Aims:
1.Developing Ss’ ability of independent learning to be automatic learners.
2.Enhancing Ss’ability in using English: improving Ss’five micro-skills—
listening, speaking, reading, writing, translation—especially listening and speaking so that they can communicate in Englishorally and writtenly. Required course materials:

Note: Reading Course book is used as Ss’ self-access material.

Unit 1 Fighting with the Forces of Nature
Objectives
Students will be able to:
1.grasp the main idea and structure of the text
2.do a comparison and contrast between Napoleon’s invasion of Russian and
Hitler’s invasion of the Soviet Union.
3.master the key language points and grammatical structures in the text;
4.conduct a series of reading, listening, speaking and writing activities related tothe theme of the unit.
Pre-reading tasks
1. Group Discussion: Man or Nature, which is more powerful?
[1] Two groups: One lists examples where man can conquer nature. The other:
comes up with cases where forces of nature are too powerful to be resisted.
