A Survey of Online Shopping

As we all know, shopping online has been widely accepted by most people as an effective shopping method. However, is online shopping popular among college students? What do they think of it? What are their favorite shopping sites on the Internet? These questions will be addressed through a brief survey of online shopping, which includes the frequency, reasons, advantages, as well as the disadvantages of online shopping.

The questionnaire was written by our classmates and funded by Professor Liu. It was distributed through our classmates and the respondents were some junior students in the school of foreign studies(both boys and girls included). The purpose of the questionnaire was to access attitudes and beliefs about shopping online, as well as to gather quantitative information. Of 200 questionnaires distributed 183, or approximately 91.5 percent, were returned.

Among the 183 respondents, only four students said they had never bought anything on the Internet. That is to say, most of the college students have the experience of shopping online. Also, a majority of respondents, indicated

that they would shop online once or more every week. The result of the questionnaire showed to us that online shopping had gained a great popularity among college students.

So, in comparison to go shopping in real stores or departments, why did so many college students prefer online shopping? According to the survey, there are two main reasons. On the one hand, it is more convenient. Since universities in china are sometimes far away from the downtown, it will be quite inconvenient if you want to go to those department stores in the city centre. What’s more, you are likely to walk a long way or change a number of stores in order to look for a beautiful coat. Shopping online, however, can solve all these problems. By surfing the Internet and clicking the mouse, everything is settled. So, in order to spend several hours on the way, why not give yourself an easy and pleasant shopping journey? On the other hand, things on the Internet prove to be cheaper than those in stores. We can buy things directly from the original factories, the prices of which are usually lower than those in real stores.

During the process of survey, problems of online shopping

are also found. Many students indicated that they had been cheated by some sellers on the Internet, because they couldn’t see the real goods when deciding whether to buy. College students agree that shopping online has the disadvantages of lacking the quality insurance and terrible after-sale services and so on. One student told us her real experience. She bought a T-shirt on , since the pictures of the model looked rather beautiful in that T-shirt, and its price was quite lower than that in the real stores. However, when she got the goods from the express company, she was very disappointed and angry, since the color was much darker than the pictures on the webpage, and the quality was terrible.

As to the solution to these problems, we provide several tips to the buyers. Firstly, try to look for the net stores whose evaluation is high. Secondly, make your own decisions with the help of those comments from other buyers who once bought this product. Thirdly, balance both the price and the quality.
