My Favorite Athlete: Liu Xiang
Hello everyone! My name is Xiaoming, and I'm a 10-year-old
student from Beijing. Today, I want to tell you about my favorite
athlete, Liu Xiang. He's a super cool guy who has made our
country proud with his amazing achievements in track and field!
Liu Xiang was born on July 13, 1983, in Shanghai, China.
From a very young age, he loved sports and was always running
around and playing games with his friends. His parents noticed
his talent for running and encouraged him to join the local
athletics team.
As Liu Xiang grew older, he started to train seriously in
hurdles, which is a running event where you have to jump over
small barriers called hurdles. He was really good at it and soon
became one of the best hurdlers in China.
In 2004, when Liu Xiang was just 21 years old, he competed
in the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. This was a huge deal because the Olympics is the biggest sports competition in the
world, and athletes from all over the globe participate in it.
Liu Xiang was incredible in Athens! He won the gold medal
in the 110-meter hurdles, which is a race where you have to run
110 meters while jumping over ten hurdles. He finished the race
in just 12.91 seconds, setting a new world record! Imagine
running that fast and jumping over hurdles at the same time –
it's mind-blowing!
When Liu Xiang won the gold medal, everyone in China was
so happy and proud of him. He became a national hero
overnight, and people all over the country celebrated his
achievement. I remember watching the race on TV with my
family, and we were all cheering for him like crazy!
After his success in Athens, Liu Xiang continued to dominate
the world of hurdles. He won many more medals and broke his
own world record several times. In 2008, he had the chance to
compete in the Olympic Games again, but this time, they were
held in Beijing, China!
The whole country was excited to have the Olympics in our
capital city, and Liu Xiang was expected to win another gold
medal for China. Unfortunately, during one of his races, he got
injured and had to withdraw from the competition. It was a really sad moment, but Liu Xiang handled it with grace and
professionalism.
Even though he didn't win a medal in Beijing, Liu Xiang will
always be remembered as one of the greatest hurdlers in history.
He has won numerous championships and has inspired millions
of people, including me, to pursue their dreams and never give
up.
Liu Xiang is not just an amazing athlete, but he's also a really
nice person. He's always humble and grateful for his success, and
he works hard to be a positive role model for young people like
me. He's involved in many charity projects and uses his fame to
help those in need.
One of the things I admire most about Liu Xiang is his
determination and resilience. Despite facing injuries and
setbacks throughout his career, he never gave up and always
found a way to come back stronger. He's a true fighter, and his
perseverance is something we can all learn from.
In conclusion, Liu Xiang is my favorite athlete because he's a
talented, hardworking, and inspiring person. He has brought so
much joy and pride to our country, and his achievements have
motivated me to work hard and chase my dreams, just like he did. Liu Xiang is a true legend, and I'm sure his legacy will continue to
inspire generations of athletes and sports fans for years to come.

My Favorite Athlete: Liu Xiang
Do you know who Liu Xiang is? He's my favorite athlete ever!
Liu Xiang is a really famous hurdler from China. A hurdler is
someone who runs super fast and jumps over hurdles, which are
like little barriers on a track. It's really hard and takes a lot of
practice, but Liu Xiang made it look easy!
Liu Xiang was born in Shanghai in 1983. That's a long time
ago! When he was little, he actually didn't like running at first.
Can you believe that? The fastest hurdler in the world didn't like
running as a kid! But his gym teacher saw that he was really
athletic and encouraged him to join the school's track and field
team. I'm so glad that teacher did that, or else we might have
never gotten to see Liu Xiang's amazing talents!
As soon as Liu Xiang started training, everyone could see he
was a natural. He was incredibly fast and could jump so high over
the hurdles. It was like he was born to do it! Liu worked really
hard though, training for hours and hours every day after school.
