从此翻译研究出现了“去精英化”的趋势，开始渗透到人们生活的衣食住行各个方面。

同时在20世纪末，随着经济的发展，中国政府意识到，中国单单作为一个经济大国是不够的，还应该在世界上发挥文化大国的作用，因此应该用世界上的主要语言来翻译中国文化，特别是英语，从而在文化上塑造一个大国形象。

在此背景下，公示语翻译在新世纪逐渐成为我国翻译研究的一个热门话题，本文基于国内三大翻译核心期刊2000年以来有关公示语翻译研究的文章，对我国新世纪公示语翻译研究做出总结。

二、公示语翻译研究概况21世纪我国公示语翻译研究文章的数量和质量快速上升，推动我国公示语研究的直接诱因是中国参与国际盛会，包括2008年北京奥运、2010年上海世博会和2010年广州亚运会。

为了迎接这些盛会，净化语言环境，优化国际交往空间，提高我国的国际形象，国内掀起了一系列公示语研究学术性活动：2002年北京第二外国语学院成立“公示语翻译研究中心”、2003年开通“汉英公示语研究在线”、2005年中国翻译协会召开“首届全国公示语翻译研讨会”、2007年召开“第二届全国公示语翻译研讨会”，此期间《中国翻译》杂志更是开辟公示语翻译专栏邀文讨论。
