I don'tget to see my cousins very often since they live so far, so I was really looking forward to it.The drive took forever! My brother and I fought about the music and who got to pick the next movie to watch on the iPad. We played some road trip games too like I Spy and 20 Questions. Mom had to keep telling us to stop bickering and be quiet so Dad could concentrate on driving. When we finally arrived after what felt like years in the car, we were so antsy to get out and run around.My cousins have a huge backyard with a swimming pool, trampoline, and playground set. We spent most of our time running around outside, taking turns on the trampoline, and cooling off in the pool when it got too hot. We had a big BBQ one night and roasted marshmallows around the fire pit. I tried to stay up really late hanging out with my cousins, but I couldn't keep my eyes open past 10pm. So much for being a night owl on summer vacation!After a fun few days, it was time to hit the road again for the next stop - the beach! The drive wasn't quite as long this time, but we still had to stop a few times for snacks, bathroom breaks, and to stretch our legs. When we finally saw the ocean for the first time, I couldn't believe how big and blue it was! We werestaying in a beach house right on the water. As soon as we arrived, I put on my swimsuit and ran straight into the waves. The water was cold but felt so refreshing.We spent an entire week at the beach swimming, boogie boarding, building sandcastles, collecting seashells, and just relaxing on the beach. One day we went on a dolphin watching tour by boat and got to see a whole pod of dolphins jumping and playing in the waves. Another day, we rented kayaks and paddled around the bay looking for crabs, fish, and birds. My brother got knocked off his kayak by a wave and got all wet! He was so mad but I thought it was hilarious.My favorite thing was taking walks on the beach in the evening when the sun was setting. The colors of the sky were incredible - bright oranges, pinks, and purples all blending together over the sparkling ocean. I loved feeling the warm sand between my toes as the waves rolled in. Sometimes I would find a perfect intact sand dollar or a piece of sea glass worn smooth by the water. We even saw a baby sea turtle making its way across the beach to the water one night!Before we knew it, our week at the beach was over and it was time to head home. As much fun as the beach was, I was actually a little bit happy to be going home. I missed my bed, my toysand video games, and the rest of my friends from school. As soon as we got back, I called up my best friend to come over and I told him all about the amazing places we went on our summer road trip.Since then, the rest of my summer has been filled with fun activities closer to home. I went to soccer camp for a week and improved my dribbling and scoring skills. My family took me and some friends to the amusement park one weekend and I went on the biggest, scariest roller coaster! I was nervous at first but it ended up being a total rush. My friends and I have also had lots of sleepovers, backyard camping adventures, and water balloon fights to beat the summer heat.With just a few weeks left until school starts again, my summer is quickly coming to an end. I'm definitely going to miss the endless free time and lack of responsibilities. Part of me is looking forward to going back to school to see my friends and learn new things. Maybe I'll even get my dream teacher this year! No matter what though, this was a summer vacation I'll never forget - full of fun, adventure, and making amazing memories with my family. I already can't wait for summer break next year!。
