A lot of it is fruits and vegetables, like three legged carrots, and fought strawberries. They are deserted simply because they are not pretty enough to be displayed on store shelves. If you look at the big picture, about a third of the planet's food goes to waste for the same reason. That's enough to feed 2 billion people. Now, a company called Imperfect Me is trying to change that situation. The company collects ugly fruits and vegetables from farmers and markets and sells them to local residents at a deep discount. It can be 30 to 50% of the regular price. Similar campaigns are underway in places like Boston, as well as Portugal and the UK.For now, most chain supermarkets don't carry ugly fruits and vegetables. But Steve Clark's of Imperfect Me hopes the supermarkets will come around because c ustomers want such food. He says it is really easy to convince people when they realize they can pay a lower price to get the same kind of taste and health. Now listen again.Questions:11. What is the passage mainly about?Questions 14 through 16 are based on the following passage.A city in England has started an ambitious plan to plant as many as 1 million trees every year for the next decade. The project is called the City of Trees. Project director Tony Brown explained that the green venture has three main aims. He said, One is to plant a tree for every man, woman, and child over the next decade. Next, we are very much focused on bringing existing woodland into management because it doesn't make any sense to plant new woodland if you can't manage what you've got already. Finally, we want to engage people a lot more in their natural environment that is implanting trees in managing areas. And in understanding more about the benefits that trees and woodlands bring to our society, Mr. Brown further outlined the reasons for the recently launched environmental project. He said our city wants to be a world class region. We have a lot of fantastic economic development going on, but the natural environment needs to keep up with that.He believes the project will reconnect people with trees and the natural world, provide benefits to health and reduce stress. He said “woodlands can do great things in terms of air pollution reduction and can help to protect against noise pollution. They can”.also help cities and towns reduce the urban heat island effect and floodingNow listen again.Questions:14. According to the passage, how many trees will be planted in all in the next decade?15. According to the passage, which of the following is the main goal of the project?16. I had to find a place so I could get to my classroom quickly.W: But since you shouldn't have left your car there, it was moved away.M: Then how do I get my car back?W: Well. Go to the campus traffic office. That's opposite the administration building, and on the left side of the stadium, please bring your student card along.M: I will. Do I have to pay a fine?W: I'm sorry to say yes. There's a parking fine. And before taking your car, you also have to pay for the storage fee.M: OK. How much will that be?W: The storage fee is $5 per day. So you'd better pick up your car today if possible. The fine is 50. But if you pay within three days, the fine is reduced to 20. Each summer, the 300 hot springs nearby attract about 40,000 tourists. For the rest of the year, it is home to just 3,000 people. It is not the kind of place you’d expect to find Kitten Coffee, a famous food company. After university in 1992, Miss Rosemary, founder of the company, wanted nothing more than to live in a small town. With jobs hard to come by in Everbrown, she and her husband had to move into a cabin with no electricity or running water, and began to run a fruit stand specifically for tourists during the summer months. They quickly realized that they needed to set up a business that could be successful all year round. In 1996, they began roasting coffee beans intheir garage, giving the business the name Kitten Coffee. As sales quickly took off, it soon became apparent that their product was going to be better known than the town from which it came. Since then, Kitten Coffee has become one of the biggest success stories. Its special image of a brown kitten appears in grocery stores and cafes across the country.Questions:11. What is the population of the town Everbrown?12. What can be learned about the company?13. Five years ago, as a pioneer in e-commerce, we set up a team and announced a multi-year initiative to reduce your frustration. We named it “Keep It Simple”packaging or ‘KIS’ packaging for short. At that time we made an introduction video and got a great many comments like this: "The old packaging took scissors and sweat to open. The new way is perfect."Since the launch five years ago, our KIS team has worked hard. We launched with 29 products. Today we offer more than 300,000 different products in KIS packaging, and they’ve been ordered more than 85 million times. In addition to being frustration-free, this packaging is also better for the environment --- no clear plastic materials and it’s smaller. KIS packaging has so far eliminated over27.4 million pounds of packaging material. We still4have further to go on this initiative and we’ll keep after it. We want to say thank you to the millions of customers and thousands of sellers who have supported us on this journey so far. If you’d like to share your feedback and suggestions with us this holiday season, you can reach us anytime at our website. Your comments are the driving force behind hundreds of packaging improvements every year.Questions:14. What can be learned about KIS packaging?15. What has the KIS team done so far?16. What is the speaker mainly talking about? Questions 17 through 20 are based on the following conversation.W: Hey, Steven! I’m thinking of renting an apartment.W: Good idea!M: But the places close to campus are expensive, and the affordable ones are too far.W: Can’t you take buses?M: Sometimes I have to stay on campus late for tons of laboratory work and assignments after buses stop running.W: Hmm. That’s a point for being close to campus. Why not find a home stay family?M: You mean living with a local family?W: Yeah, you get your meals as well.M: But the problem is my schedule. I might not beable to have dinner at usual time. And I may wake people up when I come back late.W: That’s true.M: Now my only hope is to find a roommate.Together, we can afford a place close enough to the school.W: But you may have different schedules. There is only one place where you’ll find all these information, and that’s in the Guinness Book of World Records. This morning we have someone from the Guin ness Company that produced that famous book, Thomas Manning. “Welcome to the program, Thomas!” “Thanks, Sue. It’s a pleasure to be here.” “Perhaps you could start by telling us where the idea for the book came from.” “Well, it was first suggested in the early 1950s. Sir Hugh Beaver, the managing director of Guinness, was out shooting birds with some friends. A bird flew away so quickly that no one was able to shoot it. Sir Hugh wondered whether this bird was the fastest bird in Europe, and if it wasn’t the fastest, he wondered what was.” “So I suppose he went to the nearest library to look for the information and he couldn’t find it?” “Yes, that’s exactly what happened. And this made Sir Hugh think there must be other people in the same situation who wanted this kind of information. He thought that, like himself, people would be interested in finding facts of all records to satisfy their curiosity.” “So the idea for a book of records was born. And when did the first book come out?”“A few years later, in 1955.So, to ask your first question: the tallest person in the world is tall. And the oldest person is Jeanne. L. Calment, who was born in February, 1875.” “There are also some rather strange records, aren’t there, Thomas?” “Yes ,that’s right. Did you know, Sue, that the shortest time it is taken …”。
