According to a new study, your favourite ice cream taste can tell all kinds of things, from theage when you'll find love to your taste in films. In the study, which was conducted for ice cream company Breyers by OnePoll, 2,000 Americans were divided into three parts, by whether they prefer chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry ice cream. The study found that fans of strawberry ice cream tend to find love at the youngest age, at the age of 24. This was followed by vanilla fans, who fall in love around the age of 25, and chocolate fans, who tend to find love at the age of 26.The study also found that strawberry ice cream lovers are more likely to listen to jazz and enjoy science fiction films. They also tend to enjoy washing clothes. Vanilla fans, on the other hand, don't like washing clothes- although they're happy to wash the dishes. They also tend to stay up late, love dogs, and are introverts (内向的人). Vanilla ice cream eaters are quite different from those who prefer chocolate. Chocolate ice cream lovers are more likely to be extroverts(外向的人). They also love watching romantic films and prefer to listen to pop and rock music._____ According to a study conducted by Baskin-Robbins and Juliet A Boghossian, those who like ice cream cones(蛋筒)"are people who lead with their heart". Sugar cone eaters "are funny and enjoy the life of the party", while those who prefer waffle cones to holding their spoons of ice cream "tend to be the host of the party, and are usually caregivers ". Those who prefer their ice cream without the cone also "are dependable, family-centred and hard-working". ()1. Your Favourite Ice Cream Taste Says Nothing About YouBImagine this: There's an apple and a piece of cake on a table. Which one would you like? The delicious cake or the healthy apple? A bestseller, Willpower: Rediscovering Our Greatest Strength, suggests that willpower is the ability to make decisions that are better for us in the long term, rather than in the short term. Here is a famous experiment(实验)in the book The Marshmallow Test. In 1972, Professor Walter Mischel tested the willpower of 600 four-year-olds to six-year-olds. In the experiment, each child was left alone in a room for fifteen minutes with a marshmallow(棉花软糖)on a table in front of them. They were given two choices: They could eat it right away or, if they waited fifteen minutes, they'd be given a second one(and then they could eat both). So, what did the kids do? Well, as you can imagine, 70% ate the first marshmallow within the fifteen minutes. But the other 30% showed willpower-they controlled themselves and waited for the second marshmallow. But then Mischel discovered something really interesting. Twenty years later, he got in touch with the children, who, by then, were in their early twenties. And he found that those wh. had shown strong willpower were getting better marks at university and were more popular.Willpower is like a muscle(肌肉), and the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets. So, if you do daily "self-control exercises". such as making your bed or brushing your teeth, you'll improve your overall willpower. And daily willpower exercises will help you with those bigger goals, such as studying for an exam or training for a marathon.Be careful though. Just like any muscle. your "willpower muscle" can get tired. If you have to do lots of things that require willpower. take a break or give yourself a treat. In that way, you’ll build up your willpower again. And one last thing, the writer mentions people who learn foreign languages usually have a lot of willpower. So, congratulations!()5. How many children got two marshmallows in the Marshmallow Test in 1972?A.180.B.240.C.420.D.600.()6.In Paragraphs 2 & 3, the famous experiment explains ______.A. more kids have strong willpowerB. will power influences people’s lives greatlyC. how people train children's willpowerD. marshmallows can help improve willpower()7. The writer probably agrees that _____.A. all the language learners have strong willpowerB. willpower can't be improved by doing some daily thingsC. young kids don't need to practise willpower like grown-upsD. people with strong willpower can achieve their goals more easily()8. According to the passage, people who _____ might have strong willpower.A. do regular piano practice every dayB. give up morning running halfwayC. eat as much junk food as they likeD. usually get up late on the cold morningCHave you ever thought about why you are the way you are? And what does your personality connect with? Recent research has showed that the order in which we are born in our family plays a very important role in forming personality. The only childrenOnly children are people who are proactive: they are grown-up early. They are energetic and organized and they love facts and details. On the other hand, they hate to be punished and they can seem far too sensitive to other people. They can become angry if they don't get their own way.The eldest childBeing the only child, the eldest enjoys all their parents’ attention. However, new parents usually expect to see their child do well. And the eldest child generally tries to meet these expectations. As a result, the eldest children are usually polite and traditional, and they are often ambitious(有野心的)and hard-working, and usually score higher marks on achievement tests. The problems come with the birth of another child. Suddenly the attention they're used to receiving becomes weaker. Then, they don't feel safe and will try to do all they can to