Show students some pictures and learn the new word: power, wealth, fame. 1. Ask students some questions: (1) .What makes you happy? (2). Step2. While reading: T: Different people have different opinions about happiness. Today we will learn the passage called The shirt of a happy man and let’s see what is the happiness about. 1. Read the passage circle the characters in the passage.(Fast reading) Point out the answers.

Because he slept badly and didn’t feel like eating. His face was always pale as chalk. He often cried for no reason. 2) Who was called into the palace? The doctor, the minister , the banker and the singer. 3) Were they happy? What do they have ? No, they weren’t. They owned the wealth, fame, and power. 4) Can medicine help the king? Why or why not? No. because the doctor found nothing wrong with the king’s body. 5) Why does power not make the prime minister happy? He is always worried about losing his power. 6) Why does money not make the banker happy? He is always worried about losing his money. 7) Why does fame not make the singer happy? He is worried about being followed by others. He can not be free. 学生活动:Students read the passage and answer the questions. 设计意图:Improve reading skills.

Step3. After reading T: So the top general was sent to find a happy man in three days. Could he finish his work? Can you think of a possible ending? T: You did a good job. And here are some endings, read and can you tell me any of these is the right one. 1. Look at the possible endings to the story about the unhappy king. Do you think any of these is the right one? If so, which one? a. The general cannot find a happy person and the king remains unhappy forever. b. The general find a happy person with power and money. c. The general realizes he is a happy person and gives his shirt to the king to wear. d. The king suddenly becomes happy without the shirt of a happy person. 2. Listen to The Shirt of a Happy Man (Part Ⅱ) and check (√) the things that happened in the rest of the story. _____The general searched for three days and found a happy person. _____ The general could not find a happy person. __√_ The general saw a poor on the street. __√_ The poor man was a happy man. ___ __The poor man gave the general his shirt.
