One of the most frightening moments for me was the night when I had an accident. I was driving with my friend on the way home after a trip to Wal-Mart and it was completely unexpected. My friend and I began the night by going out to eat and after that we had nothing to do, so we went to Wal-Mart. As we were leaving the parking-lot, we encountered a stop sign and that was where the collision(碰撞)happened.

As we approached the sign, I didn’t see the green truck coming from the left, which was pulling out of the gas station. So all of a sudden, we felt the crash and heard the “boom”. We had hit the back tyre of the truck. My friend and I looked at each other, shocked; neither of us knew what to do.

After we realized what had just happened, the truck we hit started to drive over to the

parking lot so we followed. We parked next to the truck and got out of the car. To make the situation worse, it was raining hard, so we were wet all over. We were about to walk over to the driver when he started shouting at us and I felt so bad but I didn’t k now what to say to him; I felt like crying.

When I got home, I was expecting to be yelled at or even get my car away, but it was just the opposite. My parents just talked to me calmly and said that they were so glad I was okay and that it was not a big accident. They told me to be more careful next time and this was something to learn from. This experience has helped me realize that they are right and I will be more cautious next time, especially with others in my car.

59. How did the autho r feel about his parents’ reaction to the accident?

A. Normal

B. Satisfied

C. Surprised

60. What can we learn from the passage?

D. We can never be too careful when driving.

Sydney is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and the 2000 Olympic Games put it on the map as one of the most lively and modern cities in the world. Any trip to Sydney is an adventure and with some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, this city has so much to offer. Sydney is so large an area that choosing a hotel is something you need to do very carefully. Public transport is good, but it can be slow and being close to where you want to be is probably the most important factor.

The first and most obvious choice is hotels around Circular Quay. Circular Quay is the heart of the city and one of the major interchanges where trains, buses and ferries meet. It’s also where Sydney’s two most famous landmarks are located—Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbor Bridge. This area is active and offers truly some of the best views you will ever get from a hotel room.

Hotels further in the city are much more suited to business travelers and they are usually less expensive. Darling Harbor is a great choice as it mixes a great view with being right in the centre of the city. Darling Harbor has hundreds of pubs, clubs and restaurants along the water’s edge.

If you don’t feel like dealing with the hustle and bustle of the city and are looking for something a bit quieter, why not head out to the Northern Beaches. It’s only a short ferry ride over to Manly where you can find two major hotels on the beach front with a number of smaller

boutiques (精品店).

61.What made Sydney famous as a lively and modern city in the world?

A.Its traditional culture

B. Its beaches and hotels

C. The traffic system

D. The 2000 Olympics

A. traveling to Sydney is dangerous

B. Sydney’s public transport is fast

C. hotels in Manly are cheapest in Sydney.

D. you can enjoy good views in Circular Quay.

63. If you want to live in a quiet hotel and buy some fashionable clothes or expensive gifts, you should choose one in.

A. Circular Quay

B. Darling Harbor

C. Manly

D. Sydney Harbor Bridge

64. The underlined part “hustle and bustle” in the last paragraph may refer to .

A. hot climate

B. serious pollution.

C. busy and noisy activity

D. slow-moving traffic.

65. The passage is mainly to .

A. advertise the hotels in Sydney

B. tell us how to choose a suitable hotel in Sydney

C. show that Sydney is truly a heaven on earth

D. describe Sydney after the 2000 Olympics

New York has long been known as the city that never sleeps, but the business people in Tokyo get less time in bed than those in New York, and also in Paris, Stockholm and Shanghai.

According to a survey of five cities, the business people in Tokyo during weekdays sleep just under 6 hour on average. The business people in Shanghai sleep the longest, seven hours and 28 minutes. Those in New York sleep six hours and 35 minutes, the second shortest after Tokyo.

“I think business people in Tokyo may just be too busy,” said a spokeswoman of the survey. Many Japanese business people are forced into long days by hours of overtime followed by afterhours(业余时间)drinking sessions(聚会)and then a long commute(上下班交通)home, although the survey found that commutes in New York were about equally long. Tokyo trains in both mornings and evenings are full of sleepy commuters. Some even manage to nap standing up as they hold on to overhead rails.

“In Shanghai, people simply seem to go to sleep earlier. Everyone in the five cities of the survey gets up around the same time in the mornings, between 6:30 and 7:00,”said the spokeswoman. “In Tokyo, people seem to do things after they get home as well, like playing computer games. They don’t sleep until after midnight.”

