mean you should review all your corrected test papers and your class notes (21)____ ____

Tom, a reporter friend of ours, passed the large street windows of the New York Public
Library. He noticed a man on the other side of the window (23)________ (read) that day's
newspaper. With delight Tom saw that the paper was open to the very page for which he had
written a big article.
The reporter stopped, with his eyes (24)_______ (fix) on the man. Would the man read
deeply into the article? To the bottom of the page? It was one of those rare, unexpected moments,
of which a writer dreams. The writer's nose got closer to the glass. The page wasn't turned: Good,
the reader was interested. Our friend stayed there a bit longer to learn the answer (25) ________
the important question:
Would the reader turn to the page (26)________ the story was continued?
Two minutes passed. Four minutes. Nothing. The man must be a very slow reader indeed.
The writer didn’t realize the reader had fallen asleep (27)_______ he stepped forward and saw the
reader’s closed eyes.

Science fiction in the 20th
century predicted many early versions of today’s technologies. If
you are a Star Trek fan, you’ll notice the gadgets (小装置) often look like modern technologies
like smartphones. But Neal Stephenson argues that sci-fi’s greatest contribution is to show how
technology interacts with social and (28)________ systems — what authors call “world-building”.
Denise Caruso, a science policy researcher at Carnegie Mellon University in the US, agrees.
In an interview with Smithsonian magazine, she said science fiction not only helps scientists think
about how the work they’re doing might eventually turn out,
it can also help them think about
(29)________.
For example, US writer Isaac Asimov’s 1950 book I, Robot is a collection of stories about
robots (30)________ with humans. In these stories, Asimov (31)________ readers to think about
moral (道德的) issues like whether (32)________ beings should enjoy legal rights and equal
social status with humans. He also discussed the dilemmas that could result from programming
robots with moral directives.
Upon Asimov’s death in 1992, the journal Computer Engineers praised him for
demonstrating “the enormous potential of information technology” and highlighting the
difficulties of (33)________ “reliable control over semi-autonomous machines.”
Participants in the Hieroglyph Project hope their audience may extend to not only scientists
and innovators, but also to politicians and (34)________ who can influence our society for
generations to come.
“If the government has to decide what to fund and what not to fund, they are going to get
their ideas (35)________ from science fiction… rather than in technical papers,” Arizona State
University roboticist and project participant Srikanth Saripalli told the BBC.
