“野马”是第二次世界大战时期美国 P-51 战斗机的昵称。

在二战最后的日子里，“野马”像一把铝和火的扫帚，把纳粹空军扫出了欧洲的天空。

不过“野马”的辉煌持续的时间不长，喷气式飞机的出现终结了螺旋桨战斗机的时代。

在 21 世纪的今天，人们又在兴奋地谈论“野马”归来。

不过此“野马”非彼“野马”，眼下人们在谈论的“野马”是 OV-10 Bronco 的复活，而不是 P-51 Mustang。

更重要的是，美国空军正在评估的螺旋桨轻型攻击机实际上是列入观察机的名下，所以是 OA-X 计划，最多是有武装攻击能力的观察机，而不是以讹传讹的攻击机。

P-51“野马”是人们最熟悉的野马但 OV-10 才是可能捞到机会归来的“野马”。

尽管不一定是“直属后裔”，而是“精神后裔”观察机是美国空军特有的机种。

别的国家有炮兵观察机，也有侦察机，当然还有联络机，但都和美国空军的观察机有点不一样，这是由各国对战场空地协调的差别引起的。

空地协调有两种基本模式，一是由空地协同指挥小组（Tactical Air Control Party，简称 TACP）在地面随同地面部队行动，按地面作战需要从地面指挥空中打击力量；二是由前沿空中控制（Forward Air Control，简称 FAC）在空中负责侦察和指挥。

美国陆军和海军陆战队从二战开始就使用 TACP 模式，沿用至今。

飞行员或者具有飞行经验的军官担任 TACP 的指挥官，和战场的地面部队指挥官共同决定空中火力支援行动，就像炮兵指挥官一样。

这种空地协调方式环节少，反应敏捷（只要附近有可供应招的空中打击力量），效果直接，在战场上取得了良好的效果。

TACP 的缺点是观察和控制范围不超过地面部队的直接作战控制范围，对空中打击力量的调度容易陷入本位主义的陷阱，注重眼前现实和潜在的威胁，而对战场全局的考虑比较欠缺。

在现实中，飞行员很不愿意和地面部队一起在战壕里行动，硝烟弥漫、弹片横飞的战场不是他们所熟悉的环境，再说拔掉翅膀的鹰还不如鸡，和一群狼泡在一起很是不自在。