Not surprisingly, when asked what was the most important in their lives, Japanese gave “sleep” the top ranking—the same as their Parisian peers, who nevertheless got nearly seven hours of sleep on weekdays. By contrast, both New Yorkers and Shanghai residents said “time with their family” came first.

66. According to the survey, the business people in Shanghai sleep about.

A. 5 hours

B. 6.5 hours

C. 7.5 hours

D. 8 hours

67. The business people spend about the same time on the road in .

A. Tokyo and Shanghai

B. Paris and Stockholm

C. Paris and Shanghai

D. Tokyo and New York

68. What do business people from the five cities have in common?

A. They are all too busy

B. They live a life of leisure

C. They get up around the same time

D. They spend a long time on commute

69. One reason why people in Tokyo lack sleep is that .

A. they go to bed too late

B. they usually get up too early

C. they often drink and dance

D. they like working on computers

70. In which column of a newspaper could we probably find this passage?

A. Travel

B. People

C. Sports

D. Education

PART FOUR WRITING (45 marks)

SECTION A (10 marks)

Directions: Read the following passage. Complete the diagram by using the information for the passage. Write NO MORE THAN 3 WORDS for each answer.

Studies show that eating dinner together at least 3 or 4 times a week benefits families in many ways.

First of all, eating together helps families achieve open communication and build stronger and healthier relationships. Children receive better grades at school and are better adjusted as teens and adults, and the entire family enjoys a healthier diet. For many families, eating dinner together proves to be a good and effective way to reduce the risk of youth rates of addiction and depression, and helps to keep children healthy. It is also a great time to share the events of the day and discuss news and ideas.

During dinner time, parents have a good opportunity to find out more about their children. When parents have all information they can better direct their kids toward positive activities and behavior in life and they will also be more able to help their children stay away from alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs.

However, family researchers say that the benefits of family dinners can by no means be considered automatic. Parents can sit down to dinner with their kids every day and achieve nothing. No family dinner can help if there is too much arguing going on, if there is no meaningful conversation or, even worse, if there is just plain silence during the meal.

Family dinners are a great way for parents to set and discuss certain rules and be good role models to their children. The benefits of eating together last much longer than many people might think, especially if your family mealtime becomes a regular activity.

SECTION B (10 marks)

Directions: Read the following passage. Answer the questions according to the information given in the passage and the required words limit. Write your answers on your answer sheet.

Working after school and at the weekend can be a very positive experience for a high school student. The only negative aspect I wonder is whether the job seriously affects the housework at home or grades at school. If it’s possible to work and still keep up with housework and keep the grades up, I don’t see any downside.

The obvious advantage of an after-school job is the extra money that it provides. A student can buy things that she or he couldn’t afford before. More than this, it is possible to learn how to deal with money and learn the value of money by earning it yourself. Besides, an after-school job can develop a sense of responsibility in a kid. You may receive no punishment for being a little careless with your housework at home; however, when someone is paying you to do something, you’d better do a good job.

As a kid, I did babysitting and delivered newspapers. I learned to be responsible and to do a good job for the pay. In high school, I went to work for a shoe repair shop and polished shoes there. I made some mistakes but ended up being pretty good at my job. I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter if your job is modest or high level. If you take it seriously and do a good job, there is still a great sense of accomplishment.

81. Who does the writer advise to take an after-school job? (no more than 4 words)

假如你叫李华,最近收到好友刘芳的来信。请写一封不少于120词的回信,就她提出的问题发表你的看法。

Dear Li Hua,

How have you been getting along recently? Since I entered Grade 2, I have felt great pressure from my parents and teachers. And I am more and more worried about my future. That is why I want to tell you what is on my mind.

I know from my cousin that it is quite difficult for graduates to find proper jobs nowadays. Even though they are lucky enough to get a job, their salaries are not very high. But think of the expensive tuition fees(学费) and their living cost during the four years of study! That is a large sum of money for my family. I am wondering whether I should go to college or I should begin working to support my family after graduating from high school.

I am looking forward to your advice.

Yours sincerely,

Liu Fang

注意:

1.至少要列举三条理由以支持你的观点;

2.开头和结尾已经给出,不计入总词数。

Dear Liu Fang,

Thank you for your trust in me. _______________________________________I hope my advice will be of some use to you.

