MechanicalDesign
Abstract:
Amachineisacombinationofmechanismsandothercomponentswhich
transforms,transmits.Examplesareengines,turbines,vehicles,hoists,printing
presses,washingmachines,andmoviecameras.Manyoftheprinciplesand
methodsofdesignthatapplytomachinesalsoapplytomanufacturedarticlesthat
arenottruemachines.Theterm"mechanicaldesign"isusedinabroadersense
than"machinedesign"toincludetheirdesign.themotionandstructuralaspects
andtheprovisionsforretentionandenclosureareconsiderationsinmechanical
design.Applicationsoccurinthefieldofmechanicalengineering,andinother
engineeringfieldsaswell,allofwhichrequiremechanicaldevices,suchas
switches,cams,valves,vessels,andmixers.
