【精讲点拨】
1.I'm entering a competition.
我正在报名参加一个比赛。
enter动词，意为"（使）参加；（使）报名，其同义词组为 take part in
。
enter 作动词，还可意为“进入” ，相当于 come/go into ，所以其后不再加 介词 into.
2.It'll help you improve your speaking.
它会帮助你提高口语水平。
help sb. （to） do sth. 意为“帮助某人做某事” ，同意短语是 help sb. with sth.
Daming helps （to） clean the house sometimes.
大明有时会帮忙打扫房子。
My friend Lingling often helps me with my English.
我的朋友玲玲经常帮我学 英语。
3. Have you ever won any prizes before?
你以前曾经得过奖吗？
（1） Have/has sb.ever+动词的过去分词 （+宾语）？意为"某人曾经 过吗？用于询
问某人过去的经历。 ever 是副词，意为“曾经；从来；在任 何时候”，用以加强语气。
例如： Have you ever travelled by ship? 你曾经乘船旅行过吗？
（ 2） before 副词，意为“以前；从前” 。
例如：I have n ever see n so many birds before .我以前从未见过这么多鸟。
4. But I can 't afford it.
但是我支付不起。
afford 动词，意为“ （有财力）买得起，付得起” 。其后常接名词、代词 或 to do
不定
式，但是不能接 V-ing 形式。
例如： Can you afford a new car ？你们买得起一辆新车吗？
afford to do sth.
负担得起做某事
例如： We can't afford to go to Beijing this summer. 今年夏天我们负担不 起去北
京。
5. I 've stopped trying now.
我现在已经不再尝试了。
stop doing sth.
意为“停止做某事”指停止正在做的事情。
stop to do sth.
意为“停下来去做某事” ，指停下正在做的事情，去做 另一件事
例如： Stop talking! The teacher is coming. 不要说话了！老师来了。
I 'm tired. I want to stop to have a rest.
我累了。 我想停下来休息一下。
6. That 'a pity.
真可惜。
pity 是名词，意为“可惜；遗憾” ，其前通常加不定冠词 a 例如： -I lost my wallet.
我把钱
包弄丢了。
-Oh, that'sa pity.
哎呀，真可惜。
