Los Angeles is home to two big NBA clubs: the Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers. While the Lakers are more talked about as title contenders (冠军争夺者) because of superstar player Kobe Bryant, the Clippers are perhaps more exciting to watch – mainly thanks to the crazy slam dunks (扣篮) of Blake Griffin.

Before Griffin's game, people

always ask, "how many revolutions

will he make?", "how high will he

leap?" and "how difficult will his

moves be?"

On April 7, Griffin scored a

leading 24 points, which helped the

Clippers beat the Lakers 109-95 to

win their first Pacific Division title.

Griffin, 24, first established himself

in the league after he won the 2011 Slam Dunk Contest. He soared (飞跃) over a car and scored a powerful dunk - "a perfect way to show off his combination of athleticism and Hollywood talent," commented The Associated Press.

It came as no surprise. Griffin grew up watching and re-watching every dunk contest on videotape, studying the event's development.

It wasn't long before many of Griffin's high school mates were asking for his autograph.

Young Griffin scored big and won stardom but today he also works for a charity organization known as Dunking for Dollars. He contributes $100 to fight against childhood obesity (肥胖症) for every dunk that he makes.

Griffin likes to throw down crowd-pleasing dunks, but he also wants to preserve his body for battles to come. According to Arash Markazi , reporter with ESPN, the goal for the Clippers is "no longer simply beating the Lakers on national television". although they did do so three times this season.

"We didn't come into this season 'Oh, it would be great if we could win'... We expected it. It's something to be proud of" said Griffin. "These are the games you really get hyped (炒作)for, but now we know the importance of winning games like this and also the importance of winning games down the stretch(一段时问) and in the playoffs." And their goal, like that of the Lakers, is to win a championship in June. writes Markazi.

Restaurateur Mike Anderson says he isn't anti-children. He just felt adults needed a break from dining out with kids. That led to his "no customers under 18" policy at a new sushi restaurant in Del Ray.

Anderson already owns four family-friendly restaurants. and visiting his child-packed Mango Mike's gave him the idea for a new restaurant that would ban kids. "There must be 50 kids in that bar. It's in chaos," he said of the Caribbean-themed restaurant. "We ran it by some parents that had kids ,and I would say eight out of 10 thought it was a great idea."

Since The Sushi Bar opened a week ago, the restaurant's policy appears to be paying off - it's

enjoying a packed house every night. Many major chains make every effort to cater to families. Such as Darden Restaurants' Red Lobster or Chipotle Mexican Grill. which both offer kids menus.

"I understand why they would do that. It's not that big of a deal," said one mother of three who was turned away form The sushi Bar ,But not everyone is so understanding .Some people even compared the policy to apartheid(种族隔离制度)on a Patch forum.“I won't be eating there and I'm not going to go to Pork Barrel or Holy Cow frequently any longer," one writer posted, referring to the owners' other restaurants "lt's ironic(讽刺的) how happy they were to take my money for kids meals at Pork Barrel but now my money isn't good enough for fish."

Yet as anyone with children who pays up for a babysitter knows, it's sometimes a relief to eat out at a place that's kid-free. At least one other restaurant has put a ban on children. a Pittsburgh-area restaurant that prohibited kids under 6 in 2011.

Is it legal? Probably. The federal Civil Rights Act doesn't prohibit discrimination based on someone's being a child - or acting like one.

56. Why did Mike Anderson open The Sushi Bar'?

B. The Sushi Bar is well received by many parents

C. The Sushi Bar is more popular than many major chains

D. Red Lobster and Chipotle Mexican Grill are both kid-free restaurants

59. What does Paragraph 4 mainly tell us?

A. People respond differently to The Sushi Bar.

New findings show that musical training affects the structure and function of different brain areas ,how those areas communicate during the creation of music, and how the brain interprets and combines sensory(感官) information. The findings were presented at Neuroscience 2013, the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience and the world's largest source of emerging news

about brain science and health. These views suggest potential new roles for musical training including training plasticity (可塑性) in the brain. offering an alternative tool in education, and treating a range of learning disabilities.

Today's new findings show that long-term high level musical training has a broader effect. Researchers found that musicians have a better ability to combine sensory information from hearing, touch, and sight. The age at which musical training begins influenced brain structure and its function. Beginning training before the age of seven has the greatest effect.

Even older adults who took music lessons as children but haven't actively played an instrument in decades have a faster brain response to a speech sound than those who never played an instrument, according to a study appearing November 6 in the Journal of Neuroscience. The finding suggests early musical training has a lasting, positive effect on how the brain deals with sound.

"Playing a musical instrument is a multi-sensory and motive experience that creates emotions and movements-from finger tapping to dancing - and engages pleasure and reward systems in the brain. It has the potential to affect brain function and structure when done over a long period of time," said Gottfried Schlaug. MD, PhD, of Harvard Medical School. press conference speaker. also an expert on music.

"As today's findings show. musical training brings about new processes within the brain, at different stages of life. and with a range of effects on creativity, cognition(认知), and learning," he added.

D. offer an alternative tool in education

62. Why does the author mention "Even older adults ... a speech sound." in Paragraph 3?

A. To suggest how new roles for musical training work.

B. To prove early musical training affects the function of the brain.

C. To explain how the brain interprets sensory information.

D. To show how the brain areas communicate in musical training.

63. Which of the following best describes the function of early musical training?

A. Difficult but interesting.

B. Painful but effective.

C. Lasting and positive.

D. Important and necessary.

Six-year-old Ethan was a smart, active boy who had been. until very recently. easy to get along with. But lately, Ethan has changed greatly, being rude to others. His mom, Fiona, was working hard to figure out what was bothering Ethan, and talking to him about what it means to play well with others. But in the meantime .she got the sense that the other moms were blaming her for Ethan's bad behavior. She felt embarrassed-but she couldn't really fault them. Who else. she thought, could possibly be responsible?

We've long held a tendency to blame parents for how their children behave and develop. Though we most often fault mothers more than fathers, the idea is the same. lf________, our children will turn out okay. lf we're bad parents, well, they won't. Though research has proven that childhood development owes itself to many inf1uences, we can't seem to help but assign blame to us-and it has created a generation of parents who judge themselves, and each other, by how their children do.

But to what extent are children really reflections of us ?To some degree, they are, certainly. But not to the fullest degree we often assume.

Once kids reach school age they are away from us many hours a day. We have less control over the things. People and behaviors will have a great effect on them. Of course, it's always important to take note of, and work to prevent the bad effect, but being away from parents is a good thing. It gives kids room to grow and explore in new ways. We will still be the most influential people in our children's lives. and there is no doubt that they'll pick up some of our ideas, habits, prejudices, and talents. But they don 't have to be-shouldn't be--our mirror image. 66. For what purpose does the author mention the example of Ethan?(no more than 10 words)
