Chapter14 Shopping for Clothes

Ⅰ. Teaching aims and demands

1. Knowledge aims:

1) Get the students to talk about shopping for clothes and grasp the following

words and phrases: style, jacket, suit, shirt, jeans, sweater, skirt, customer,

try on, shop assistant, etc.

2) Enable the students to practice conversation and master some useful

expressions and the frequently-used sentences.

2. Ability aims:

1) Train and improve the students’ speaking ability.

2) Enable the students to make dialogues while shopping for clothes between

a customer and a shop assistant according to the different situations.

3. Moral aims:

1) Realize the important of holding a right view of consumption.

2) Let students concern about the professional ethic, work hard and get ready

for future jobs.

Ⅱ. Teaching important and difficult points

1. How to master the words, phrases and useful expressions about shopping for

clothes.

2. How to make situation dialogue and improve the students’ speaking ability.

3. How to direct the students to make a discussion and express their opinions

clearly.

Ⅲ. Teaching methods

1. Listening_and_answer activity or watching_and_perfermance activity to help

the students to practice and grasp the useful expressions.

2. Talking and discussing method to enable the students to express themselves

freely.

3. Individual, pair work or group work to make everyone active in class.

shopping for clothes? And why?

Ss: Yes. I want to buy and wear some beautiful clothes…/ No. nice clothes are

very expensive, but I haven’t got enough money…

T: Well, where and when do you usually buy clothes?

Ss: ……

center and some clothes stores in Shamaohe…>

T: One of my friends tells me that some nice clothes are on sale at the 50% off

(half price) in some clothes stores. How great the news is! Would you like to

go shopping for clothes with me? Let’s look for some styles we need.

< The teacher writes the new word “style” on the blackboard and let students

learn and recite.>

Step2: Warm-up

1. Presentation

T: Look! Here are some styles for spring, and they’re very cheap. Are you

interested in those clothes? Can you name these things in English?

Ss: … shirt, jacket; sweater; suit…

T: “suit”(Bb) can be used as noun and verb. For example, “ This suit (n.) suits (v.)

you very much!”

What about the following styles for summer?

Ss: …skirt, T-shirt, jeans, shoes (a pair of shoes) (Bb)…

2. Practice

T: It’s time to buy something. Actually, I am looking for a shirt, some jeans, a

sweater, a suit, a skirt and a jacket. Can you help me to put them into my

shopping bag? Please match the pictures with the right words. (P:57)

3. Production 3 T: In clothes shops, many customers (Bb) wear all kinds of clothes. What is

he/she wearing? What color is it? Who are able to describe them? For men, I’d

like ask some boys to describe it. For instance, he is wearing a green T-shirt

and a pair of white sport shoes. How about other customers?

S(boys): He is wearing…(a red sweater and a brown pants/ a blue suit/ a blue

shirt and jeans.)

T: As for women, girls, she is wearing……

S(girls): She is wearing… (a brown skirt and a pair of red high heels/ a yellow

T-shirt/a red sweater)

T: Well, what am I wearing, today? What are your classmates wearing, now?

Step3: Pair work to master the short dialogues

1. Presentation

T: My friend Cathy goes shopping for clothes and she finds clothes in a store are

on sale at the 50% off. She is so happy that she decides to buy a shirt. Who will

serve Cathy?

Ss: A shop assistant.

T: Exactly! What does he say?

Ss: Can I help you?

T: Yes. And Cathy will responses…?

Ss: I’m looking for a shirt.

2. Practice

T: Now, I’d like to ask some

pairs to practise it.
