1. In the article under the title 9.11 Investigation Report Disclosed Inside Stories, how does the author incorporate the stylistic features that enable the press comments to voice his subjective opinions? Please study the Analysis for your reference, which follows the article in the textbook.

Answer:

In this news the author introduce some stories disclosed “9.11”investigation report. The structure of this news report is fairly clear. In the first place, the author serves the title as the topic sentence of the whole article, what’s more, it can arouse reader’s interest to continue in reading. Secondly, the author use the first paragraph to emphasize the topic of this news, which summarizes the main idea of the news report and provides scaffolding upon which the rest of the news can be based on. Finally, the author divided the article into 4 parts, furthermore, every part can be summarized in one word. These four nouns respectively are“embarrassment, rejoicing, indifference, anxiety”, and these 4 nouns represent 4 types of emotions. Personally speaking, the style of this news report is the

most acceptable for many readers.

2.According to the textbook, what kind of writing is the article entitled Laws Limit Options When A Student Is Mental Ill? Y ou are required to offer a convincing explanation as to how the author composes all the parts of his article by building the explanatory structure.

The writing of this article is Law.

This text report introduced laws in America that bound the behavior of universities when dealing with mentally ill students.

The whole passage can be divided into 3 parts, that ground, argument, and conclusion.

The argument is the first paragraph, in this paragraph,the author presented his point. And the grounds part begins with Paragraph2.It explicitly states the problem of many universities, but unclear. When in the paragraph4 to paragraph11, the writer tried to illustrate his point. From paragraph12, the writer focus to the related laws. This help readers have a panoramic view of the whole situation and better understanding of roles those laws play.

In the end, the author presented some altitude.

3. Study the article under the title Bridge Collapse in Minneapolis Kills At Least Seven together with the analysis that follows, and

then do your composition on the methodical manner that the author adopts to provide for his readers the objective description of the sudden bridge collapse.

Answer:

The title of this is in active voice starting with bridge collapse, with the accident itself functioning as the subject. In the paragraph 1 the author gives us the background of this accident: where and when it happened and what may have caused it. He provides us death and injury toll in the second paragraph and refers to the response of the government. Generally speaking, paragraph 1-4 give us a general introduction of this accident. Paragraph 5-15 describe it and provide recounts by witnesses. In paragraph 5 of the description phrase witness narration occupies large space. Apart from describing television images in the twelfth paragraph, paragraph 8-15 quote 4 witnesses: Leah R. Fulin, Janet Stately, Courtney Johnson and Berndt Toivonen. They offer us reliable information and present a whole picture of this accident.

And the last part gives us the possible reasons: ‘very busy bridge’,
