Children of America are getting fatter every time. 13% of the children at the age of 6 to 11 are overweight.
When we look at children's lives today in the USA, we can see the origin of the problem--sports and foods. Young children like sports but they don't have enough around the start of high school. That's especially true for girls. Meanwhile, to make matters worse, schools are becoming much more interested in sports teams. So children are not able to get enough exercise just when they need it the most. There is also the food problem. Children get most of their calories(热量) at restaurants or parties or somewhere else away from home. They often drink too many cokes. Parents have a lot of fears about telling a child he needs to lose weight-- they are afraid it will push a child into an eating disorder. Some parents fear that pushing children to lose weight means their children will think they're not good enough, or not loved because of their weight. Parents need to come to terms with the fact that the family is very important to the children. The most useful program for children is called "family weight control". This is good news. Mom and Dad, even if they don't have weight problems, have to go through the same program as their children and learn how to get some exercise and how to eat healthily.
44. Why are American children getting fatter? The writer thinks__________
A. children drink too many cokes
B. schools are more interested in sports teams
C. children have less exercise and eat unhealthily
D. parents also have weight problem as their children
45. The writer wants to tell parents that________
A. children are afraid to lose weight when they have to
B. family members can help overweight children a lot
C. overweight children are not loved by people
D. girls don't like to exercise
46. The writer thinks if mother or father is on the same program as their children, ___.
A. their children will not eat better
B. parents will feel sorry about themselves
C. it will make the children eat much more
D. “family weight control” will be successful

Tom Brennan was working in a Philadelphia office building when he noticed a black bag. The bag contained a book.
This chance discovery ended a 12-day search by the Library Company of Philadelphia for a historical treasure--a 120-page diary kept 190 years ago by Deborah Logan, “A woman who knew everybody in her day,” James Green, the librarian told the magazine American Libraries.
Most of the diary is a record of big events in Philadelphia. It also includes a description of British soldiers burning Washington D.C. in the war of 1812. She describes President James Madison on horseback as “perfectly shaking with fear” during the troubled days. George Washington, she writes, mistook her for the wife of a French man, and praised her excellent English.
The adventure of the lost book began September 4 when Cory Luxmoore arrived from England to deliver(递送) the diary of his ancestor to the Library Company, which he and his wife considered to be the best home for the diary.
Green told American Libraries he had the diary in his possession (拥有) “about five minutes” when Luxmoore took it back because he had promised to show it to one other person. On returning to his hotel after showing the precious book to Green, Luxmoore was shocked to realize that he had left it in the taxi.
Without any delay, Green began calling every taxi company in the city, with no luck, “I’ve felt sick since then,” Luxmoore told reporters.
According to James Green, no one has yet learned how the diary came to the office building. Tom Brennan received a reward of $1,000, Philadelphia gained another treasure for its history, and Luxmoore told reporters, “It’s wonderful news. I’m on high”.
47. This article mainly tells about the story of _____.
A. a lost diary
B. Cory Luxmoore
C. the Library Company
D. Deborah Logan
48. From the text, we learn that the diary is now owned by _____.
A. Tom Brennan
B. an unknown person
C. a Philadelphia magazine
D. the Library Company of Philadelphia
49. Philadelphia is thought to be the best home for the diary because ______.
A. it was written in Philadelphia
B. it tells stories about Philadelphia
C. people in the city are interested in old things
D. the British and the Americans once fought in Philadelphia
50. What did Cory Luxmoore mean when he said “I’m on high”?

第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

How to Become More Confident
Confidence is something inside, which means you can get it whenever you want to just by thinking about the world in a different way. 51
Everyone feels nervous. Ask all famous actors, athletes or speakers and you will find they all still get nervous. The only difference is that they've got used to nervousness and have developed some confidence.
52 Now think about your friends and other people you see in the street. Most of them feel exactly the same way you do.
No one is better than you. Sure, someone may be better than you in a given topic, but that doesn’t mean they are better than you. 53 They are both fruit, but different. The apple has things it excels in (胜过)and the orange also has things it excels in. That doesn't make one better than the other.
54 Have you ever looked in the mirror and decided you were going to be confident? Have you ever made up your mind and said you would be confident just because you can? If not, try it out. You do not need any reason to feel confident. You only develop confidence by working on it. There are many ways to develop confidence, but the best way is to choose it.
You do not need to accept all of these suggestions. 55 The more of these you realize to be true, the easier you will be in developing confidence that will last.
A. It was confidence that made them successful.
B. The following are some facts you need to know.
C. All you need to be confident is to choose to be it.
D. But they all started out that way too and are still nervous!
E. Just like you cannot say an apple is better than an orange.
F. For example many people believe apples are better than oranges.
G. To develop confidence, just give your attention to one of them and test it out.

