In addition,making and eating Zongzi—a dumpling made of glutinous rice and wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves—is also a popular custom during this day. It can be made by many kinds of stuffing.

First,the most famous and great tradition is holding Dragon Boat races, which are held by fishermen's attempt to protect Qu Yuan's body against being attacked by fishes and other animals in the river by beating drums and rowing the dragon shaped boat.

The Dragon Boat Festival or "Duan Wu" or "Duan Yang" (meaning the "Upright Sun" or "Double Fifth" in Chinese) is one of the major Chinese festivals officially celebrated in China on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar.

The Dragon Boat Festival is held to memorilize the poet Qu Yuan of the Warring States Period. He commited suicide by drowning himself in the Miluo River because he was digusted by the corruption of the Chu government. The local people, knowing him to be a good man, decided to throw food into the river to feed the fishes to prevent them from eating Qu's body. They also sat on dragon boats, and tried to scare the fishes away by the thundering sound of drums aboard the boat and the fierce looking dragon-head in the front of the boat.
