任务型阅读(共10小题,每小题1分;满分10分)

请认真阅读下面短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填上一个最恰当的单词。

Growing vegetables for fun

Farmers might think the idea of growing food for fun sounds strange. But there are some people who do it all the time.

They grow some vegetables because their natural color or shape is pleasing to see. They grow others because scientists have developed new colors or different sizes for traditional vegetables.

One example is the bell pepper(胡椒). Seed companies sell seeds for several different kinds of bell peppers. One pepper is a weak yellow color when it begins to grow. Then its color changes to white. As it grows, it changes color two more times—to orange, then red.

Another unusual plant is known as the yard-long bean or snake bean. It grows up to one meter in length. It is an important part of the food supply in areas of Asia. American farmers like it because it is different, yet tastes very much like the green beans they traditionally grow. Each bean has from ten to twenty seeds. The outside or pod can be eaten. Some of the very long beans are green outside but have black –and –white or red seeds.

Gourds (葫芦) are plants that people like to grow because of the many different shapes. They also have many uses. Some round gourds are dried, painted and made into containers. Others have long necks and big bodies. These are dried, cut and made into containers to pour drinking water.

Another kind of gourd is used to make sponges(海绵). When it is fully grown, it is removed from the vine and permitted to dry for a few weeks. Then it is placed in water for a few hours. The outer shell is then removed. The gourd is placed in the sun to dry. When it is fully dry, it is cut into pieces for sponges. They have a rough surface. They can be used to clean away dead skin cells, which makes them a popular skin-product.

P a s s a g e2任务型阅读(共10小题,每小题1分;满分10分)

请认真阅读下面短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填上一个最恰当的单词。

Attitude is an internal state that influences the choices of personal action made by the individual. Some researchers consider that attitudes come from differences between beliefs and ideas; others believe that attitudes come from emotional states. Here, we focus on the effects of attitudes upon behavior, that is, upon the choices of action made by the individual.

The kinds of actions taken by human beings are obviously influenced greatly by attitudes. Whether one listens to classical music or rock, whether one obeys the speed limit while driving, whether one

encourages one’s husband or wife to express his or her own ideas—all are influenced by attitudes. These internal states are acquired throughout life from situations one is faced with in the home, in the streets, and in the school.

Of course, the course of action chosen by an individual in any situation will be largely determined by the specific facts of that situation. An individual who has a strong attitude of obeying laws may drive too fast when he is in a hurry and no police cars in sight. A child who has a strong attitude of honesty may steal a penny when she thinks no one will notice. But the internal state which remains unchanged over a period of time, and which makes the individual act regularly in a variety of situations, is what is meant by an attitude.

Attitudes are learned in a variety of ways. They can result from single incidents, as when an attitude toward individual’s experiences of success and pleasure, as when someone acquires a positive attitude toward doing crossword puzzles by being able to complete some of them. And frequently, they are learned by copying other people’s behavior, as when a child learns how to act toward foreigners by observing the actions of his parents. Regardless of these differences, there is something in common in the learning and modification of attitudes.

There are some very good things about open education. This way of teaching allows the students to develop their own interests in many subjects. Open education allows students to be responsible for their own education. Some students do badly in traditional classrooms. The open classroom may allow them to enjoy learning. Some students will be happier in an open education school. They will not have to worry about grades or rules.

But many students will not do well in an open classroom. For some students, there are too few rules. These students will do little in school. They will not make good use of open education. Because open education is so different from traditional education, these students may have a problem of getting used to making so many choices. For many students it is important to have some rules in the classroom. They worry about the rules even when there are no rules. Even a few rules will help this kind of students. The last point about open education is that some traditional teachers do not like it. Many teachers do not believe in open education. Teachers who want to have an open classroom may have many problems at their school.

You now know what open education is. Some of its good points and bad points have been explained. You may have your own opinion about open education. The writer thinks that open education is a good idea, but only in theory. In actual fact, it may not work very well in a real class or school. The writer believes that most students, but of course not all students, want some structure in their classes. They want and need to have some rules. In some cases, they must be made to study some subjects. Many students are pleased to find subjects they have to study interesting. They would not study those subjects if they did not have to.

任务型阅读(共10小题,每小题1分;满分10分)

请认真阅读下面短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填上一个最恰当的单词。

Don’t complain in the NBA

The NBA has a new rule this season. It’s called “zero tolerance”. NBA referees are not letting players complain too long or too loudly about a referee’s call. A player who does can be given a technical foul (犯

规). Two technical fouls, and the player is out of the game.

