Nine for IX Film Discussion Guide: No LimitsKey Concepts:●Mental Toughness●Personality And Sport●Overconformity To The Sport Ethic●Sport Marketing And “Selling Sex”●Freediving●Extreme Sports Performance And Gender●Coach-Athlete Relationship●Coaching Ethics●Sport Subculture●Moral Implications Of Extreme Sport ParticipationDiscussion Questions:1.Discuss examples in the film where freedivers state that freediving is more about mentalcapacity, rather than physical skills. What aspects of mental toughness do free diversneed to succeed? Discuss if and how the mind can overcome physical limits of the body. What positive lessons can be learned from the mental toughness of extreme sportathletes?2.Alternatively, some scholars argue that extreme sport athletes like freedivers engage in aform of deviance called “the sport ethic.” Analyze freedivers using the concept of thesport ethic.3.In the film Tanya Streeter and Audrey Mestre we re characterized and “young and sexy”women rivals which was good for the sport and brought unprecedented visibility tofreediving. How did Streeter and Mestre benefit and how were they exploited? What role did the rivalry with Tanya Streeter have in the success, and the eventual death, of Audrey Mestre?4. On the filmmaker of No Limits, Allison Ellwood, states the most hauntingquestion for her in the making of the film was: If Pipin was so deeply in love with her, as he claimed in the book, why did he push her so hard to make such a dangerous dive forwhich his team was ill-prepared and under-financed? What are your thoughts on the role of Pipin Ferreras, Audrey’s husband, in her death? According to those interviewed for the film, what could have been done to manage risk and increase the likelihood of asuccessful dive?5.Before watching this film, had you ever heard of or seen freediving covered in the media?Freediving is one of the few sports where men and women compete by the exact same rules and gender differences in performance and world records are relatively small. Can you think of sports where the rules for participation are a) different and, b) the same for men and women? Can you think of other sports where the performance gap between men and women is narrow and sports where gender differences in performance are large?Which sports (gender similar or gender different) are most valued, popular, deemedlegitimate and covered by the media in US society? How might sport popularity berelated to gender and power?6.In the film, the ghost writer Linda Robertson of The Dive,Pipin Ferreras’ autobiography, said she found Ferreras “an unreliable narrator” because she didn’t believe half of what he said. What do you make of the fact Ferreras refused to be interviewed for the film and how do you reconcile his characterizations in the film?7.In free diving, as with many other sports, there are many husband-coach/wife-athleteduos, as evidenced in the film by Ferreras and Mestre, as well as Tanya and Paul Streeter. What might be the potential ethical issues and up- and downsides of having a husband-coach/wife-athlete relationship in high level competitive sports? How might a young female athlete be vulnerable with an older male coach within the coach-athleterelationship?8.For many extreme sports, the majority of participants are White males. Scholars arguethis makes inclusion for females and non-White males difficult. Based on who wasinterviewed for film and the participants you saw, does this hold true for freediving?9.What are the moral implications related to an extreme sport athlete risking their own life, while in course incurring cost and potential harm to others, such as families, rescueworkers, and society at large? What should the balance be between autonomy and doing what is best for others?10.Can you think of examples in other sports where the Key Concepts listed at the beginningof this guide are present?Additional Readings:Brymer, E., & Oades, L.G. (2009) Extreme Sports: A Positive Transformation in Courage and Humility. Journal of Humanistic Psychology, 49(1), 114-126.EXCERPT FROM READING: Extreme sports and extreme sports participants have been most commonly explored from a negative perspective, for example, the “need to takeunnecessary risks.” This study explored what can be learned from extreme sports about courage and humility—two positive psychology constructs.Brymer, E., & Schweitzer, R. This film will take you on a giantscreen adventure into the world of two freedivers and their unique relationship to the sea.Their goal: dive deepe r than anyone has ever gone before…on a single breath of air. For more than 10 years, world champion freedivers Pipin Ferreras and Umberto Pelizzarihave been vying for world records. Their passion is driven by a desire to overtake theother and also push their own physical limits to the extreme. An uncompromising love of the sea unites these two rivals, yet their different personalities and opposing divingphilosophies are what separate them. Pipin is the "no limits" man who wants to go deeper and deeper./watch?v=8x2Ewz7r9nQ4.Read the IAFD/McCoy Report on Audrey Mestre’s Death and discuss the evidence incontrast with your own personal theories of the events leading to Mestre’s death. 