As we all know, any country has good reasons to want its citizens to be as healthy as possible. This led to the introduction of a health service in many countries. France has developed into a country

in which all citizens can get most of the health treatment free. The money for this is partly from the people who are willing to offer.

But there are different opinions about the Health Service. The number of patients treated every year and the cost of treatment are much greater than expected. This means that the people who work for the Health Service—doctors, nurses and other hospital workers—have much more work to do, and as a result they have little time for preventive treatment.

However, the tough problem is that as many people are able to receive treatment more expensive than they can pay, sometimes people go and visit their doctors when they don’t really need to. As there are many patients, doctors cannot spend time long enough with each patient. So some people prefer to pay for their own treatment so that their doctors can examine them more carefully. In fact, some rich people feel that they should pay more free money, which would be given to other citizens.

55. France is described as an example to show that _______.

A. people have to pay part of the medical care

B. everyone in France enjoys free medical care

C. it is a country with the Health Service

D. it is a very rich country in Europe

56. What is the problem in the Health Service?

A. Money is not enough to employ more medical workers.

B. There are not enough well-treated doctors.

C. People can get more preventive treatment.

D. Doctors and nurses are not working hard.

57. Why do many people go and see the doctors even when they really don’t need to?

A. To keep himself even more healthy.

B. To receive treatment free of charge.

C. To take back some expensive medicine.

D. To get necessary protective treatment.

58. What can we infer from the last paragraph?

A. The Health Service is quite successful so far.

B. People should not go to the doctors unless necessary.

C. There is much to improve the Health Service.

D. The rich should be allowed to pay for the treatment.

Britain and other nations should be well on with the building of huge industrial complexes for the recycling of wastes with fifteen years. The word rubbish could lose its meaning because everything that goes into the dumps would be made into something useful. Even the most dangerous and unpleasant wastes would provide energy if nothing else.

The latest project is to take a city of around half a million inhabitants (居民) and discover exactly what raw materials go into and what go out. The aim is to find out how much of these raw materials could be provided if a plant for recycling waste was built just outside the city. This plant would recycle not only metal such as steel, lead and copper, but also paper and rubber as well.

Another new project is being set up to discover the best way of sorting and separating the rubbish. When this project is completed, the rubbish will be processed like this: First, it will pass through sharp metal bars which will tear open the plastic bags in which rubbish is usually packed; then it will pass through a powerful fan to separate the lightest elements from the heavy solids; after that rollers will break up everything that can be broken. Finally, the rubbish will pass under magnets (磁铁), which will remove the bits of iron and steel; the rubber and plastic will then be sorted out in the final stage.

The first full-scale (彻底的) giant recycling plants are perhaps fifteen years away. Indeed, with the growing cost of transporting rubbish to more distant dumps, some big cities will be forced to build their own recycling plants before long.

63. The phrase “be well on with…” (Para. 1) most probably means _______.

A. have completed what was started

B. get ready to start

C. put an end to

D. have achieved a great deal in

64. What is NOT mentioned as a part of the recycling process described in paragraph three?

A. Sharpening metal bars.

B. Sorting out small pieces of metal.

C. Breaking up whatever is breakable.

D. Separating lightest elements from the heavy ones.

65. What’s the main reason for big cities to build their own recycling plants?

A. To get raw materials locally.

B. To deal with wastes in a better way.

C. To get iron and steel from those plants.

D. To protect the environment from pollution.

66. The first full-scale huge recycling plants ______.

A.will be built fifteen years later

B. began to operate fifteen years ago

C. will probably be in operation in fifteen years

D. will probably take less than fifteen years to build

With your workload growing, you may be telling yourself a vacation is one luxury you can’t afford. But the truth is that you can’t afford not to take one. A vacation allows you the opportunity to recharge your physical and emotional batteries, disconnect from everyday concerns and return to work

rested and refreshed. Some facts have proved employees are more productive after a vacation than before one. Here are some tips for you to plan your vacation to make sure that your time away from the office is worry free.

Time is right. A Robert Half survey shows that July and August are the most favorable months for employees to take a break because these months offer ideal beach weather and many businesses slow down during this time. When planning your vacation, remember to take into account (考虑) any activity that your department will be focused on during that time. For instance, if a big task is planned for the summer, you may consider postponing your trip until the fall.

Ask others for assistance. Ask trusted colleagues to handle your projects while you’re away. Your supervisor can help you determine who is the most qualified for a particular task.

Let your contacts know. Give colleagues and customers you frequently work with a few weeks’notice before you start off. This will give them enough time to plan for your absence.

Conduct a technical review. Before you leave, make sure there is plenty of room in your e-mail inbox so you don’t exceed (超越) your storage limit while you’re out of the office, which might prevent you from sending messages when you return. Also make sure passwords won’t expire (期满) while you are away.

In short, taking vacation is necessary and beneficial for your job. But you must plan your vacation properly in order to be work free and worry free on holiday.
