An elder sister went to visit her younger sister in the countryside. The elder sister was married to a businessman in town and the younger sister to a poor farmer in the village. When the sisters drank tea together, the elder began to talk about the advantages of town life. She talked about how beautiful their dresses are, what good things they ate and drank, and how she went to the theater and other fun things.
The younger sister was angry when she heard what her sister said and in return laughed at the life of a businessman. “I would not change my way of life for yours,” she said. “Maybe we are poor, but at least we are not worried. You live in a better style than we do, but though you often earn more than you need, you seem to lose all you have.”
She continued, “As an old saying goes ‘Loss and gain are brothers.’ It often happens that people who are rich one day are begging for their bread the next. Our way is safe. Though a farmer's life is not rich, it is long.”
Pahom, the husband of the younger sister, heard the women's talking. “It is perfectly true,” he said. “Busy as we are from childhood farming the earth, we poor farmers have no time to let anything meaningless settle in our heads. Our only trouble is that we haven't got enough land. If I had plenty of land, I wouldn't be afraid of anything.”

I'm Linda Smith. Let me tell you my story.
My family and I love going to the beach. We live in Florida, and it feels like summer all year. We go the beach every weekend. I love to walk on the beach and swim in the water. But last August, something really scary happened.
It was a sunny day. My friend, her six-year-old cousin and I were swimming. Suddenly, I felt something on my right leg. I thought it was a little fish. But I was wrong. It was a shark(鲨鱼)! And I saw it was swimming near me.
I was very afraid and shouted to my friend.“Get out of the water! It's a shark!”She ran onto the beach towards our parents. I started running, too. But then I realized my friend's little cousin was still in the water.
I ran back, took her hand and turned to leave. At that time, I felt a great pain. I was really afraid. We ran to the beach and I was sent to a hospital at once.
In the hospital, I got 90 stitches(缝线) in my right leg. They are in the shape of
a shark bite(咬). The doctors thought the shark had bitten me twice because there was a smaller bite inside the big bite.
This has been one of the most unforgettable experiences in my life. I was badly hurt, but it hasn't changed how much I love going to the beach. What's more, for the first time, I knew how great I could be!
