1.用于名词前，指听者或读者已知的事物或人，尤指已提到的或能被领会的事物或人
I just bought a new shirt and some new shoes. The shirt was pretty expensive, but the shoes weren't. 我刚买了一件新衬衫和几双新鞋；衬衫很贵，但鞋子不贵。
I'll pick you up at the station. 我会开车到车站接你。
2.用于某些名词前，表示泛指一类地方
Let's go to the movies（movie n.电影; 电影院; 电影业）this evening. 我们今晚去看电影吧。
I have to go to the bank and get some exchanges（exchange n.交换; 兑换v.兑换; 交换）. 我得去银行兑换些钱。

名词的考查要从可数还是不可数方面着手。

a/an的用法规则：以元音音素开头的单词前用an，以辅音音素开头的单词前用a。