The players don’t like the new rule and want the NBA to change it. They think it’s only natural to get angry during a close, hard-fought game if a call goes against you.

But I like the “zero tolerance” rule and wish other sports would follow the NBA’s example. Wouldn’t it be more enjoyable if football, soccer and tennis players stopped arguing the calls and just played the game?

The biggest reason I like the new rule is that it sets a good example to younger players. When kids see stars such as Rasheed Wallace of the Detroit Pistons shouting at the referees and arguing every call, they think it’s part of the game. But shouting at referees and arguing calls should never be part of any kid’s games. Kids should be taught to forget about the referees’ calls and pay attention to improving their skills and play their best.

All players need to learn that you control only one thing in a game, and that’s your own performance. You can’t control what the other players or trainers do. And you certainly can’t control the calls the referees make.

Finally, everyone from NBA all-stars to 8-year-olds should remember that being a basketball referee is a hard job. The referee has to make dozens of sudden calls. No hesitation. No second chances. Not even the best referee gets every call right.

Maybe if the players, trainers and fans who shout at the referees had to wear a whistle and call a few

2.or/otherwise

3. driven/put

4. dislike/hate

5. going

6. stop/quit

3.同上。be out of the game=be driven/put out of the court

4.The players don’t like the new rule…画线部分可以转为dislike或hate。

5.原句:if a call goes against you…在there be句型中的主语后要用分词作后置定语,所以写

出going为正确。

6.Wouldn’t it be more enjoyable if football, soccer and tennis players stopped

arguing the calls and just played the game?此句为虚拟语气。而题中是“主将从现”的现在时态,因此stopped应改为stop。

7.it sets a good example to younger players.如用助动词强调就必须是: “does set”。

8.improve=polish up(提高、改进)

9.第五段说明球员只能学会控制自己的比赛,而无法控制其它---比如,别的球员、教练、尤其是裁

判的执法。

10.…everyone from NBA all-stars to 8-year-olds should remember that being a

basketball referee is a hard job.在该句中的remember意思为:bear/keep sth. in mind。

本题考查了动词与动词词组的转换。

任务型阅读(共10小题,每小题1分;满分10分)

请认真阅读下面短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填上一个最恰当的单词。

Happy birthday! Do birthday really make people happy? Of course they do.Birthday celebrate the day when we were born.Besides, that extra candle on the cake suggest another year of growth and maturity(成熟)—or so we hope.We all like to imagine that we are getting wiser and not just older. Most of us enjoy seeing the wonder of growth in others, as well. For instance, seeing our children develop and learn new things makes us feel proud. For Americans, like people in most cultures, growing up is a wonderful process. But growing old? That is a different story.

Growing old is not exactly for people in youth-oriented(以年轻人为中心)American culture. Most Americans like to look young, act young and feel young. As the old saying goes, “You’re young as you feel.” Older people joke about how many years young they are, rather than how many years old.People in some countries value the aged as a source of experience and wisdom. But Americans seem to favor those that are young, or at least “young at heart”.

Many older Americans find the “golden years”to be anything but golden.Economically, “senior citizens” often struggle just to get by.Retirement at the age of 65 brings a sharp decrease in personal income.Social security benefits usually cannot make up the difference.Older people may suffer from poor nutrition, medical care, and housing. Some even experience age discrimination(歧视).American sociologist Pat Moore once dressed up like an older person and wandered city streets. She was often treated rudely--even cheated and robbed. However, dressed as a young person, she received much more respect.

Unfortunately, the elderly population in America is increasing fast. Why? People are living longer.Fewer babies are being born. And middle-aged “baby boomers” are rapidly entering the group of the elderly.America may soon be a place where wrinkles(皱纹)are “in”.Marketing experts are ready to notice this growing group of consumer.

Because six out of every 10 accidental deaths happen to Chinese children who are playing, Shanghai Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical (SJJP), a US-based pharmaceutical giant, is working on a Safe Kids Program to prevent injuries and deaths.

Since the Safe Kids Worldwide was set up in 1987 by Johnson & Johnson in the US, it has contributed to a nearly 40 percent decline in the child death rate from accidental injuries there. Learning from the successful experience, SJJP began the Safe Kids Program in China in 1999.