In order to arouse the students’ interest in English learning and enrich our school life, we held an English Handwriting Competition. Many students took an active part in the activity. However, some students who are poor at handwriting don’t want to improve their handwriting. The reasons are as follows: On one hand, they think that there is no need to waste time improving their handwriting because they can just use a computer. On the other hand, they believe that they are too busy with their studies to find time to practice. Besides, practicing handwriting is so difficult that they can’t make great pr ogress in a short time.
In my view, Students’ beautiful and neat handwriting is beneficial to themselves. What’s more, good handwriting is always appreciated by people, especially by teachers. Therefore, more emphasis should be placed on this aspect in future.
【高一英语听力文稿】
Text 1:
M: I’m going to visit my brother in Seattle. I told him to meet me at the airport at 5:00. See, we’ll reach there very soon.
W: Yes, in 20 minutes.
Text 2:
M: I really need your help on my chemistry paper.
W: OK, I’ll help you with the search, but after that you’re on your own.
Text 3:
M: Professor Goodwin, I wasn’t in class yesterday because I had a cold. Could you give me a make-up test? W: Of course. Come to my office at four o’clock, and we’ll do it then.
Text 4:
W: I’m think ing of starting my own tour company.
M: Tour company? But you can’t find your way to your own apartment!
Text 5:
M: Can you bill me later?
W: I’m sorry, I can’t. You’re a new patient, so the fee for the first examination is due now. You can pay in cash, by credit card or by check.
M: Well, OK then.
Text 6:
W: Someone’s just stolen my purse. I left it on this table while I went to the restroom … and when I came back, I saw this guy running out of the café. He was about 17 with short blond hair. I noticed he had a scar on his forehead.
M: OK, madam. I’ll call the police now. But I’m afraid we aren’t responsible for your loss although it took place here.
W: I know.
Text 7:
W: What about having a swimming pool, a dance studio, outdoor tennis courts, and …
M: Hold on a minute, you don’t need outdoor tennis courts. Only four people can use a tennis court. Wouldn’t it be better to have two all-weather soccer fields? More students can play.
W: OK, so let’s have the indoor courts for when the weather’s bad. I think there should be a children’s
pool as well as a swimming pool.
M: Well, I think a swimming pool will be enough. What do you think about having basketball courts? W: Yes, we definitely need basketball courts.
Text 8:
M: Hi, Kim. Why didn’t you come to Alex’s party?
W: What? But the party’s tonight, isn’t it?
M: Oh Kim! It was last night! Saturday, not Sunday!
W: I can’t believe I missed it! Oh well. How was it?
M: Well, I ate a lot. Alex’s mum made some great pizza. And we played some computer games. I took no interest in that. And the music was terrible. But the cake was amazing! It was actually two cakes, one on top of the other.
W: Wow! Did the party finish late?
M: I think so. I left at ten but Alex said most people didn’t leave until half past eleven.
W: Why did you leave early?
M: My parents couldn’t pick me up and I didn’t want to walk home. So I had to take the ten fifteen bus home.
Text 9:
W: Martin, we really must decide where we want to go this summ er. I’ve always wanted to visit France. Why don’t we drive through France the first week and then, down, into Italy for the second?
M: That’s a great idea. When we get to the bottom of Italy we could go on the ferry to one of the Greek islands.
W: But if we stay in the north of Italy, we could drive into Switzerland and see that for our third week. M: OK. Let’s go up into Switzerland and then we could drive back into Italy and continue driving down to southern Italy where we could catch the ferry to one of the Greek islands for our fourth week. I’d love to go to Rhodes.
W: Then from Rhodes, how about getting another ferry and spending our fifth week in Turkey? From there we could drive back up through ex-Yugoslavia, into France and then into England.
M: Befo re coming back into England there are Germany and Austria, too. But I don’t think we can see all these places in six weeks, can we?
W: No, not really. So let’s spend our last week on the west coast of England, driving around Cornwall. M: It all sounds wonderful.
Text 10
W: OK, everyone. Today’s presentation is by Nathan. Start when you’re ready, Nathan.
M: OK. Hello, everyone. Our presentation is called A smaller world and it’s about technology and cultural change. The talk focuses on technology that makes the world smaller. First of all, can you imagine life without cars and planes? Before the invention of these means of transport, people could only travel by train or boat, and they couldn’t travel very fast. Now, with cars and planes, we can travel farther and faster. Some people even live in one country and work in another because they can fly to work. Before we move onto the next type of technology, it is important to remember that planes and cars do have their disadvantages. They can be dangerous and they cause a lot of pollution, and this also changes the way we live.
OK. Second, communications technology, like television and the Internet, certainly makes the world smaller. We stay in our house or office, but we can see news and shows from all around the world. With the Internet, we can write and chat to people all over the world. But nowadays, people spend more time using the technology than they do meeting other people. We’re spending more and more of our time in our houses, talking to strangers in other countries, than we are with our friends and neighbors. My grandmother could name all the people in her street, but I don’t even know the names of my neighbors.
W: OK. Thank you, Nathan, that was great.。
