A few years ago, I was given a wallet. It was small, with only a single pocket for cash, cards and coins. A zipper kept everything inside from falling out and a beautiful elephant was woven into its front panel. The wallet came to me all the way from Tanzania, gifted to me by a close friend. I fell in love with it immediately, it was the perfect size and came from a place I hoped to someday visit. I carried it everywhere;it was always precariously (不安全地)hanging out of one pocket or another. But the wallet was not only beautiful; it had a personality:it loved to run away? as I told my parents over and over again, only to receive eye rolls in return. "Fra nces, really? you've lost it again?” they would say every time I misplaced it.I seem to have a habit of losing things—jackets, water bottles, text books, even shoes. And every time I would report another loss, my parents would have a harder time believing it. "I swear,“ I would assure them, “it just ran away from me. " Unfortunately they never believed that, and so often I was left to search and pray for the items to come back to me.One day? I was on my way home from school with a couple of friends. We had taken subway using our transportation cards. Mine was inside my wallet. Once on the other side of the turnstile(旋转栅门),I put the elephant pouch back in my pocket and set off for the rock climbing gym, where we would spend a couple of hours before going home. When I got to the gym, I reached for my wallet only to find it wasn't there. This time I panicked.注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Bobby was getting cold sitting out in his backyard in the snow. Bobby didn't wear boots; or rather, he didn't own any. The thin sneakers he wore had a few holes in them and they did a poor job of keeping out the cold.Bobby had been in his backyard for about an hour already. Try as he might, he could not come up with an idea for his mother's Christmas gift. He shook his head as he thought, “This is useless. Even if I do come up with an idea, I don't have any money for a gift;Wiping tears from his eyes, Bobby started walking down to the street where the shops were. It wasn't easy being six without a father, especially when he needed a man to talk to.Bobby walked from shop to shop, looking into each decorated window. Everything seemed so beautiful but so out of reach. It was starting to get dark and Bobby reluctantly turned to walk home when suddenly his eyes caught the glimmer(微光)of the setting surfs rays reflecting on something on the roadside. He reached down and discovered a shiny dime(()(一角硬币).Never before has anyone felt as wealthy as Bobby did at that moment. As he held his newly- found treasure, warmth spread throughout his entire body and he walked into the first store. His excitement quickly turned cold when salesperson after salesperson told him that he could not buy anything with only a dime.He saw a flower shop and went inside to wait in line. When the shop owner asked if he could help him, Bobby presented the dime and asked if he could buy one flower for his mother's Christmas gift. The shop owner looked at Bobby and his ten — cent offering. Then he put his hand on Bobby's shoulder, saying, "You just wait here and I'll see what I can do for you."The sound of the door closing as the last customer left pulled Bobby back to reality. Lungs nearly bursting, I struggled to lift my head out of the water. Inch by inch, my tired body reached for the end of the pool. The extent of my swimming career was purely recreational, while the competitive swimmers nearby thought nothing of the seemingly simple task of a 500-meter swim test. Pushing myself to finish what I had started, I could only think: why not take the easy way out?Earlier that week, I had turned in my first job application at a local pool. Overqualified,I was hired on the spot. However, the tasks were boring: helping confused visitors and measuring the height of children before they went down the slide, those sorts of things. I was capable of more.So a swim test was required, establishing the mere fact that I was not completely helpless in a pool. Midway through, the manager administering the test remarked, “This looks re ally easy for you. Why aren't you applying to become a guard?"“The thought hadn't crossed my mind.""Well, lifeguarding demands more responsibility, strength and respect. Thus the position pays $2 more per hour. Your swimming skills are strong enough. All you need to do is complete a certification class.”Inside I was unsure of myself, but his words inspired me-You never know what you are capable of until you force yourself to do it.Soon I passed the swim test. All left was to practice and learn first aid, CPR(心肺复苏),and procedures for different land and water-based emergencies.Work started soon. A well- intentioned yet anxious feeling in me soon passed. Days, weeks, and months went by without incident; emergencies were rare. The skills and training I had so carefully studied and acquired seemed unnecessary.Today appeared to be another uneventful day. However, shortly after the other guards signaled to the children to exit the pool,I noticed one boy was still in the middle while the others had climbed up.注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