A recent survey conducted by SJJP and Safe Kids Worldwide China indicates that more than half of the responding parents didn’t know how to help their children keep safe and that half of the parents didn’t know about their children’s motor skill development at different ages. The survey covered 3,359 Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou’s parents with children between infancy (幼年) and 14.

Additionally, more than 40 percent of the parents didn’t know how to help their children to prepare well for sports activities. For instance, they don’t know how to have their children warm up or realize the importance of a playground-check before sports activities.

To help correct the problems, SJJP and Safe Kids Worldwide China have been translating and editing safety education materials, sending them to parents free of charge, and delivering free lectures in kindergartens, schools and residential communities for the last 10 years.

Currently, a special team has been set up and traveling around 12 key cities of China to popularize child sports safety knowledge and offer free training for young parents.

Though SJJP refuses to say how much it has spent on the program, it says the number in terms of money, staff and technology, is large.

SJJP was founded by Johnson & Johnson in 1995 and specializes in manufacturing and development of non-prescription medicines (非处方药) and health care foods and products. So far, its investment has exceeded (超过) $41 million.

The year is 2094. It has been announced that a comet (彗星) is heading towards the Earth. Most of it will miss our planet, but two pieces will probably hit the southern half of the Earth.

On 17 July, a piece four kilometers wide enters the Earth’s atmosphere with a massive explosion. About half of the piece is destroyed, but the remaining part hits the South Atlantic at 200 times the speed of sound. The sea boils and a huge hole is made in the seabed. Huge waves are created and spread outwards from the hole. The wall of water, a kilometer high, rushes towards southern Africa at 800 kilometers an hour. Cities on the African coast are totally destroyed and millions of people are drowned.

Before the waves reach South America, the second piece of the comet lands in Argentina, Earthquakes and volcanoes are set off in the Andes Mountains. The shock waves move north into California and all around the Pacific Ocean. The cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco and Tokyo are completely destroyed by earthquakes. Millions of people in the southern half of the earth are already dead, but the north won’t escape for long. Because of the explosions, the sun is hidden by clouds of dust; temperatures around the world fall to almost zero. Crops are ruined. The sun won’t be seen again for many years. Wars break out as countries fight for food. A year later, no more than 10 million people remain alive.

Could it really happen? In fact, it has already happened more than once in the history of the Earth. The dinosaurs were on the Earth for over 160 million years. Then 65 million years ago they suddenly disappeared. Many scientists believe that the Earth was hit by a piece of object in space. The dinosaurs

Every year there is a Spring Festival in China. Usually it is held in January or February. Of all our festivals, the Spring Festival is the most important to us Chinese. So before it comes, everyone has to prepare things. Several days before the lunar new year, we spring-clean our houses and decorate (装饰) them. Brazil’s next super star

From Ronaldo and Ronaldinho to Kaka and Robinho, Brazil is never short of football stars. If you have ever wondered who could be the next big name, 18-year-old Alexandre Pato is a player to watch.

The teenage striker scored the only goal of the game on March 20 to help AC Milan beat Torino 1-0. The win ensured Milan can still maintain their push for a Champions League spot despite the absence of star playmaker Kaka.

Pato made his start in Serie A only in January and has scored seven goals for his club so far. He also helped Brazil’s national football team win the 2007 South American Youth Championship, which qualified the country for the football competition at the Beijing Olympic Games.

Pato is good at controlling football and moves intelligently. But most of all, he is quick. Looking at him play, it becomes evident why many people have connected him with a young Ronaldo. Yet Pato insists that the praise does not put him under pressure. Instead, he welcomes it. “I was happy to listen to people saying I was a great player. It makes me want to do my best.”

Pato started to play indoor football at the age of three. At only 11, he signed with the Brazilian

football club Internacional where he started sharing a house with 83 other teenagers. Much like him, they wanted to make a name for themselves in the club’s senior team.

Luckily, Pato was the one who quickly made his way to the senior team and landed in AC Milan at the end of 2007.

Was it easy for him to settle down in a totally different culture? Pato insists that he has settled in with no problems thanks largely to his compatriots (同胞) in the Italian league. “These are the players I played with on Playstation and watched on television,” he admitted. “My dream of playing with my idol Ronaldo has finally come true.”

请认真阅读下面短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填上一个最恰当的单词。

In addition to self-awareness, imagination, and conscience, it is the fourth quality — independent will — that really makes effective self-management possible. It is the ability to make decisions and choices and to act in agreement with them. It is the ability to act rather than to be acted upon, to actively carry out the program we have developed through the other three qualities.

