收稿日期:2019-07-080 前言超声波可以有效地应用于黏合和切割织物和薄膜。
超声波焊接在纺织、服装、包装、医疗、非织造业的织物和薄膜中都能找到若干应用。
1 织物和薄膜超声波焊接原理如图1所示,在超声波焊接(黏合)过程中,两层或多层材料穿过振动焊头和滚筒或砧座之间的间隙得以装配在一起。
滚筒通常是由淬火钢制成并包含机加工成的凸起图案。
超声波焊接的基本原理是超声振动焊头的高频机械运动以及焊头和滚筒之间的挤压力在焊头接触材料处产生摩擦热而出现材料黏合。
由于黏合仅发生在焊头/材料接触处,使被黏合材料具有较高程度的柔软度、透气性和吸水性。
这些性能对医疗业和洁净室环境中使用的病号服、无菌服装、尿布和其他应用至关重要。

超声波焊接(ultrasonic welding )通常包括超声黏合(ultrasonic bonding )/超声热合(ultrasonic sealing )甚至超声切割(ultrasonic slitting/cutting ,这时切割与热合同时进行)。
有三种超声波热合/切割方法:连续模式(continuous mode )、下落模式(plunge mode )和横移模式(traversing mode )。
所用的方法取决于应用要求和有关的材料制造过程。
在连续方法中(见图2),材料在固定超声波焊头和有图案的旋转砧座(通常在服装和纺织应用中)之间移动以热合或者同时切割与热合超长物件。

BASIS OF THE ULTRASONIC WELDING: RITMACON OY
1. Basis of ultrasonic welding Operating principle of the ultrasonic welding is that normal utility power (220 V / 50 - 60 Hz) is converted by generator and piezoelectric ceramics for high voltage and high frequency (20 kHz to 70 kHz) mechanical energy, which cause needed heat (friction) to connection points/surfaces of plastics parts for melting. As well there is need for pressure which joins melted parts together. [4]
Ultrasonic welding equipments primary elements are generator, converter/transducer, booster, sonotrode (also called horn), jig (also called anvil or nest) and pneumatic press.

2. Different welding frequencies for ultrasonic welding Normal frequencies which are used in ultrasonic welding are: • 20 kHz: o for larger parts, like windows in mobile phones • 35 kHz and 40 kHz: o for smaller parts, like IR-windows, IHF Lids etc. • 70 kHz o for very small parts, for riveting etc.
3. Primary elements of the ultrasonic welding machine As before there was mentioned, primary components of the ultrasonic welding machine are: • generator • converter, transformer • booster • sonotrode, horn • jig, anvil, nest • pneumatics, press
Function of the ultrasonic welding device is generate needed amplitude and pressing force for ultrasonic welding process.
High frequency power is generated in generator and converter is converting this high frequency energy to mechanical energy. Converter is giving certain amplitude, but this is not enough for ultrasonic welding process. With booster and sonotrode you can increase amplitude more (figure 2). Needed amplitude changes because of used materials and different applications. You can changes amplitude with booster and converter and also from generator. 3.1 Generator Operating principle of the generator is that it is changing low alternating current (220 V / 50 – 60 Hz) to high frequency current. Needed high frequency depends about needs/cases. There are also different power values for generators. [1]
Different power values for different frequencies: • 20 kHz: o from 1000 W to 3000 W (1000 W, 1500 W, 2000 W (normal), 3000 W) • 35 kHz: o from 400 W to 900 W (400 W, 600 W, 900 W (normal)) • 70 kHz: o 100 W
Power values depend of the different applications and the different plastic materials. Normally there is also control system integrated to the generator.
NOTICE! In welding process you have to check all the time load of the generator. If you are welding with maximum power, generator will not work properly for a long run. 3.2 Converter, transformer Converter is converting high frequency electrical energy to mechanical energy. Inside of converter, there is 2 pieces piezoelectric ceramics, which changes electrical energy to mechanical energy. [1, 2, 4]
Amplitude values from converter with different frequencies: • 20 kHz: o around 10 µm • 35 kHz: o 5 to 6 µm • 70 kHz: o 2 to 3 µm
3.3 Booster Booster is transmitting the amplitude from converter to sonotrode. Booster is also boosting the amplitude. If you want to change boosting in booster, you have to change the whole booster. Normally booster boosting ratio is 1:1.5 or 1:2. Also there are 1:1, 1:2.5 and 1:3 boosters. The choice of booster depends about applications, horn and material that you are welding.
3.4 Sonotrode, Horn The sonotrode is the last element, which transfer the mechanical energy (/amplitude) to the plastic parts. Sonotrodes shape, size and gain (increases amplitude value) depends of welded materials (plastics), shapes of applications and also about welding equipments.
