B [2023·烟台期中]
It was in the final days of March, 1982. I was having a
short holiday and stayed at home that week. Before the
tornado (龙卷风) came, it was windy but sunny for three
days. My dog stood outside, howled (嚎叫) for hours and
did something strange in the three days. She never acted like that before.
On the evening of the third day, we were eating dinner when the tornado sirens
(警报器) went off. We were all surprised because it was still sunny.
My best friend’s dad stood on his car with a pair of binoculars (双筒望远镜). He
tried to see where the tornado might be. Suddenly, he turned back and started shouting,
“Go inside! Get inside now!” He quickly went into the house with his daughter.
Seeing the terrible look on his face, I knew it must be serious.
My parents and I stayed at home and nervously waited. After the big wind and
heavy rain, I thought it was over. However, my dad said, “Here it comes. Get ready!”
Within a few seconds, we heard the low rumble (隆隆声) getting louder and louder.
