Abstract
Cross-bordermergersandacquisitions(M&As)havegainedinpopularityoverthelastdecade.However,researchonthistypeofdiversificationstrategyhasnotkeptpacewiththistrend.Whilethereisconsiderableresearchinthearea,itisunfortunatelyfragmented,leavinggapsthatneedtobeaddressed.Herein,weexaminethetheoreticalperspectivesandresearchfindingsoncross-borderM&Asfromthreeperspectives:cross-borderM&Asasa(1)modeofentryinaforeignmarket,(2)dynamiclearningprocessfromaforeignculture,and(3)value-creatingstrategy.Currentempiricalresearchonthistopicisalsotabulatedandgroupedbytheoreticalstreamtoindicatemajorfindings.Mostimportantly,weidentifygapsintheliteratureandhighlightfiveimportantresearchissuesthatprovidedirectionsforfutureresearch.D2004ElsevierInc.Allrightsreserved.
