练习册作文范文 (一)On Stress

With the fast are pace of modern life, more and more people are living under great pressure. Some people are afraid of pressure. They think that the stresses and strains of work deprive them of joy and happiness. In their view, stress does harm to them both physically and mentally. That is why they prefer something less competitive and strenuous to something more demanding and challenging. Others argue that stress isn’t as bad as it often supposed to be. Unless it is overwhelming, a certain amount of stress is vital to provide motivation and stimulation. With out stress, you may slack off and idle away your time. It gives purpose and meaning to an otherwise meaningless, dull life. People under stress tend to bring their potential into full play and to realize their goals. In my opinion, we shouldn’t escape from stress but to face it as it is. What we can do is to adapt to the stress and to profit from it rather than to avoid it.

(二)Students’ Pursuit for Famous Brands

Nowadays many college students like to pursue famous brands. From clothes to mobile phones, even study articles like electronic dictionaries and pens, they are inclined to buy famous brands. Moreover, many students from poor families begin to follow this consumption trend as well. This phenomenon has aroused wide attention. The following reasons can account for college students’ preference for famous brands. Above all, in many college students’ eyes, a famous brand is a symbol of sophistication and taste. They expect others to admire their high class and good taste. What’s more, in modern society, famous brands to some extent are equal to fashion, which has a great attraction to young college students. Besides, parents’ spoiling their children helps form their bad consumption habit. As far as I am concerned, it is irrational for college students to pursue famous brands. After all, most of famous brands are far beyond their consumption ability. Besides, it is not famous brands but a person’s noble character that really makes him high class. Therefore, college students should attach more importance to cultivating a good character rather than pursuing famous brands.

(三)My Ideal Friend.

A friend is better than wealth, but also is worse than poison in some cases. The above sentence contains two opposite statements and seems to be unreasonable. However, we can explain it as follows: the latter implies all evil friends who induce us to go astray and the former implies all good ones who lead us towards the right way. My ideal friends are of course the good ones whose goodness is shown below: he has no bad likings, such as smoking or drinking. He lives in frugality. He studies diligently so as not to waste his golden time. At home he honors his parents and loves his brothers; at school he venerates his teachers and sympathizes with his schoolmates. He treats those truly who are true to him. He never speaks of others nor boasts of his won merits. In a word, all his characters are better than mine. I can follow him as a model. By his precept I am persuaded to go the right way. By his warnings I am aware of the danger of doing a wrong action. With his help I am free from all difficulties. Indeed, if I have such person as my friend, I shall never fear any difficulties, and I shall never know the existence of the word "failure".

(四)On Punctuality

To be or not to be punctual is a habit. We often fail to appreciate the influence of habit in our life. Habit is working for or against us every minute of the day. It has much to do with our future. So when we are young, we should try to be punctual every time and never be late, for the habit is much easier to acquire in youth than when we are older. Punctuality is an important constituent of good character. A person who is always on time for his appointments shows real consideration for others. A person who is always late shows selfishness and thoughtlessness, and he is not a person that most people want for a friend. A few minutes’ delay may not be a serious matter, but it may have bad results. Getting up ten minutes later than usual may upset the plan of the day. Calling on a friend five minutes later than the appointed time may cause him some unexpected trouble. One delay after another makes a man unable to exert himself. It also proves him to be untrustworthy. Since punctuality is a good habit and a nice virtue, we should pay much attention to it and make much effort to cultivate this good habit so that we may have a strong sense of punctuality and do whatever we are supposed to do on time.