make their parents happy. The second childThe second child has no experience of life without a brother or sister, so they never know how their brothers or sisters feel when they suddenly have to share the parents' attention. The second children are often more outgoing(外向的)but they can be un ambitious and they are often unsure what to do with their lives. They are always looking for ways to get attention. One of the most common ways to achieve this is by making people laugh and the second children are often the jokers of the family. Again, problems can appear when another baby arrives. Suddenly, the second child becomes the middle child and may lose a clear sense of where they are.The third childWith the birth of their third baby, parents will often feel this is their last chance to bring up achild. This means the youngest child, more often than not, is spoilt(溺爱)with attention and love. This can lead them to be very self-centred, believing that the world moves around them. They are always treated as the "baby" of the family so they don't do as well as they could do. They like doing things in unexpected ways, so they are also likely to be creative. They usually have good people skills. They are sociable and love pleasing others.()9. What influences people's personality a lot according to the passage?A. Birth place.B. Birth weight.C. Birth way.D. Birth order.()10. What does the underlined word "they" in Paragraph 4 refer to?A. The eldest children.B. The second children.C. The third children.D. The parents.()11. You can talk to friends who have traveled to the places, you can go and see a colour film about them, or you can read travel books.21·世纪*教育网It seems that there are three kinds of travel books. The first are those that give a personal, subjective(主观的) idea of travels which the writer has got himself. These books can be useful ifthe writers share their traveling experiences with others. The second kind are those books which give objective( 客观的) information of things to be done and seen. If a cultured person has written such a book about the facts of a place, then it is more useful. The third kind are those books which are called "a guide" to some place or other. If they are good, they will describe and explain the place in detail. Like the first kind, they can be interesting and exciting, but their main purpose is to help the reader plan his travel in the most practical way.Whatever kind of travel book you choose, you must make sure that the book does not describe everything as interesting, exciting or fantastic. You must also keep an open eye on its date of publication(出版) because travel is a very practical matter and many things change quickly in the 21st century.

People with human brains and artificial (人造的) bodies are everywhere. This is the future world shown in the film Alita: Battle Angel. US director James Cameron made the film. The movie came out in the Chinese mainland theaters on Feb 22.The story is based on Japanese manga artist YUkito Kishiro’s popular manga series of the same name. The series was published during the 1990s. The main character is a girl named Alita. She is a cyborg. One day, she wakes up and finds that she has lost her memory. Luckily, a doctor saves her. As she starts her new life, Alita finds she has superhuman abilities. She decides to find the truth. She sets off a journey that leads her through a dark world. In Cameron’s own words, the movie is “not like any of the films that I’ve done before”. Its visual effects(视觉效果) are especially impressive. The film’s actors used the latest motion-capture(动作捕捉) technology. They wore special suits that record their movements. Later, motion-capture editors use these movements to make special effects. Rosa Salaza plays Alita. She wore a suit with more than 7,000 pieces and layers. It can capture human movements. The model that was used for her face was changed nearly 5,000 times to make it more vivid(生动的).24. A dangerous storm might be coming. Storms are scary. Watch for flashes of lightning. Listen for thunder. If nature sends these warnings, don’t wait for rain. Act right away to keep safe.At the first flash of lightning, quickly get inside a building or a car. Do not go into a shed(棚) for protection. It is not closed like a building, so it is not safe.Even after you are indoors, be careful. It is not smart to go near doors and windows. They can blow in or break. A room with no windows is the safest place to be.Do not wash your hands during a storm. Do not use anything that runs on electricity either. Water and electrical lines are like roads for lightning. Even if you really want to play computer games, don’t! It is better to be bored than to risk getting hurt. Try reading a book instead. Reading is more fun than playing computer games. If you can’t get to somewhere safe, stay out in the open. You may feel safe under a tree, but that is not a good place to be. Lightning is pulling toward tall poles and trees. Stay down in an open space and cover your ears to protect them. Loud thunder can damage your hearing. Lightning StrikesLightning does not strike people very often. It is not likely that you will ever see that happen. If you do, call 1-2-0. Only trained emergency workers should care for a person who has been hit by lighting. If you follow these rules, you should stay safe during a storm.28. From Paragraph 1, we learn that _______.A. storms are frightening and harmfulB. storms often come without warningsC. people should wait and watch lightningD. people should take action after the storm29.
