Unit Four What Makes the Weather?

一、教育目标：

能运用不同的时态（一般现在时，现在进行时，一般过去时，一般将来时）正确运用动词的适当形式完成句子。

1.情感态度：培养学生了解大自然，热爱大自然,热爱生活的情操。

2.学习策略：培养学生注意观察天气变化，懂得气象知识，并了解大自然对我们的学习，工作，生活密切相关。

3.文化目标：培养学生收听英语气象预报的习惯，并能用英语描述不同的天气情况。

Lesson Plan (1): Wonderland

I. Pre-task preparation:

1. Daily Talk (weather, school life, hobbies, families and so on.)

2. Ask two students to come to the front and talk about some topics.

II While-task procedure: 2 1. Learn the new words (shine, earth, comfortable, heat, seem, become, raindrop, a kind

of) while talking about the weather and other things.

2. T: Today is fine. The sun shines. Its warm .I feels comfortable. Why do we feel warm

in the sunshine? Because our earth always goes around the sun. and the sun gives us heat.

3. Learn some other new words by talking about something.

T: Sometimes the weather changes. It looks very dark. It begins to rain. Raindrops are

running down the ground„

4. Write the phonetic symbols of the new words on the board. Ask the students to read

them out.

5. Play the cassette: Wonderland. Students listen and follow with their books open.

6. Play the cassette again. Students listen and repeat.

7. Let the students ask questions about the new words.

8. Read the new words and the sentences in groups of four. Pay attention to the

pronunciation. Try to remember the meanings of the new words and sentences.

III. Post-task activities

1. Ask the students to remember the new words as soon as possible.

2. Divide the students into groups of four. Ask them to make sentences with the new words,

the more the better.

3. Ask individuals to say the sentences they have made.

Lesson Plan (2): Farmland

I. Pre-task preparation

Read the rhyme “Come for a Swim”

Dictate some new words we learned last lesson

II. While-task procedure

Review the sentences of the Wonderland.

Show the pictures of Farmland. Make dialogues with the students.

What’s the weather like tomorrow? (Next week, next month„)

Look at the sky; it will be rainy (hot, cool, cloudy, sunny, warm, dry, windy, foggy, cold„)

Play the cassette: Mini dialogue. Students listen and follow.

Play the cassette again. Students listen and repeat.

Ask them to read the dialogue.

Encourage them to make dialogues with their own words or new words

Divide the students into groups. Encourage them to talk about different weather. 3 III. Post-task activities

Ask the students to practice and act the Mini Dialogue in pairs.

For example: S1: What’s the weather like today?

S2: It’s fine. (Hot, cold, cool, warm,)

S1: What’s the weather like tomorrow?

S2: It will be rainy. (Snowy, cloudy, sunny, dry„)

Lesson Plan (3): Grand Theatre

I. Pre-task preparation.

Quick responses.

What’s the weather like today?

What was the weather like yesterday?

What’s the weather like tomorrow?

Is it cloudy today?

Was it sunny yesterday?

What do you think of the weather the day after tomorrow?

II. While- task procedure.

First show the students some questions on the board:

What makes the weather different?

What do you see in the sky?

Is the weather different or the same every day?

Why do we feel warm and comfortable when the sun shines?

How does the rain form?

How do the clouds form?

And how do raindrops form?

How do we get a sunny day?

What does the sun give us?

What makes rain?

Ask students to listen to the Grand Theatre twice and try to answer the questions on the

board. 4 Play the cassette: What makes the weather? Students listen and follow the tape.

Play the cassette again. Students listen and repeat.

Make the students understand some phrases: the changing weather has sty. To do with, grow

warm, feel comfortable, dry up a puddle, seem to disappear, turn into raindrops„

Then ask the students to answer the questions on the board.

Students try to retell the Grand Theatre.

III. Post- task activities.

Show students some pictures and photos about different weather.

Ask them to talk about them with their own words.

I. Pre-task preparation.

Ask and answer some questions about the text.

Ask and answer some questions about the climate.
