【Learning procedures】

Step 1. Reading

Read the article “The rise of online news media” and finish the following tasks.

Task 1. Please read the first two paragraphs and fill in the table.

The past decades have witnessed the rapid development of online news media.

In the mid-1990s Newspapers began to publish digital editions on the Internet.

By the end of 1999

Many newspapers in China had set up their online news platforms.

Around the end of 1999 News websites with no print editions sprang up.

Then We entered the smartphone era.

Task 2. Please read the third paragraph and answer the following questions.

(1). What conclusion does the author draw from para.3?

Technology enables people to get news in various ways, making reading news more personal and

comprehensive than before. Online news media may keep rising due to its edge over others.

（2）How has online news media developed over time?

Where people get news has changed a lot over the past 15years. Online media has increased

significantly from 30% to over 90%, while print media has decreased dramatically from 70% to only

20%. Broadcast media has changed the least.

Step 2. Listening.

Task 1. Listen to the interview and fill in the blanks in Part B1 on page 9.

Task 2. Listen to the interview again and complete the notes in Part B2 on page 9. Step 3. Discussion.

Work in pairs to talk about online news media with the help of the questions and

expressions in part C on page 10.

Step 4. Writing.

Write an article about online news media. Use your ideas from part C and the information

in parts A and B to help you. When you write your article, you should pay attention to the

structure.

Structure:

➢ Introduction: give information on the current situation of online news media.

➢ Main body: state the advantages and disadvantage of online news media.

➢ Conclusion: predict the future of online news media.

Use expressions:

• Through the above analysis, I believe that the advantages/positive aspects outweigh the

disadvantages/negative ones.

• All in all, we can't live without.…… for the convenience it brings to us, but we should also be aware

of the negative effects it creates on the modern life.
