerleaders are just as athletic and physically fit as those involved in themore accepted sports. It should be noted that it is a team sport and even thesmallest mistake made by one teammate can bring the score of the entireteam down. So without working together to achieve the goal, first place is outof reach.12. What is the main purpose of competitive cheerleading?A. To compare skills of participants.B. To make the audience feel amused.C. To attract more people to watch events.D. To cheer up the competitors on the court.13. Most students believe that there are many ways to do so. First of all, we can have more interactive activities in class, such as discussions, interviews, story-telling and role-play. In this way, we can have more fun learning English. Secondly, we can take part in more out-of-class activities like English speech contests and English evenings. Through these activities we can improve our English skills in an easy and relaxing way. Thirdly, we need to find more opportunities to communicate in English with people, whether they are English teachers or classmates, foreigners or Chinese, because using English is the best way to learn. These ideas sound reasonable and practical. From my experience, there are many other interesting and relaxing ways. For example, we can listen to English songs and watch English movies. We can also watch English programs on TV or join English clubs or make English pen-friends on the Internet. All in all, what we need is more free time and more space.3. 71. floating;72. unpleasant;73. prevent;74. He had to go to hospital for treatment. When he saw the medical bill from the hospital, which was far beyond what he could afford, he was so shocked that he couldn't stand on his feet. It was really another heart attack for him.At present, many people can't afford heavy medical fees. Because of this, they may get into debt in order to get proper medical treatment or have to wait helplessly for the last day of their life. This situation may do harm to the harmony of our society and eventually interfere with the development of our country. Therefore, we strongly call for health care reform. The government should build up a favorable medical care system so that every person can afford their medical care and can enjoy their life as long as possible.5. 71. affects;72. increases;73. investments;74. requirements;75. paid;76. encourages;77. make(earn);78. provide;79. Obviously, the parents are very angry, but not because their child has been rude to others, but because the teacher “has called their child rude”. What they do exactly accounts for their child’s performance at school. What an example they have set to their child! They are rude to the teacher, so it’s no wonder that their child is impolite to others. To my mind, parents are the first teachers of their children. Parents must be cautious of whatever they say or do in or out of their home because their children are learning from them both consciously and unconsciously. Not only do they have to take care of their children’s life and study but also they must te ach them how to conduct themselves.7. 71. The terrible fire of last November in Jing’an District, Shanghai also claimed 53 lives. All these have taught us a good lesson. How can we survive a fire if it happens?First of all, stay calm. Panic solves no problem. Only by keeping calm can you gain hope of survival. At the same time, find the nearest door or exit and get out as quickly as possible. If there is too much smoke, wet a cloth and cover it over your mouth and nose before rushing out. Keep close to the floor since the higher you are, the heavier smoke there will be.If the door is surrounded with fire and you are on the 1st or 2nd floor, try to climb out through the window. But if you are above 3rd floor, you have to be more cautious since careless jump may lead to serious injuries or even death. You may tear the curtain to make a rope and climb down carefully. In a word, be calm and wise, and then you will find a way out.8. It implies severe educational problems in some rural areas of China. In contrast, the city boy on the right is enjoying all the benefits. The comparison indicates the phenomenon of educational inequality in modern China. School-age country children are often dropping out of school due to poverty. Even those who manage to stay in school are still suffering from the low standards of educational facilities and academic qualities. Comparatively, city children have much better opportunities to receive good education. Thus, schools in the countryside generally have much lower enrollment rates than those in the city, which in turn worsens the problem of educational inequality. To solve this problem, the government should spend more money on the improvement of education in rural areas. Meanwhile, the media can appeal for public donations for rural education. Moreover, all people in the community should be aware of the seriousness of the problem and do whatever to help. Only if we do these can we have more social justice and thus make our society more harmonious.9. 71. changed;72. end;73. connected/linked/joined;74. drive/travel;75. same;76. Father educates their child with a ruler but Mother with a bar of chocolate. What is illustrated in the picture is that Father is too hard on their child while Mother spoils him. They adopt strikingly inconsistent methods, which makes their child confused.I subscribe to neither of their education methods. If we always give children severe punishment, they will become nervous and lack self-confidence or become violent and aggressive, following in the father’s footsteps. If we always love children too much, they will turn out to be self-centered and dependent, tending to do whatever they want to.So far as I am concerned, it is better to use appropriate methods based on children’s individual personalities. Since praise and criticism both play vital roles in children’s education, it is essential that parents should try to maintain the balance between love and strictness. Only in this way can children benefit from proper family education and achieve all-round development.10. 71. jobs;72. associated/connected;73. You may get to the point if the question is put like this:“If you can spend an hour every day helping others, what would you do and why?”If I were you, I would answer the question like this.