Hamlet,which means that he has to make a choice between survival and
death.

scientist.The theme of his thesis is the progressive through of advocating

Writing techniques
The use of suspense and sudden turn:the author uses the theory of
defamiliarization ,suspense and turn to describe the life of gamblers
engaged in cock fighting and dog fighting .The describe perspective is
unique , the conception is novel, the aesthetic time is prolonged,and the
aesthetic effect is enhanced . The defamiliarization theory is cleverly used
in the novel, which makes the ugly appearance of gambling show the
original shape. The author reveals people’s gambling mentality,gambling’s bad result incisively and vividly.
Narrative skills
At he beginning of the novel , the narrator is the first person
“I”.Entrusted by his friends, he goes to visit Simon Wheeler , a
good-natured and talkative man, and inquires about the whereabouts of
Leonidas W.smiley, a friend of “my” friend. As readers read this , they
may think that the next step is to describe the story between “me” and
Simon Wheeler. Unexpectedly, as the novel progressed,“I” suddenly
disappeared,and the narrator of the story turned to Simon Weiler,who
regardless of the cold response of “I”,kept on telling “I”the anecdote of
gambler Jim smiley . “I”transferred the right of narration and became the
same story audience as the readers.

This article mainly explores the image of the old man from the
description of the old man’s own behavior and the contrast between the
words and deeds of the two waiters,and explores the theme of the tough
man spirit hidden under the surface of the nothingness.