阳光大课间开展活动英语作文高三一模全文共5篇示例,供读者参考篇1The Sun is Shining, Let's Play!Yay, it's recess time! The best part of the school day. When that bell rings, we all jump up from our desks as quick as bunnies. Down the hallway and out the door, into the big playground. The sun is shining bright and warm today. It makes me so happy!Every kid at Pine Grove Elementary loves recess. It's our special time to take a break from all the hard work we do in class. Sitting still at our desks for so long can make our bodies feel antsy. We need to run and play and get our energy out! There's always lots of fun things to do at recess. My favorite is playing kickball out on the blacktop. I'm the fastest runner in my whole class, so I can almost always make it to base before getting pegged. "Safe!" I yell as I stomp on the chalked square. Take that, Charlie! You can't get me out. When I'm not playing kickball, I love shooting hoops on the basketball court. Swish! Nothing but net. I've been practicing my jump shot and now I can sink it almost every time. My friendEmily is pretty good too. We'll spend the whole recess period taking turns shooting baskets back and forth. Philosophy homework? What philosophy homework? That can wait until after I work on my fade away.If the kickball game is too crowded or the basketball hoops are taken, there's a big grassy field where we can run around freely. Sometimes we'll have races from one end to the other. Other times we'll play tag or hide-and-go-seek in the tree line along the edge. Getting grass stains on my jeans is just part of the fun!On days when it's too cold or rainy to play outside, we get to have indoor recess. Those days are just as much fun, we simply move the games into the cafeteria or gymnasium. Indoor kickball can get a little crazy with the ball smacking off the walls and kids diving onto the slick floor. But that just makes it more exciting! My favorite indoor recess activity is when Mr. Zelman, the PE teacher, brings out the Tumble-Trak and parachute toys. He sets up the Tumble-Trak in the middle of the gym with its puffy blue mats, and we can practice doing somersaults and handstands. Then he'll have half the class grab onto the big rainbow parachute while the other kids run underneath it. It's like a bouncy magic tent! After all that energetic playtime, I'm always feeling hungry when the recess period ends. I can't wait to tear into my lunchbox and gobble down my PB&J sandwich, yogurt, apple slices and cookies. Recess gives me a chance to work up a huge appetite! While we eat, my friends and I talk about all the fun games we played that day. Dominic tried doing a flip on theTumble-Trak and landed right on his bum. We all laughed so hard, orange juice came out of Jessica's nose! Marcus and I exchanged Pokémon cards during indoor recess, and I finally got the shiny Charizard I've been hunting for.I wish recess could last all day long. An entire day with no math lessons or spelling tests. Just running and playing and laughing under the warm sunshine. Even on the rainy days, indoor recess is still ten thousand times better than going to class. But unfortunately, that bell rings again way too soon. Time for recess to be over. We all groan and drag our feet, trying to prolong the fun for just a few more minutes. Eventually, though, we have to line up single-file and head back inside for our next lesson.Being a kid sure is tough sometimes! All that reading, writing and arithmetic can make a fella's head spin. That's why I cherish recess so much. It's a special break in the day just for us - a time to be free from all the hard work of school. With no adults watching over us or books to study, we can simply play and be kids.My parents are always saying that school days are the best days of our lives. As long as I've got recess period to look forward to each day, I'm inclined to agree! The sunshine, the games, the snacks – what could be better? So let's all go outside and play. Recess awaits!篇2The Big Sunny Recess DayYay, it was finally recess time! I love recess so much. Getting to run around and play outside is the best part of the school day. But today was going to be even more fun than a normal recess. Our teacher Mr. James told us last week that we were going to have a special Big Sunny Recess Day. He said there would be lots of fun games and activities set up for us on the playground and field. I could hardly wait! When the recess bell finally rang, we all cheered and raced out to the playground. There were already some high school volunteers setting everything up under Mr. James' directions. I saw jump ropes, hula hoops, balls, buckets, chalk for drawings, and even a huge parachute!Mr. James called us all over to explain the activities. "Okay boys and girls, welcome to our Big Sunny Recess Day! We have all sorts of fun things for you to do today. Over there are some jump ropes for jump roping contests. Who can jump the longest without messing up?""There's also a running race course mapped out with chalk