finish Activity2 individually.

2. Discuss and check in

pairs 1.To practice reading

skills and get main ideas.

8’ Step 3. Read and match 1.Play the tape and get the

Ss to follow silently. Find

out the main idea of each

paragraph. Present the

five topic sentences on the screen by computer.

A. Liu Xiang isn’t an

overnight success.

B. Life as a sporting hero has

just started for Liu Xiang. C. Now that he is well known

Liu Xiang will be asked to do

many things

D. With the help of a special

programme, Liu was trained and he got gold medals.

E. What’s next for Liu

Xiang ? He’ll go for more

medals for China.

2. Get the Ss to check the answers.

follow the tape and

match the topic

paragraph individually first.

groups of four.

5′ Step 5 Pair work

1. Get the Ss to answer

the questions in pairs orally first. Then after

checking the answers with

the whole class get them

to ask and answer in

pairs.

5’ Step 6 Discussion

1.Get the Ss to work in groups and to discuss any

difficulties they meet and

if they can’t solve them

themselves, they can ask

for help. 2.Get them to focus on

the key phrases draw lines

under them.

(compare with, compare to compare with 是“把…….和……比较”如We compare

the translation with the original. 而Compare to 是

“把……比作”的意思。如

We compare him to a little tiger.有时两者可以互换。如

同巴黎比较而言伦敦大些。

(with) Paris. 在表示“比不上”、“不能比”的意思时用compare with,

5’ Step 7 Writing

1.Get the Ss to rewrite the notes in Activity 3 in full

sentences according to the

time order.

2.Get them to exchange their writing after they’ve

finished and to read and

correct the mistakes each

other.

3.Get them to read and understand the sentences

in Activity 6.Then get

them to write sentences

about Zhang Yining.

Step 8 homework

1.Copy and remember the

key phrases.

2.Listen to the tape again

at home. 3.Try to introduce one of

your favourite sports stars

in the time order.

1.Look at the note in Activity 3, change the notes into

full sentences according to

the time order

individually.

2.Ckeck in pairs and have a peer correction.

3.To read and understand

the sentences in Activity 6.Then get them to write

sentences about Zhang

Yining.

1. review the details about the passage, to

help them to practice

writing skills.

2. To learn to help and improve each other.

3.To feel and understand

the new grammars and to practice writing.
