Abstract:The Basofil fiber is a new type of high- temperature fiber.Its Limiting Oxygen Index(LOI)value reaches 32.It does not melt.drop down or smolder when it contacts fire.The fiber is condensed from melamine and formaldehyde into a cross.1inked with methylene.ether and methylene bridge bond.This thesis discusses the change of fiber structure and performance after the acid treatment. CLC number:TQ 171.77 1.1A Document code:A Article ID:1672—5220(2007)01—0123—05 ntroduction As far as the chemical structure is concerned,the elements and molecule structure of Basofi1 fiber are similar to those in the melamine resino,zj.Basofil fibers are originally co-polymerized to the hydroxyl—methyl compounds with melamine and formaldehyde,and then the compounds are condensed into 3 dimensional retieular structure cross..1inked with methy1..ether and methylene bridge bond.M/F is 1/2 with a little amount of additives. The macromolecules of Basofil fiber contain no active groups as primary amine and hydroxyl-methyl etc.And there are no free formaldehyde remained on the fiber.The aggregation structure of Basofil fiber exists in an irregular reticular cross-link.The longitudinal of Basofil fiber is fl very smooth surface;the cross section of the fiber is elliptica1.The broken section appears crack as the effect of force action.This phenomenon indicates the fragility of dynamic performance of Basofil fiber. As the structure of Basofil fiber is similar to that of the melamine resin,it has the same characters of other melamine-based resins, including high-temperature resistance,fire retardancy,lower inflammation,etc. Therefore it can provide high level protection ability under the actions of heat and inflammation for human bodies or objects against the hurt of heat.Basofil fiber,first introduced in the mid一1 990 for use in fire for commercial aircraft seating,has become most widely known for its application in fireman’s protective apparel .Exhibiting outstanding flame resistance and thermal protection,the fabrics have won international acceptance in the fire service for superior protection and comfort. Received date:2005—12—06 Generally speaking,the functional requirements for the protective fabrics are miscellaneous.For example,as the protective clothes of firemen or other special type of work,they should have the protection features of anti-convective heat and svarks,strong tensile strength and tear strength.antistaticfeaturesotherthallthefeaturesofheat resistance and fire retardancy.Usually,fabric made from the single kind of fiber cannot n1eet the requirements of these features.We usually use some kinds of fibers blended to mark the protective fabric.Therefore,the wet processing of dyeing is also miscellaneous for the"Basofil fiber. The effects of acid treatment on the chemical characteriStics of the Basofil fiber mainly reflect in the hydrolytic actions on the methylene.ether bond of the macromolecules of Basofil fibers.When the hydrolytic actions of the Basofil fiber take place,the loss of weight and release of free formaldehyde will happen. The present studies of"Basofil fibers mainly focus on the technology of fiber spinning and blended weaving.1he systematic studies on the change of fiber structure and performance after acid treatment especially the changes after the simulatedwet processingofSometechnology andconditions inthedyeingandfinishinghave not appearedin report yet.So this is full of theoretic and practi ̄l meanings. 

1 Experiment Materials and Method 1.1 Experiment material and instruments Basofil fiber:The fiber density is 1.4 g/cm。.The brute force of fiber is 2—4 cN/dex.The moisture regain of fiber is 5%(RH=65%.Temperature is 23℃).The fiber is supplied by the BASF Corporation from Germany. Chemicals:Hydrochloric acid,Acetic acid,etc.The chemicals are all of the analytical pure. Instruments:Type TG328A analytical balance(the product of Shanghai Instrument Factory of Balance),3#filtering crucible,type 72 1 spectral photometer(the product of The 3rd Analyzing Instrument Factory),thermostatic water bath and pH meter. 1.2 Experiment method 1.2.1 Pretreatment ofBasofil fiber Pre.treat the fiber to remove the impurities contained in the fibers.Procedure:The distilled water solution of
