Reading makes a full man 2015.7
I 为发现而读更自觉
( PDF material provided by Mr. Hu)
II为创作而读更自主
1.You might never fail on the scale(规模) I did, but some failure in life is inevitable(不可避免). It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously(谨慎) that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default(默认).
2.Failure gave me an inner security that I had never attained (got)by passing
examinations. Failure taught me things about myself that I could have learned no other way. I
discovered that I had a strong will, and more discipline(约束) than I had suspected; I also
found out that I had friends whose value was truly above rubies(红宝石).
3.The knowledge that you have emerged (显露而出)wiser and stronger from
setbacksmeans that you are, ever after, secure in your ability to survive. You will never truly
know yourself, or the strength of your relationships, until both have been tested by
adversity(逆境). Such knowledge is a true gift, for all that it is painfully won, and it has been
worth more to me than any qualification(学历)I ever earned.
4.You might think that I chose my second theme, the importance of imagination, because
of the part it played in rebuilding my life, but that is not wholly so. Though I personally will
defend the value of bedtime stories, I have learned to value imagination in a much broader
sense. Imagination is not only the uniquely human capacity to envision(展望), and therefore
the foundation(基础) of all invention and innovation(创新). It is the power that enables us to
empathise with(同情) humans whose experiences we have never shared.

III为心灵而读更自信
Harry looked in the mirror again. A woman standing right behind hisreflection was
smiling at him and waving. He reached out a hand and feltthe air behind him. If she
was really there, he'd touch her, theirreflections were so close together, but he felt
only air -- she and theothers existed only in the mirror.
She was a very pretty woman. She had dark red hair and her eyes – hereyes are just
like mine, Harry thought, edging a little closer to the glass. Bright green -- exactly the
same shape, but then he noticed thatshe was crying; smiling, but crying at the same
time. The tall, thin, black-haired man standing next to her put his arm around her. He
woreglasses, and his hair was very untidy. It stuck up at the back, just as Harry's did.
Harry was so close to the mirror now that his nose was nearly touchingthat of his
reflection."Mom?" he whispered. "Dad?"