if anyone wants to burn off some energy. And don't forget to try out the parachute game - that's always a favorite! Just grab onto the edges and shake it up and down to keep the ball floating.""We'll also have some friendly kickball, dodgeball, and freeze dance competitions going. There are hula hoops if you want to show off your swinging skills. And don't miss out on the chalk art corner to create some masterpieces!""Feel free to join in any games you'd like, and make sure to watch out for your friends. This recess is all about staying active and having fun in the nice sunny weather. Who's ready to play?" We all cheered again, so excited to get started.I decided to start off with the jump rope contest. My friend Lily and I grabbed a rope and started taking turns jumping. We chanted:"Strawberry shortcake, huckleberry pie, I can jump much higher than the blue sky!"Lily dropped the rope after only 25 jumps. But I was determined to beat my record of 50 jumps. I kept whirling the rope around and around, counting each jump."48...49...50...51!" Yes, a new record!Next, Lily and I joined the group playing freeze dance over by the radio Mr. James had set up. We boogied and twisted around while the music played. But when it stopped, we had to freeze like statues wherever we were!Lily made a really silly looking pose, and I couldn't help but laugh out loud. That's what got me put "out" for the round. No biggie, the dance party was just getting started! After a while, I noticed some kids playing kickball and decided to switch games. I love kickball because you get to run around a lot. Mr. James pitched the big red ball, and I kicked it way out into the field!I ran around all the bases, watching out for the ball coming back in. Made it to home plate safe for a home run! Woo-hoo! A few more kicks like that, and my team was winning. As I was catching my breath, I saw the huge parachute billow up into the air. All the kids on the edges shook it to keep a beach ball floating up on the air bursting from underneath. "Can I join, can I join?" I ran over and grabbed one of the free edges. We all had to work together, shaking at just the right times to send the ball up and down across the parachute's surface. It took some teamwork, but it was a blast to play with so many friends! Before we knew it, Mr. James was calling out that there were only 10 minutes left before we had to head back inside. Aw, man! Recess had flown by in what felt like no time at all.I decided to spend my last few minutes getting creative with the chalk art corner. I grabbed a couple pieces of colored chalk and got to work on the blacktop, Drawing streams of yellow sunshine rays across the top. Then I added a big smiling face, surrounded by blue skies and green grass. A colorful rainbow arced across one corner. Iwrote "The Best Recess Day!" in big bubble letters to remember the awesome time we all had. Finally, the end-of-recess bell rang. We all let out one big,"Aw......" but grudgingly started cleaning up the games. I grabbed a piece of chalk and added "Till next time!" under my colorful drawing. As we walked back inside, everyone was smiling,rosy-cheeked, and looked totally tuckered out from running around. What an amazing Big Sunny Recess Day!I heard some kids talking about their favorite parts already."That parachute game was the best!" "No way, kickball was way more fun.""I broke my jump rope record!"I'll never forget the great time we all had. Hopefully Mr. James lets us have another day like this again soon. Playing outside, staying active, and being with friends - that's what recesses were made for! Thanks, Big Sunny Recess Day!篇3Sunshine Big Break Was So Much Fun!Yay, it was Sunshine Big Break time at my school today! I love Sunshine Big Break because we get to go outside and playgames and do activities instead of having regular classes. It's the best day ever! This morning, the teachers gathered everyone in the playground after first period. We were all buzzing with excitement, wondering what kind of fun stuff we would get to do. The head teacher, Mr. Wang, stood up on the stage and explained what Sunshine Big Break was all about. He said it's a special day every month where we take a break from our usual lessons and do outdoor activities instead. The point is to get some sunshine, fresh air, exercise and have fun!First up was tug-of-war. They split us into two big teams and we had to pull on the rope as hard as we could to win. My team was the red team, and we had some really strong kids who pulled like crazy. But the blue team was strong too, and we went back and forth for a long time. Finally, the red team won by just a little bit! Everyone was sweating and out of breath, but we felt great after that intense workout.Next was three-legged racing. We had to get into pairs, tie one leg to our partner's leg, and race across the field that way. It was so funny seeing everyone hopping around together, trying not to fall over. Me and my best friend Lily were a team, and wepracticed a bit first to get our rhythm down. The race was quite challenging, but we managed to come