2. 不规则名词单复数变化:
（1）单复数同形:sheep, deer, fish, means, species, species, works(工厂), aircraft, spacecraft, Chinese, Japanese, Swiss
（2）改变字母：man --men, woman --women, policeman --policemen, saleswoman --saleswomen, foot --feet, tooth --teeth, goose --geese, Mouse --Mice ,
（5）以f或fe结尾的词: 直接加s：roof, proof, belief, chief, gulf,
变f为v再加es：life, wife, knife, half, leaf, wolf, thief
另外：handkerchief （handkerchiefs或handkerchieves） beef（beeves菜牛 、beefs怨言；牢骚）
(3) 集体名词视具体情况而定单复数： family, class, population, staff, crew, couple, public,
group, team, party, club, company, government, committee, audience, enemy (4) 只有复数形式的名词: clothes, trousers, jeans, twins, glasses, compasses, scissors, handcuffs, goods ,thanks, wishes, tears, troops, forces, resources

(1) 专有名词
• (1) 在通常情况下，专有名词具有“独一无二”的含义，因 此它通常没有复数形式，即不可数。 • 但是，专有名词的独一无二性通常是相对的，随着范围 的扩大，这种独一无二性便会受到破坏。如在一个星期 (week)内，只有一个星期六(Saturday), 一个星期日 (Sunday)等，但是在一个月中甚至一年中，便有多个星期 六，多个星期日了。所以我们有时可以说： • We have spent many happy Sundays there. • There are five Henrys in our school. • (在一个小范围内，可能只有一个 Henry，但在一个较 大的范围内则可能有多个 Henry) • Thousands of Lei Fengs have emerged in China. • 中国涌现出了千千万万个雷锋。 • (若专有名词转化成了普通名词，也可以是可数的)
• 2. 单数与复数同形式的名词。中学英语中主 要的有：sheep 绵羊，fish 鱼，deer 鹿， Chinese 中国人，Japanese 日本人， Portuguese 葡萄牙人，Swiss 瑞士人， aircraft 飞行器，means 方法，series 系列， head (牛等的)头数，works 工厂，等。 • 注：fish 有时也用 fishes 这样的复数形 式，尤其表示种类时;head 若不是牲口的“头 数”，而是表示“人的头”或“人数”，则要用 heads 这样的复数形式。
• (5) 以 f 或 fe 结尾的名词，也有两种可能：即 有些直接加词尾-s，有些则把 f / fe 改为 ves： • chief / chiefs 首领 • roof / roofs 屋顶 • knife / knives 小刀 • 注：要改 f / fe 为 ves 的只有以下10个词( 它们都是日常生活中的常用词)：wife妻子， life 生命，knife 小刀，leaf 树叶，thief 贼，half 一半，self 自己，shelf 架子，loaf 面包，wolf 狼。 • 另外，handkerchief(手帕)一词的复数有两 种形式：handkerchiefs / handkerchieves，但在 现代英语中，以用 handkerchiefs 为多见。

• 名词的分类
名词可以分为专有名词和普通名词，专有名词是某个（ 些）人，地方，机构等专有的名称，如Beijing，China等。 普通名词是一类人或东西或是一个抽象概念的名词，如： book，sadness等。普通名词又可分为下面四类： 1）个体名词：表示某类人或东西中的个体，如：gun。 2）集体名词：表示若干个个体组成的集合体，如：family 。 3）物质名词：表示无法分为个体的实物，如：air。 4）抽象名词：表示动作、状态、品质、感情等抽象概念， 如：work。
复数名词的构成方式：
1) 名词后直接加-s。清辅音后读[s];浊辅音和元音 后读[z].

2) 以-s , -x, -ch, -sh结尾的名词加-es[iz].

3) 以“辅音＋y”结尾的名词，先把y变成i,再加上es [iz].

• 有些名词的复数形式同原形。这些名词有 ：deer, sheep, fish, Chinese, Japanese, Swiss, li(里), jin(斤), yuan(元), mu(亩), means(方式，方法)等。

7)以f和fe结尾的名词的复数有三种情况： a)直接加-s. 一个首领（chief）带着一个农奴（serf ）在海湾（ gulf）的悬崖（cliff ）上信仰（belief）一个屋顶（ roof）上面有个保险箱（safe）的证据（proof ）

个体名词和集体名词可以用数目来计算，称为可数名词， 物质名词和抽象名词一般无法用数目计算，称为不可数名 词。

1. 不可数名词(U) 一般情况下，不可数名词没有复数形式，前面 不与不定冠词a(n)连用，作主语时，谓语动词 用单数形式。 Milk is my favourite food. Water is very important to us all. 特殊情况： 1)如果不可数名词表示特指，则必须与定冠词 (the)或其它限定词连用。 The milk in the cup was bad.
