一、课程基本情况

教 材:《生物工程专业英语》,姜彦、刘晓兰编著,哈尔滨工程大学出版社,2006年。

参考书:《生物工程、生物技术专业英语》,邬行彦、储炬、宫衡编著,化学工业出版社,1999年。

二、课程介绍

1.专业外语是一门专业任意选修课,通过对本课程的学习要求学生掌握科技英语常用的语法和句法,掌握生物工程专业常用英文字词,提高阅读理解能力,提高英文写作能力。为学生了解相关专业知识在国外的最新研究动态打下坚实的基础。

2.专业外语是学生完成了两年基础英语学习后的一门后续课程。本门课程是以英语作为手段了解生物工程专业的相知识,是其他专业课程的辅助课程。

3.本课程的目的是通过指导学生阅读与生物工程专业相关的英语书刊和文献,使他们进一步提高阅读和翻译英语科技资料及写作的能力,并能以英语为工具获取专业所需的信息。

三、课程内容、学时分配及教学基本要求

第一单元 amino acid(共4学时)

(一)教学内容:

第一节 Introduction of Amino Acid

知识要点:grasp the main idea (the discovery and the application of the amino acid)and

analyze the structure of some sentences.

第二节 Commercial Use of Amino Acids

知识要点:Master the key language points, Master the important glossary

教学重点:Master the professional glossary, gasp the key language points 教学难点:the professional words ,such as glutamicum, actinomycetes , streptomycetes

and so on,the key language points and grammatical structures in the text

(二)教学基本要求:

1.了解文章的主旨,理解文中关键句子的结构,熟练掌握文中的关键单词的用法。

2.了解氨基酸的发现过程及氨基酸的用途,初步掌握专业英语常用语法、句法,掌握常用的专业词汇,熟练掌握重点单词。

第二单元Enzyme(共6学时)

(一)教学内容:

第一节 Brief History of Enzymology

知识要点:Master the following professional glossary:enzymology,virus, alcoholic

beverage, detergent, protein, inhibitor, catalyst;grasp the main idea of the brief history

of enzymology.

第二节 Enzymes in Antiquity

知识要点:Master the following glossary:microorganism, fermentation, vinegar, enzymatic

conversion, acetic acid; grasp the main idea: The various application of the enzymes in

Antiquity

第三节 Early Enzylology

知识要点:Master the following professional glossary:demonstration,in vitro,ingredient

教学重点:Grasp the main idea and analyze the structure of the text

教学难点:The key language points and grammatical structures in the text

(二)教学基本要求:

1.了解文章的主旨,理解文中关键句子的结构,熟练掌握文中的关键单词的用法。

2.了解酶学的发生发展过程,初步掌握专业英语常用语法、句法,掌握关于酶学的常用的专业词汇,熟练掌握重点单词。

第三单元Applications of Cellulase Enzymes(共10学时)

(一)教学内容:

第一节 Stone washing Denim

知识要点:Master the following glossary:cellulase ,denim,pumice stones,abrade,indigo,forgiving;Grasp the main idea of the application of cellulose in stone washing

Denim.

第二节 Animal Feed

知识要点:Master the following glossary:glucanase, digestibility, barley, carbohydrate,

submerged fermentation;Grasp the main idea of the application of cellulose in animal feed

第三节 Fruit Juice and Beverage Processing

知识要点:Master the following professional glossary:beverage,slurry,filtration,centrifugation;Grasp the main idea of the application of cellulose in producing fruit

juice and beverage.

第四节 Alcohol Production

知识要点:Master the following glossary:alcohol, ethanol, enormous, sulfuric,

cellobiose;Grasp the main idea of the application of cellulose in alcohol production.

第五节 Textile Biopolishing

知识要点:Grasp the main idea of the application of cellulose in textile biopolishing

(二)教学基本要求:

1.了解文章的主旨,理解文中关键句子的结构,熟练掌握文中的关键单词的用法。

2.了解纤维素酶在纺织、动物饲料的生产、饮料及酒精生产中的应用,初步掌握专业英语常用语法、句法,掌握与纤维素酶相关的常用的专业词汇,熟练掌握重点单词。

第四单元Biotechnology and Biochemistry(共16学时)

(一)教学内容:

第一节 History of Biotechnology in Austria

知识要点:Master the following glossary:biotechnology, brewing, brewage, brewing

technology, polytechnic institute;Grasp the main idea of the history of biotechnology in

Austria.

第二节 The Vienna Process for Producing Baker’s Yeast

material;Understand why the bakers need the yeast of brewery in that time in Vienna.

第三节 Definition of Solid State Fermentation

第四节 Improvements in Distillery Practice