in third place! After that was my favorite activity - painting! The teachers set up lots of big canvases and we could splatter and swirl paint all over them however we wanted. I love the feeling of squeezing the gloopy paint out of the bottles and watching the colors blend and flow. Me and a group of friends worked together on one huge canvas, creating an epic abstract masterpiece. We were covered in paint splatters by the end!For the next activity, they brought out skipping ropes and hula hoops. I'm really good at jumping rope, so I showed off my skills doing criss-crosses and double-unders. Lily is an expert hula-hooper though, and she could spin around multiple hoops at once! We cheered each other on and had a contest to see who could go the longest without messing up.When we got too hot from all that exercise, we took a break for popsicles! They hadογdIrren colors like purple, blue and green. I got a purple one and it was super sweet and delicious. A bunch of us sat in the shade licking our popsicles and chatting about how much fun we were having. After the popsicle break, they set up an inflatable obstacle course! It had a rock climbing wall, a tunnel to crawl through, obstacles to jump over, and a big slide at the end. We formed teams and raced against each other to see who could get through the fastest. It was tough work but I loved every second of bouncing and climbing around. My team came in second place. For the last activity of the day, they had music playing and it was time to dance! All the kids flooded the area and started grooving to the beats. We showed off our best moves - running man, flossing, moonwalking, you name it! Even some of the teachers joined in. We had a big dance party for about half an hour, going wild and crazy. What a perfect way to end Sunshine Big Break! When it was finally over, I was drenched in sweat and completely exhausted. But I had the biggest smile on my face. Sunshine Big Break was an absolute blast from start to finish. I loved getting to take a break from regular lessons and do so many awesome activities with my friends. We worked up a sweat, got some Vitamin D from the sunshine, and made so many fun memories. It's definitely one of my favorite days at school.I can't wait for next month's Sunshine Big Break! I'm hoping they'll have things like water balloons, relay races, or even a dunk tank. Whatever activities they plan, I know it's going to be anepic day full of movement, laughter and joy. School should have way more days like this!篇4The Sunshine Break is the Best!Yay, it's time for the Sunshine Break! That's my favorite part of the school day. The Sunshine Break is when we get to go outside and play games and do fun activities in the fresh air and sunshine for a whole hour. It's so awesome! Our teachers call it the "Sunshine Break" instead of "recess" because they want us to think about how good the warm sunshine feels on our faces and bodies after being cooped up inside the classroom. They remind us that getting outdoors and soaking up some rays is really healthy for our bodies and minds. The sunshine helps our bodies make vitamin D which makes our bones and teeth strong. And being out in the bright light helps our brains feel more awake and focused when we go back to our lessons.I always feel so refreshed and energized after the Sunshine Break. Sometimes if I'm feeling a little sleepy or grumpy before it starts, running around and playing hard in the sunshine for an hour totally cheers me up and wakes me up. My brain feelsclearer and I'm ready to work hard again. That's why I love the Sunshine Break so much! There are always lots of fun activities happening during the Sunshine Break that the teachers organize for us. My favorite is when they set up different stations around the playground with all sorts of games and challenges at each one. One station might have hula hoops for hula hoop contests. Another has jump ropes for seeing who can jump rope the longest without messing up. There's usually a running obstacle course too with things to crawl under, climb over, hop through. And they always have balls and frisbees for throwing and catching games.Sometimes they divide us into team for relay races and competitions where we have to work together, take turns, and cheer each other on. I love being on a team and winning points and treats for my team when we beat the other teams. We get so excited and scream and jump around like crazy! But the teachers remind us to be good sports and have fun even if we don't win.Other times during the Sunshine Break, we just have total free play time to run around wildly and play whatever games we want to make up on our own. Tag, pretend games, cartwheels, you name it! As long as we're being active and having fun, the teachers let us do whatever we want. Sometimes me and myfriends like to explore around the edges of the playground and look for cool bugs, rocks, or animal holes. One time we even saw a rabbit! In the winter when it's cold out, we still have the Sunshine Break but we bundle up in our coats, hats and mittens. The sunshine might not