The human will is an amazing thing. Time after time, it has overcome unbelievable difficulties. The Helen Kellers of this world give dramatic(给人深刻印象的) evidence to the value, the power of the independent will.

But as we examine this quality in the context of effective self-management, we realize it’s usually not the dramatic, the visible(可见的), the once-in-a-lifetime, up-by-the-bootstraps(自立自强的) effort that brings lasting success. This special ability comes from learning how to use this great quality in the decisions we make every day.

The degree to which we have developed our independent will in our everyday lives is measured by our personal honesty. Honesty is, fundamentally, the value we place on ourselves. It’s our ability to make and keep promises to ourselves, to “walk our talk.”

Effective management is putting first things first. While leadership decides what “first things” are, it is management that puts them first, day-by-day, moment-by-moment. Management is discipline (training to be self-controlled), carrying it out.

Discipline obtains from belief—belief in a set of values, belief in an overriding(最主要的) purpose, to a long-term or short term goal that must be carried out.

In other words, if you are an effective manager of yourself, your discipline comes from within; it is a function of your independent will. You are a follower of your own deep values and their source. And you have the will, the quality to control your feelings and moods rather than depend on others or have your

Passage 11

任务型阅读(共10小题,每小题1分;满分10分)

请认真阅读下面短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填上一个最恰当的单词。

Intense physical exercise is not the only way to better health. Studies show that walking several times a week can lower the risk of many diseases. They include heart disease, stroke, diabetes, bone loss,

arthritis (关节炎), and depression. Walking also can help you lose weight.

Fast walking is good for the heart. It lowers the blood pressure. It raises the amount of good cholesterol (胆固醇) in the blood. Researchers say walking can sharply reduce the risk of suffering a heart attack.

Studies have also shown that walking for 30 minutes a day can delay and possibly prevent the development of diabetes. People who are overweight have an especially high risk to develop this disease.

Walking strengthens the muscles and builds up the bones that they are attached to. Studies show that walking could decrease the risk of developing osteoporosis (骨质疏松症). Walking can also help ease the pain of arthritis in areas where bones are joined. This is because walking strengthens the muscles around the bones.

Experts say walking is one of the safest ways to exercise. There is a low risk of injuries. So it is good for people who are starting an exercise program for the first time and for older people.

A walking program is easy to start. You should wear loose clothes and good shoes. There are shoes that are designed especially for lots of walking.

How fast should you walk? For the best effect, doctors say you should walk fast enough to cause you to breathe hard. Yet you should still be able to talk. Let your arms move freely while you walk.

There are no rules to starting a walking program. You might walk short distances. Or you might walk up hills to strengthen your leg muscles. Health experts say you can gain the most from a walking program if you walk at about five kilometers an hour for 30 minutes a day. You should do this about five times a

Passage 12

任务型阅读(共10小题,每小题1分;满分10分)

请认真阅读下面短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填上一个最恰当的单词。

People who travel long distances will have to decide whether they would prefer to go by land, sea or air. Maybe nobody would say they enjoy sitting on a train for more than a few hours. The train will soon get crowded and dirty. During the day, sleep never lasts long. At night, when you really wish to go to sleep, you find you can hardly manage to do so. If you are lucky to get a sleeping seat, you spend half the night looking at the small blue light over your head, and when you finally arrive at the station, you are so tired that you don’t want to leave.

Long car journeys are even less pleasant. On motorways, you can, at least, travel fairly safely at high speed, but more often, the great part of the journey is spent on narrow, rough roads which are crowded with traffic.

When traveling by sea, you have a different experience. You can have a walk on the board, play games, meet interesting people and enjoy good food, of course, only when the sea is calm. If it is not, you are likely to get seasick, and you will find no journey can be worse than that. Even if you travel in good weather, sea journeys take a long time.