Conversation1

M: May I have this dance with you, Miss?

W: Glad to.

M: This is my favorite kind of music. Do you like it?

W: To tell you the truth, I’m not used to this kind of music. It’s too fast.

M: I see. You don’t have too much pop music in your country, I suppose. But you’re a very goo dancer. You’ll soon get used to it.

Conversation2

W: Here it’s thirty degrees in the middle of April and most Chinese are still wearing jackets. Why is that?

M: There’s a traditional saying, which goes, “keep cold in autumn, keep warm in spring”.

W: I don’t understand.

M: People believe that if you follow these rules, you won’t get sick when the weather changes.

W: How interesting! I’ve n ever heard that before.

Conversation3

W: Hey, Jack, is that your family?

M: Uh-huh. We were at Sun Restaurant for my grandma’s birthday.

W: Is that an Italian restaurant?

M: Yes. It’s my grandma’s favorite. We go there at least once a month.

W: I didn’t kn ow you had a sister.

M: Yeah, that’s Carmen. She’s into dance. She dances for hours every day.

W: I’ll bet she’s good.

M: I guess so.

W: That pasta looks delicious.

M: Everything at Sun is delicious. I’ll take you there on your next birthday. When is it?

W: Tomorrow.

M: Really?

W: No. It’s in January.

Conversation4

W: Hello. Mr. Green? This is Wanda speaking.

M: Oh, Mrs. Reed. Good morning. What’s the matter? I am waiting for you here.

W: I’m very sorry. Mr. Green. I am driving to your house now, but it loo ks like it will be impossible for me to get there by eight o’clock because of the traffic. That’s why I’m calling you to apologize.

M: That’s too bad. Where are you now? How long do you think it will take you to get here?

W: I’m near Yorkshire Station. I t hink it will take at least one more hour, so I should be there around 8:30. I am very sorry to keep you waiting. I should have left the hotel a little bit earlier.

M: That’s quite all right, Mrs. Reed. Don’t worry about it. Take your time.

W: Thank you, Mr. Green.

M: Bye.

Conversation5

W: I really don’t like the way Rosie acts when we go out to eat.

M: Why? What does she do?

W: She’s really rude to the waiters and waitresses. She complains about everything. M: Does she have any reason to complain?

W: No, e very restaurant we’ve been to has good food and good service. But Rosie still found things to complain about!

M: Sounds like no restaurant is good enough for Rosie.

W: No kidding! And we’re going to eat out this coming Friday night. It’s only two days away. She doesn’t listen to me. What should I do?

M: Invite some of your other coworkers to go with you. If the older ladies in your office see the way Rosie behaves, they’ll probably tell her to stop.

W: Good point! And maybe she’ll listen to them because they’re older. Thanks, Carl. M: No problem. I hope it works out.

Conversation6

M: Do you like traveling, Carol?

W: Yes, I’ve just come back from Nanjing.

M: How is the weather there usually?

W: It’s hot in summer and people say it’s one of “the stove cities” of China.

M: Oh? What does that mean?

W: It means it’s very hot in summer. To tell you the truth, I couldn’t put up with i t sometimes.

M: I hate hot weather. Where did you go in Nanjing?

W: There are many interesting places to go, but I only had time to visit Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum(中山陵), one of the most famous sights in Nanjing.

M: How did you like the mausoleum?

W: It was magnificent. And what’s more, there was a beautiful view from there and a lot of fresh air!

M: You must have had a good time there.

W: Yes, except for the weather. And I took many photos.

M: Could I see them?

W: Sure!

Dear Liu Fang,

Thank you for your trust in me.

As your friend, I would like to advise you to go to college although your family will have some difficulty in supporting you during your college years. First of all, going to college is a good opportunity for you to further your education, which makes it possible for you to change your fate. Second, if you can find a good job after graduation, you can put your talents to good use and then realize your dream. Besides, you can get some financial help from society, which will help you finish your studies.

Although finding a job can make your life easier now, I am afraid you might later regret your decision of not going to college. So I think it is wise of you to go to college rather than begin working.

I hope my advice will be of some use to you.

Yours sincerely,

Li Hua

That above everything is the most important. ” 1. How long had Tim and Dom been at sea when their boat was hit by a fishing boat?
