高2009级阅读理解专题指导 1 阅 读 理 解 解 题 指 导 ----词 义 猜 测 题记：词义猜测题主要考查考生根据文章内容和所学知识推测词句意义的 能力，包括词义猜测和句意猜测，词义猜测又包括对单词和短语意义的猜测。近几年的高考题中一般有二至三个小题是直接考查词句意义的猜测。对词义的考查主要体现在对生词词义的推测或对熟词意义的推测或是在特定场合下对其的理解。

该题型常见的设题方式有： 1）The word “…” in paragraph … can best be replaced by … ….

2）The underlined word “…” most probably means …. 3）By saying “…”, the author means … 4）The expression “…” is closest to … 5）According to the passage, the phrase “…” suggests … 6）The underlined part “… …” (in Para. … ) means …..

掌握解题方法，提高解题命中率: 在完整的语篇中，词、词组、句子的意义总是受特定的情景或上下文限制，因此，考生可以根据上下文猜测，也可以利用所掌握句法、构词法和词汇等知识确定它们的意义。 Task 1 根据定义（definition）和例子猜测词义。如果生词有一个句子或段落来定义，那么理解这

个句子或段落本身就是推断词义。定义常用的谓语动词多为：be, mean, deal with, be considered, to be, be called, define, represent, refer to, signify 等。恰当的举例能够提

供猜测生词的重要线索。 Have you ever wondered why birds sing? Maybe you thought that they were just happy .After all ,you probably sing or whistle when you are happy. Some scientists believe that birds do sing some of the time just because they are happy .However ,they sing most of the time for a very different reason .Their singing is actually a warning to other birds to stay out of their territory. Do you know what a “territory” is ?A territory is an area that an animal ,usually the male, claims（声称）as its own .Only he and his family are welcome there .No other families of the same species（物种）are welcome .Your yard and house are your territory where only your family and friends are welcome . If a stranger should enter your territory and threaten you ,you might shout .Probably this would be enough to frighten him away. If so ,you have actually scared the stranger away without having to fight him .A bird does the same thing. But he expects an outsider almost any time ,especially at nesting（筑巢）season. So he is screaming all the time ,whether he can see an outsider or not .This screaming is what we call a bird’s song ,and it is usually enough to keep an outsider away. Birds sing loudest in the spring when they are trying to attract a mate and warn others not to enter the territory of theirs. You can see that birds have a language all their own .Most of it has to do with attracting mates and setting up territories. What is a bird’s “territory”?
