考点四过去进行时

（一）定义

1.表示过去某一时刻或某一时间段内正在进行的动作，常与表示过去的时间状语连用：then, at that time, this time yesterday, at ten yesterday 等连用，或用另一动作表示过去时间。

He was cooking at six last night. 昨天晚上六点他正在做饭。

★ when通常与短暂性动词连用，while常与持续性动词连用。

He was reading when I came in. 当我进来时，他正在读书。

I was doing my homework while my parents were watching TV.

当我父母正在看电视时，我正在做作业。

2.过去进行时常与always, constantly等频率副词连用，表示过去反复发生的习惯性动作，含有说话者的赞赏、厌恶、遗憾等感情色彩。

Alice was always changing her mind. 爱丽丝总是在改变主意。

（二）结构

1.肯定式：主语+ was/were+ V-ing

3.一般疑问句：Was/ Were+主语+V-ing

Was he cooking at six last night —Yes, he was. / No, he wasn’t.

4.特殊疑问句：

（三）过去进行时与一般过去时的区别

过去进行时: 表示过去某时正在发生的动作或情况

一般过去时：强调过去某时发生的动作或状态（已完成）

Tom was writing a letter to his friend. 汤姆昨晚一直在给他的朋友写信。（信不一定写完）

Tom wrote a letter to his friend. 汤姆昨晚给他的朋友写了一封信。（信写完了）He was having dinner when I came in. 我进来时他正在吃饭。

★我进来时他正在吃饭。如果进来发生在过去，那么正在吃饭就是过去正在进行的动作，所以“进来”用一般过去时，“正在吃饭”用过去进行时。