Traveling by air seems to be dangerous to some travelers and it also has the disadvantage of being the most expensive form of transport. But nothing can match it for speed and comfort. Traveling at a height of 30,000 feet, far above the clouds, and at over 500 miles an hour is an exciting experience. Traveling by air also offers you an unusual and breathtaking view of the world. You can effortlessly enjoy high mountains and deep valleys. The journey is so smooth that you will certainly arrive at your

destination fresh and energetic. You will not have to spend the next few days recovering from a long and

1. Means/ Ways

2. crowded

3. sleep

4. rough

5. weather

6. safe

7. expensive

8. comfort

9. view 10. fresh

1.文章主要介绍旅游方式,加上题中出现by train, by car等交通方式,所以应该写means或

ways。

2.…the train will soon get crowded and dirty. 答案明显。

3.During the day, sleep never lasts long. At night, when you really wish to go to

sleep, you find you can hardly manage to do so.可以分析出无论白天还是黑夜,都不可能睡好觉。Sleep 就是最佳答案了。

4.…the great part of the journey is spent on narrow, rough roads which are crowded

with traffic.乘车旅行交通拥挤、道路崎岖不平,所以用rough合适。

5.Even if you travel in good weather, sea journeys take a long time.本句表明坐船旅行一

般天气恶劣,因此答案可写weather。

6.Traveling by air seems to be dangerous to some travelers and it also has the

disadvantage of being the most expensive form of transport.有些旅客认为空中旅行似乎很不安全,而且很贵。dangerous=not safe。

7.同上。

8.But nothing can match it for speed and comfort.速度和舒适是空中旅游的优势。

9.…also offers you an unusual and breathtaking view of the world.答案很清楚。

10.The journey is so smooth that you will certainly arrive at your destination fresh and

energetic.飞机旅行舒适而快捷,因而乘客没有疲劳感是正常的。

Passage 13

任务型阅读(共10小题,每小题1分;满分10分)

请认真阅读下面短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填上一个最恰当的单词。

In a society such as the United states or Canada, which has many national, religious, and cultural differences, people highly value individualism—the differences among people. Teachers place a lot of importance on the qualities that make each student special. The educational systems in these countries show these values. Students do not memorize information. Instead, they work individually and find answers themselves. There is often discussion in the classroom. At an early age, students learn to form their own ideas and opinions.

In most Asian societies, by contrast, the people have the same language, history, and culture. Perhaps for this reason, the educational system in much of the Orient reflects society’s belief in group goals and purposed rather than individualism. Children in China, Japan, and Korea often work together and help one another on assignments. In the classroom, the teaching methods are often very formal. The teacher lectures, and the students listen. There is not much discussion. Instead, the students recite rules or information that they have memorized.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both of these systems of education. For example, one advantage to the system in Japan is that students there learn much more math and science than American students learn by the end of high school. They also study more hours each day and more days each year than North Americans do. The system is difficult, but it prepares students for a society that values discipline and self-control. There is, however, a disadvantage. Memorization is an important learning method in Japanese schools, yet many students say that after an exam, they forget much of the information that they have memorized.

The advantage of the educational system in North American, on the other hand, is that students learn to think for themselves. The system prepares them for a society that values creative ideas. There is, however, a disadvantage. When students graduate from high school, they haven’t memorized as many basic rules and facts as students in other countries have.

Some of the apps provide the latest information about areas hit by the virus, while others collect data on infected persons. The Chinese government is working with two of the country’s largest technology companies to keep track of the disease. The two, Alibaba Group and Tencent Holdings, created color-based systems that record the health of individuals and identify carriers of the coronavirus. In February, Alipay, a payment app operated by Alibaba, released a system that uses colored QR Codes to show the health of people in the city of Hangzhou. A QR code is a sign a smartphone can read with its camera. Once the sign is recognized, the phone takes the user directly to an internet link with information about a subject. After completing the questionnaire, users receive a mobile phone message. It includes a color-based QR Code that relates to the health situation they described. Users with a red code are told to quarantine themselves for 14 days and continue reporting their condition by using Alibaba’s DingTalk messaging app. Users with a yellow code are told to stay in quarantine for 7 days, while those with a green code can travel freely. Chinese state media said the Alibaba system would be deployed at train stations, along major roads and other travel checkpoints. They added that the system is also being used in some neighborhoods. People are asked to show QR Codes when entering their apartment buildings. Customers are asked to do the same before entering the local supermarket. Alipay said it was working with the government to expand the system nationwide. Tencent, which operates China’s popular messaging app WeChat, reported the launch of a similar QR Code-based tracking system. Tencent developed the system with help from China’s National Development and Reform Council, which is currently in use in the southern city of Shenzhen. Officials said they expected it to be deployed to other parts of Guangdong province soon. Even before the latest systems were announced, many Chinese were already using mapping and travel apps in an effort to avoid areas with coronavirus infections. One of the apps, developed by WeChat, uses official reports to identify places in the cities of Shenzhen and Guangzhou where coronavirus cases have been confirmed.