feel quite as warm, but it's so nice to get some fresh air after being stuck inside all morning. And we get red cheeks and bright noses from running around in the crisp air! Sometimes if there's snow, the teachers let us have gentle snowball fights or make snow angels. No matter what we're doing for the Sunshine Break, I look forward to it every single day. An hour of outdoor sunshine time feels like getting a delicious healthy treat right in the middle of the day. It re-charges my brain and body so I can work hard again in the afternoon. I'm so lucky my school schedules a full hour just to play outside in the sunshine every day. I bet lots of other kids' schools don't get such a long Sunshine Break! After we come inside from the Sunshine Break, we have a few minutes of quiet reading time to settle back down before our next lesson. As I'm catching my breath on the carpet, I can feel my skin still glowing warmly from soaking up all those rays of sunshine. I already can't wait for tomorrow's Sunshine Break!篇5Yay, It's Sunshine Break Time!Sunshine break is the best time of the day at my elementary school! When the bell rings for sunshine break, all the kids go crazy with excitement. We get to stop sitting at our desks and go outside to play and have fun for a whole hour! Sunshine break is awesome. My favorite thing to do during sunshine break is to play games with my friends on the playground. There are so many fun games we can play! Sometimes we play tag and run around chasing each other. Other times we decide to play freeze dance and bust out our craziest moves until the music stops. We even make up our own games sometimes, like zombie apocalypse where one person is the zombie trying to turn everyone else into zombies too. When we get tired from running around, we'll sit under the big oak tree and talk and tell jokes. Timmy always has the funniest jokes that make my stomach hurt from laughing so hard. Like last week he told us the one about the cow that jumped over the bacon...why did the cow jump over the bacon? Because cowscan't have pork! Get it? Pork comes from pigs, not cows! We all cracked up over that one. After we catch our breath from laughing, sometimes we'll play hand games like Miss Mary Mack or Down Down Baby. My best friend Ella is the queen of hand games and she teaches me all the clapping routines. I'm getting pretty good but she's a master! Other times we'll sing songs we learned in music class or make up silly new ones about our teachers or families. When I'm not playing games, I also love just running around the field during sunshine break and looking at all the beautiful nature. In the spring, the flowers start blooming with the prettiest pinks, purples, yellows, and whites. I inhale all the sweet floral smells as I zoom by. In the fall, the leaves turn bright oranges, reds, and golds before floating down from the trees. I love crunching through the piles of fallen leaves.Sometimes I'll even see little critters like squirrels, rabbits, or birds that come out during sunshine break. I have to be very quiet and still so I don't scare them away. Once I saw a robin collecting little twigs and leaves, probably to build a nest for her baby birds. Another time, I watched a fuzzy brown bunny nibbling on some clover under the big maple tree. Nature is just so fascinating to observe! And of course, no sunshine break would be complete without a snack from home. My mom always packs me an apple, banana, or granola bar to munch on during break time. The fresh fruits and veggies give me energy to keep running and playing. Sometimes my friends and I'll even trade snacks if one looks really good that day. I love trying new treats! But way too soon, the sunshine break always comes to an end. The teachers start ringing the bells to let us know it's time to line up and head back inside. No matter how much we groan and drag our feet, we have to go back to our classes. As I walk back inside, I'm always a little sweaty from working up a good play and my cheeks are rosy from the fresh air. I feel totally recharged and ready to learn again after running off all my excess energy.Sunshine break is definitely the highlight of my day at school.I look forward to it from the moment I wake up! Getting to take a break from sitting at my desk and go outside for an hour of activities, games, and fun with my friends is the best. I can get some exercise, spend time in nature, eat a healthy snack, and just be a kid. What could be better than that? I hope schools never get rid of sunshine break time because it's an extremely important part of the day for kids like me. We need time torecharge with activities and play before going back to hit the books. Three cheers for sunshine break!。

New Free Diving Record
Free diving, made famous by the film The Big Blue, has a new world record holder. A
young Turkish diver has broken her own record and dived to a depth of 105 meters
on one single breath. Yasemin Dalkilic managed to dive five meters deeper than her
previous best depth. The 22-year old overcame a painful burst eardrum to achieve
the world record.
