Analysis of the students:

There are 45 students in this class and they are all boys. Most of the students are weak in English, and lack of interest in study. More than half of the student mid-exam scores are below 60. But some of them are very active in class. They need constant encouragement.

Analysis of the T e aching Material:

The teaching material is selected from Lesson 1 What Time Is It in Chapter 4 Time, Basic Module 1. It is about time. This is the first lesson of chapter 4. In this lesson, students will learn how to ask and answer questions about time.

Goals of teaching and learning

1. Goal of knowledge:To learn how to ask and answer questions about time.

2. Goal of ability:

⑴To improve the students’ ability of working in pairs.

(2) To develop the students’ ability of communication.

3. Goal of morality:to be helpful and cooperative

Key points:asking and expressing the time

Difficult points:To get students to talk about time correctly and skillfully.

Teaching procedures:

1. Show some pictures of the Big Ben, and ask students if they know where it is. What is that? What can the Big Ben tell us? What time is it?

2. Review the number and ask the students to read them together.

1. Explain how to ask and answer about time.

2. Conversation 1

a. Show and let students listen to the conversation 1 on page 64 in the text book. Ask them to pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation.

b. Ask students to read the conversation together.

c. Let students practice the conversation in pairs using the clocks in conversation 1.

d. Ask some pairs to perform the conversation according to the time given on the screen.

e. Let groups run a train to practice the conversation.

3. Show other ways to ask and answer questions about time.

a. Let students listen to the conversation 2and remind them of another way to ask the time:What time do you have?

b. Explain another ways of answering time.
