■ Success with English 3A Unit 14 Lesson 13

Hello, everyone. Today I’m very pleased to have an opportunity to talkabout some of my teaching ideas. My topic is an interview from a reporter Xu Li to Profession Tim Watts

on Radio Guangdong, talking about places he has visited and also mentioning about his

later visit to Foshan from Lesson 13 of Unit 4 in Success with English 3A.

My presentation is made up of four parts.

Part 1 My understanding of this lesson教材理解

Firstly the analysis of the teaching material: This lesson is a dialogue which is the

first Lesson of this unit and

thus it plays a very important part in the English teaching of this unit.

Secondly, the teaching aims is that

1) to create the relaxing and interesting atmosphere for Ss (students)to

have a first touch to the present perfect tense.

2) And to improve their reading and speaking ability;

3) To introduce the topic about the interesting man Professor Tim Watts

and the activity he has taken part at.

4) Also encourage and facilitate the students to make an interview with

present perfect tense after making a survey in pairs.

Thirdly, the Teaching objectives(by the end of the lesson, the Ss will be able to)

1. Knowledge objective:

learn the new words : professor, glad, pottery, statue…

Understand the main idea of the dialogue

usage of present perfect tense: “ Have you ever been to…” and its answers.

2. Ability objective:

Make a summary about what Professor Tim has done during the visit in China.

Finish different task after listening or reading.

And make an interview with present perfect tense.

3. Affect:

encourage students to share interest and opinion

understand that it’s great fun and useful to share their experiences by interviewing. 精品文档

4. Cultural Awareness:

Ss learn foreign friends has great interest on Chinese artificial art.

5. Teaching Focus:

1, How to understand the dialogue better.

2, The usage of present perfect tense

6. Difficult points:

1. summarize what Professor Tim has done and his visit

2. the difference between past tense and present perfect tense.

Part 2 My teaching theories, methods and aids

Before dealing with this lesson, I’ll do my best to carry out the following theories: Make

the Ss

the real masters in class while the teacher himself acts as directorandfacilitator;

Combine the language structures with the language functions; Encourage students to

use the present perfect tense to make interview.

Teaching aids:

I have designed the following steps to train their ability of listening, reading ,speaking,

and writing, especially reading and speaking ability.

Step 1 Greetings-------Greet the whole class as usual.

Step 2. Leading in

1. Free talk about traveling:

The May Day is coming!!! 利用五一假日旅游话题活跃课堂!

a) Do you like traveling? Which city do you like to visit most during the May Day?

And why? a modern city? Very new? a good place to go shopping?

Purpose--------Relate to their life and to create relaxing atmosphere.

2. Guessing game------the cities i went last year.猜测游戏

a) The Ss give their answers, after this the teacher show pictures of cities in China like

Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen …to activate Ss ‘experiences and interest)

Purpose------Review the past tense 简单复习过去时 and recall the different feature

of the cities.

b), Arouse the students’ interest to listen to the interview about Professor Tim’s

traveling: He likes visiting cities in China. And Why?

Purpose----------Activate their schema and build the information gap.

Step 3. Listening and preparing to intensive reading(book closed)

a), Listen to the interview and ask the Ss to answer questions on the screen

1. Where is Professor Tim Watts now?

2. Which city is he going to visit?

Purpose-----Bring in new subject:

an interview on Professor Tim Watts’visit in China.

Step 4. Intensive reading

Read the passage carefully again and answer some detailed questions on the screen.

1. Is it his first visit in Guangzhou?

2. Why did he decide to visit Guangzhou this time?

3. What is he looking forward to see in Foshan?

4. What kind of pottery he’d love to find?

Method: Read the text individually, use question—and—answer activity.

Purpose------Further understand the text (Train further reading ability) to catch the key information of the text.
