一、教材分析

本课是新目标英语九年级第八单元第二课时。本单元围绕I'll help clean up the city parks开展多种教学活动,让学生学会用I'll help do sth.句型来回答别人的询问和告诉别人自己帮助他人的经历。本课时是一节阅读与口语课,是在学习了帮助他人的方式和大量的听力训练后展开教学的。通过巩固上课所学的短语并进行会话练习,使学生学会给他人提供帮助,通过阅读训练,进一步加深对目标语言的理解和运用。

二、教学目标

1. 知识目标

(1)学习单词和词组。major, commitment, veterinarian, home to, several hours a week, after-school care center, put ... to good use, spend time doing sth., not only ... but also ...

(2)掌握句子。What do you like doing? You could help coach a soccer team of little kids. Not only do I feel good about helping other people, but I get to spend time doing what

I love to do.

2. 能力目标

提高学生的听、说、读、写及自学能力。本课以阅读为主,读的目标是能读懂有关志愿者内容的文章,并在此基础上完成获取相关信息、回答问题等任务。写的目标是学生能在阅读相关范文的基础上模仿并创造性地写作,能进行话题性的书面交流。说的目标是学生能根据所给的信息表达出自己想通过怎样的方式帮助他人。

3. 情感目标

通过阅读与丰富的讨论交流,使学生懂得帮助他人的重要性,进一步激发学生学习英语、热爱生活的激情。

4. 策略目标

(1)善于抓住用英语交流的机会。

(2)积极参与,善于合作。

三、教学重难点

1. 重点

掌握重点词汇及重点句型的用法,学会用目标语言写作。

2. 难点

熟练运用句型help do sth.表达自己的想法,并帮助学生选择他们的志愿者工作。

Tell the students that we're going to read an article about volunteer. Now read the article as quickly as they can, and find out the answer to the question: How do they feel

(1)Let the students read the article again. Underline the kinds of work the volunteers do. Circle the reasons why they like their work.

(2)Show the students 5 questions on the screen, let them answer the questions as we usually do.

The volunteer work takes every student several hours a week.

Li Huiping loves reading and she puts this love to good use by helping school newspaper.

Lan Pei loves animals, and he spends every morning working in an animal hospital.

Zhu Ming wants to be a professional singer. He sings for groups of people at the country hospital.

While they were volunteering, they could spend time doing what they love to do and learn more.

(2)Give them some Chinese sentances, ask them to translate them together.

(1)Ask the students to watch a video and tell the teacher what the video is about.

(2)There is a reporter who wants to invite some students to go to Wenchuan to help the children there as volunteers. Let them watch some more pictures and discuss them in group of four. They can use the questions on the screen.