“If I am asked to donate an hour every day, I will do two things. First, I will spend half an hour walking around the school, picking up rubbish. As students we all wish to live and study in a clean environment. Second, I will use another half an hour to help my neighbour's son with his lessons because his parents are too busy to do so. As a result, they feel sleepy in the day time and can’t concentrate in class. Others can’t get along well with their parents or with their classmates. They always feel stressed and easily get angry. As a matter of fact, there’re many ways for us to deal with our mental problems. First of all, we can turn to our teachers for help, including our teacher of psychology. Secondly, communication is of vital importance. When we have a talk or discussion about our problems with our friends or classmates, we can feel greatly relieved. Lastly but not least, we need to develop a positive attitude towards our studies and our life. Wearing a smile is not only a sign of friendliness but also a cure for bad feelings. I believe these methods will help us live and study happily.12.苏北四市(徐州、淮安、宿迁、连云港)高三年级第三次模拟考试(2011.03)一、单项填空21-25 ADDBC;26-30 BCCDA;31-35 BBAAD二、完形填空36-40 BCDAA;41-45CDBDC;46-50 ABBCD;51-55 ADBCD三、阅读理解A.56-59 BDCA;B.60-63 ACDB;C.64-66 CBD;D.67-70 ABAC四、任务型阅读71. negative;72. passing;73. comparison;74. result;75. others;76. emotions;77. decisive;78. But since our country began to ban the use of them in 2004, things have changed. As is vividly shown in the left cartoon, in the past disposable chopsticks made of wood were often used in our daily life. It is a waste of wood and does harm to the environment. Due to the abuse of disposable chopsticks, many trees were cut down, which resulted in the decrease of the forest.Since 2004, with the ban of using disposable chopsticks and the awareness of forest protection, people begin to reject using disposable chopsticks. Our government has also taken measures to prevent factories from producing such chopsticks and attach importance to forest conservation. Now disposable chopsticks are out sight and more trees appear. This teaches us a good lesson. In our daily life, we should try to use less wood and plant more trees so that our resources can be sustainable and our world can be a better place to live in.13.盐城市2010~2011学年度高三年级第二次调研考试(2011.04)一、单项填空21-25 AADCB;26-30 ADCBC;31-35 ADCAB二、完形填空36-40 ADDAB;41-45CCBDB;46-50 CADBA;51-55 ABCAD三、阅读理解A.56-59 DBAC;B.60-62 BCD;C.63-66 BDAC;D.67-70 ABAB四、任务型阅读71. Many of them are really worried and simply don't know how to educate their children. The cartoon above shows what some parents do when their children fail in school studies. They often burst into anger, scolding or even beating them, while their children in fact are already feeling very sorry for their poor grades. At the same time, some parents may turn to books for help, hoping to find a ready answer. But in fact, what the book says doesn't work in most cases because children are all different - every child has their own way of being smart. As parents, they should try to communicate with their children, respect and understand them, especially when they are not doing very well in their studies. To some extent, parents are their children's first teachers. Their actions and attitudes may encourage their children to behave in the same way.In my opinion, parents should set reasonable expectations for their children, rather than give them high pressure. They should also act as models for their children instead of just giving them 'lectures'.16.南通市20XX届高三第三次模拟考试(2011.05)一、单项填空21-25 CDABD;26-30 DACDB;31-35 BAADD二、完形填空36-40 CBACD;41-45 ABDAD;46-50 CBADC;51-55 BABCD三、阅读理解A.56-58 AAD;B.59-62 BCCB;C.63-66 DCDC;D.67-70 BDCA四、任务型阅读71. Meanwhile, good habits of living will make you develop soundly, both physically and mentally. Therefore you must attach importance to healthy food, constant exercise, reasonable schedules and eyesight protection.Good habits contribute to our success. Once a good habit is formed, it will give us power to control ourselves. While we are making efforts to form good habits, we should try to kick bad habits. Clothes made of animal skins are comfortable to wear. In winter, fur clothes protect you from the cold and keep you warmer. Carrying a fine bag made of animal skins, you look and feel graceful and superior to others. It is true that more and more people have come to be aware of the importance of protecting rare animals, but if we can't stop relevant consumption right now, they will die out soon. It has to be admitted that killing still exists because of the profits it promises. This has also led to the decrease of valuable animals. There should be more education work among us. Teachers, who always work hardest, have more complaints like lack of co-operation from parents and less hard work of students. What should be the appropriate attitude towards test results is always under hot discussion. Gladly, most parents nowadays are quite aware of their own responsibilities. They would co-operate more with teachers afterwards and give enough guidance to their kids. Teachers will undoubtedly re-consider and thus improve their teaching methods aiming to increase classroom efficiency. Students will certainly study harder. In my opinion, it is always the best for family, students and schools to co-operate closely. When kids fail, everybody should be brave enough to bear responsibilities and find practical solutions to avoid similar mistakes. It surely benefits a lot in the construction of a harmonious society as well as forming a friendly relationship between families and schools.19.南京市名校20XX届高三模拟考试(南师附中)(2011.05)一、单项填空21-25 DCCAB;26-30 ABCAB;31-35 DCACC二、完形填空36-40 CABCB;41-45ACCDD;46-50 BACDA;51-55 CDBCC三、阅读理解A.56-59 CAAB;B.60-62 CAC;C.63-66 CDAB;D.67-70 CBBB四、任务型阅读71. bring;72. instead;73. encouraged;74. friends;75. Realizing her mom must be very tired after a day's work, the girl helps to remove the bag from her shoulder. In response, the mom kneels down to show how happy and thankful she feels. All this reminds me of my mother who has been doing whatever she could to let me have the best. But, totally engaged in my own study, I seldom pay attention to what mother needs and feels, and always think studying well is the only thing I could do in return. Now I know I can do my bit to help with the everyday washing, bedroom cleaning, or at least prepare breakfast myself, so as to share mother's daily burden. The picture convinces me it is even more important to be a good daughter than a "good" student.AcknowledgementsEditor: JonyProofreader: Angie; LancelotPowered by the Baidu TM search engineText capture, processing, and typesetting by Angry Camel UnionFirst published 2011All rights reserved.
