It was the late 1930s,and things were tough.Mum had a hard time raising us on her own in our small community of New Westminster,BC.My dad had drowned in Pitt Lake,five years ago.

Looking back,I realize what Mum went through sending us kids to school.Every morning she would tuck a new piece of cardboard in our shoes,because our soles(鞋底)were worn out.When we got home,Mum would have “French toast” ready for us.Constant moving was typical for my family in those times.Rent was 25 doll ars a month,but Mum couldn’t pay it,and we knew we would be evicted right after Christmas on the first of January.

Christmas was approaching,and we were entitled to a twenty-five-dollar Christmas fund from social services.The inspector came to our house,and searched it from top to bottom to be sure we didn’t have any food hidden away.When he didn’t find any,he issued the cheque to Mum.Mum said that instead of buying food,she would use the 25 dollars to pay back rent,assuring us all of a roof over our heads for a little while longer.She told us then there would be nothing for Christmas.

Unknown to Mum,I had been selling Christmas tree,shoveling snow,and doing odd jobs to earn enough money to buy a new pair of boots.Boots that weren’t patched,boots with no cardboard in the soles.I knew exactly which boots I

wanted.They were ten-inch Top Genuine Pierre Paris and they had a price of 23 dollars.

Well,the big day came on the afternoon of Christmas Eve.I was excited,as I hurried up the road to the shoe store,but on the way I noticed a house with Christmas lights and decorations.It was then I realiz ed at our house,we had no lights,no decorations,nor any money for Christmas goodies.I knew that we would have no t urkey or ham for Christmas,and I felt sad.

关于提高高考英语作文水平的看法 作文在高考试卷中是30分,占了总分的五分之一,因此要给与充分重视,而这又是学生很头痛的一部分。要提高写作水平,就要理解考纲对英语写作的基本要求:根据所给情景,用英语写一篇120~150个单词的短文。情景包括目的、对象、地点、内容,等等。提供情景的形式有图画、图表和文字说明等,本题考查学生根据所给情景,有时要根据实际生活的体验,运用英语进行有效的表达的能力,所写的短文能真实、客观、准确地反映学生本人的英语水平。要达到考纲要求,我们可以从以下几个方面人手: 一、加强基础,注重积累 常言道:“不积跬步,无以至千里;不积细流,无以成江海。”这都是强调基础的重要性,没有基础,一切都将无从谈起。而写好英语作文同样如此,英语基础知识有三方面:1,词汇,即单词、短语、句式。这些需要花费很大的功夫,注重平时的积累,你不可能在短时间内背诵所有的高考词汇,此外还必须理解和运用。2,语法。它包括:名词的单复数;代词的格和性的变化;动词的八种时态和两种语态。3,句型。基本句型有:S(主)+v(谓)(1v)(系动词)+P(表);主谓结构/s(主)+Vi(不及物动词)(谓);主谓宾结构/s(主)+Vt(及物动词)(谓)十0(宾);双宾语结构/S(主)+VT(谓)+InO(间接宾)+DO(直接宾)以及there be结构和一些周定句型。这些基础句型都是在写作中时时遇到离不开的,必须在平时的教学中让写生扎扎实实记牢运用。 二、通过缩写、扩写课文,培养学生的英语概括、扩展能力

2020高中英语新高考 读后续写的升华:删繁就简三秋树,领异标新二月花 引言 我在近日提出读后续写的两个概念。读后续写的内容可以分为:Be a story; Beyond a story. 所谓Be a story,就是把故事说完整即可,不一定要突出一定的道理,类似于情景剧《老友记》,娱乐一下;而Beyond a story是基于一定的主旨(theme)去挖掘人物的内心情感,所有情节的拓展都是服务于主旨。 从浙江的历年读后续写材料和提供的范文看,文章并没有突出一定的主旨,纯粹的Be a story。譬如2016年的妻子赌气和丈夫旅游中分开,然后迷路。续写也是最后两人又和好。包括今年的儿子上学,父母给家里的狗又添了一个伙伴,然后儿子回家。这里面的故事就是单纯地围绕人物线展开,把故事讲完了,就结束了。 我认为无论是be a story还是beyond a story,只要把人物形象刻画出来了,并且续写部分的想象合情合理,都是达到了高考的写作要求。 但有人说,beyond a story对学生来说,太难了。其实这就误解了我的意思。就具体写而言,要想写好,都不容易。甚至be a story 对学生的遣词造句要求更高。因为你完全靠情节胜出,就要在用词上卯足劲,否则这篇文章就干巴巴的。不仅仅没有思想,而且语言平庸,味同嚼蜡。而beyond a story,你虽然语言平庸一点,但是你的思想非常动人,这就弥补了语言表达的匮乏。 以浙江作文题为例 材料大致是:丈夫和妻子去旅游,来到森林里,二人意见不合,妻子赌气跑开了。然后突然发现迷路了。此时看到头上的飞机,估计是找她,但无法让它看到。
