Nitrogen(N)andphosphorus(P)arethetwomainfactorscausingwatereutrophication.Immobilizedmicro-organismshavebeenwidelystudiedinNandPremoval.However,theeffectsofvariousimmobilizingconditionsontheremovalefficiencyofNandPusingimmobilizedmicro-organismbeads(IMOBs)remainunclear.Polyvinylalcohol(PVA)andalginate,asthetwofrequentlyimmobilizing-usedmatrixes,wereusedforco-immobilizingPseudomonasstutzeriYHA-13andAlcaligenessp.ZGED-12.PVA,alginateandCaCl2contents,immobilizationtimeanddifferentwetbiomassratiosofP.stutzeritoAlcaligenessp.wereconductedtoelucidatetheirrolesinandinfluencesontheremovalefficiencyofNandPfromsyntheticwastewater.TheapplicationpotentialofIMOBswasestimatedaswell.ResultsshowedthatIMOBspreparedbycross-linkof4%PVAand2–3%alginatewith5%CaCl2andsaturatedboricacidsolutionfor10–15minarethebestonesinremovalofNandP.ThoughIMOBscontainingP.stutzeriand/orAlcaligenessp.werecapableofremovalofthetwonutrients,thehighestremovalefficiencywasobservedwhenthewetbiomassratioofP.stutzeritoAlcaligenessp.wasadjustedto2:2.Inaddition,theIMOBswereofgoodabilitytoremovechemicaloxygendemand(COD),NO−3,NO−2,NH+4-N,totalnitrogen(TN)andtotalphosphorus(TP)fromartificialwastewater.Ofwhich,micro-organismsimmobilizedinmatrixesweremainlyresponsibleforNO−3andTPremoval.Therefore,P.stutzeriYHA-13andAlcaligenessp.ZGED-12arereliablebioresourcestoremoveNandPfromwastewater.
