-Firstly, let me give some message about Ningbo for your: Ningbo is a coastal port city which is the world’s fourth largest port nearby China East Sea.

with population more than 7 million. And there is subtropical monsoon climate with four distinctive seasons: in summer, the average temperatures reach to 33 degree and in winter the average temperature above 5 degree.

-And our destination ---Xikou is a famous town in Ningbo, there are famous for it’s “three treasures”---the juicy peach, big taro and layers steamed bread.

-The former residence of Chiang Kai-shek located in the west of Xikou town. A beautiful scenery here and Chiang Kai-shek spent his childhood here. Well, you may ask: who is Chiang Kai-shek? Let me do a brief introduction: Chiang Kai-shek is an Chinese military and political figure, between 1928-1975, he is the president of the republic of China. In most Chinese mind, he is a dictator, a deadly enemy of our Chairman Mao Zedong, but he is really do some good things for his hometown -Xikou.

-Ok, now please follow me and take a look at one by one here.

-When we see a splendid gate tower, it means we have reach to the east portal of the ancient Xikou town. The gate tower is symbol of the town named Wuling Gate. Ok, after we go through the gate tower, please take a look at my left side, the top of the small hill named Wuling Hill, when we climb the top, we will reach to the first station---Wen Chang villa. In 1927, after Chiang Kai-shek and Soong may-ling got married, the building was build to be their private villa and library.

-Soong may-ling, the first lady of the republic of China, she also is a great figure such as a diplomatist and artist，She is the first Chinese to make a speech in U.S. Congress Who was on the cover of Time Magazine. In their bedroom, according to the piano, gramophone and Soong’s paintings, we really could feel the breath of art in here.

-Be careful the downstairs, when we cross a narrow steps, we reach to the second station-little western-style house. House is the former residence of Chiang Ching-kuo and his Belarusian wife. The house is situated to the east of Wen Chang-villa against the Wuling hill and facing the Shanxi River. Good site!

Chiang Ching-kuo is the son of Chiang Kai-shek, in earlier period, Chiang Ching-kuo left China to Soviet Union for study, and there he met his wife named Fina. After more than decade, Chiang and Fina return back to Xikou town, and then they often stayed here. The house is a three floors and the impress thing to me is the small dock in the front of the house. In ancient time, water transportation is more convenient than land transportation. So Chiang Ching-kuo and Chiang’s family can visit his grandmother in the upper of Shanxi River by taking a raft (bamboo boat).

-Come out of the house, we will pass through a stone-lined path, and then we can climb on the Wuling gate tower. Oh, beautiful scenery around the gate tower, in here we have another viewing point to see the ancient town.

-Go on, my guests. Now, we reach to the Wuling primary school. In 1927, according to the last will of his mother, Jiang Kai-shek collected 200,000 Yuan to sponsor the school here. The school is similar with French village education mode. At that time, the school is very advanced and unique.

-Now, out of the school and stroll through the main street to the western direction, we will see a archway. Here is the Chiang’s Ancestral Hall where people of Chiang clan hold clan activities such as ancestor worship, wedding ceremony, and funeral arrangements, adjustment to family tree. Chiang Kai-shek has given banquets, worshiped ancestor, reading family tree and watch performance in the hall with numerous anecdotes left here.

-Next station is the Fenggao House. Chiang Kai-shek’s first wife named Mao Fumei was lived here, and their son Chiang Ching-kuo also was born in here. In the Second World War, the beast of Japanese army bombed Xikou town savagely. Unfortunately, a bomb exploded at the house nearby, and a part of the house is fall down and killed Mao Fumei.

-Now, we move to the middle section of the main street of Xikou town. There is the Yutai salt shop. In 1871, Jiang Kai-shek’s Grandpa Chiang Yubiao started the shop and given the shop’s name. So from his grandpa, their family began to be in business and not be farmer. At that time, selling salt is a good income industry, From that we know Chiang’s family is middle class. The shop has three rooms with a kitchen in the backyard. The family members lived on the second floor, and the end of the corridor, the room is the birthplace of Chiang Kai-shek.
