三、Background:

How Volcanoes Are Made

Most volcanoes are made where tectonic plates (构造板块)come together. These

plates move over each other, which causes magma(岩浆)to rise to the surface

through weak places in the crust (地壳).

Typhoon: a tropical storm in the region of the Indian or western Pacific oceans

Hurricane: a storm with a violent wind

Snowstorm:heavy fall of snow

Landslide:the sliding down of a mass of earth or rock from a mountain

Volcano:a mountain or hill having a crater through which lava, hot vapour, and gas are

erupted from the earth's crust

Tsunami:a long high sea wave caused by an earthquake

Earthquake:a sudden violent shaking of the ground, typically causing great destruction,

as a result of movements within the earth's crust or volcanic action

Flood:an overflowing of a large amount of water beyond its normal confines 2 Sandstorm:a strong wind carrying clouds of sand with it, especially in a desert
