100,000 US hospital patients each year, making them a leading cause of death nationwide, according to a report in the Journal of the American Medical Association.“The incidence (发生率) of serious and fatal adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in US hospitals was found to be extremely high,” say researchers at the University of Toronto in Ontario, Canada. They carried out an analysis of 39 ADR-related studies at UShospitals over the past 30 years and defined an ADR as “any harmful, unintended, and undesired effect of a drug which occurs at doses (剂量) used in humans for me dical treatment.”.An average 6.7% of all hospitalized patients experience an ADR every year, according to the researchers. They estimate that “in 1994, overall 2,216,000 hospitalized patients had serious ADRs, and 106,000had fatal ADRs.” This means that ADRs may rank as the fourth single largest cause of death in America..The control of ADRs also means spending more money. One US study estimated the overall cost of treating ADRs at up to $4 billion per year.Dr. David Bates of Brigham and Women’s Hospita l in Boston, Massachusetts, believes that healthcare workers need to pay more attention to the problem, especially since many ADRs are easily preventable. “When a patient develops an allergy (过敏症) or sensitivity, it is often not recorded,” Bates notes, “an d patients receive drug to which they have known allergies or sensitivities with disturbing frequency.” He believes **puterized systems – stillwork-in-progress at many of the nation’s hospitals – should help cut down the frequency of these types of errors.SSS_SINGLE_SEL61.Who wrote the reporter in the American journal?A The American Medical Association.B Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.C Doctors at an American hospitalD Researchers at a Canadian university.该题您未回答:х该问题分值: 2答案:DSSS_SINGLE_SEL62.What does the word fatal (Para. 4) mean in the passage?A Resulting in death.B LuckyC Leading to happiness.D Worried该题您未回答:х该问题分值: 2答案:ASSS_SINGLE_SEL63.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?A ADRs cause a lot of Americans to die every year.B The control of ADRs costs huge amount of money.C Only hospitalized patients may experience ADRs.D ADRs are one of the leading causes of death in US.该题您未回答:х该问题分值: 2答案:CSSS_SINGLE_SEL64.What does Dr. Bates mainly imply in what he says?A ADRs can be easily identified and prevented.B Healthcare workers are too busy to notice ADRs.C Hosptials may **puters to prevent ADRs.D Doctors and nurses are partly responsible for ADRs.该题您未回答:х该问题分值: 2答案:DSSS_SINGLE_SEL65.Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?A Adverse Drug Reactions – A Major Cause of DeathB Adverse Drug Reactions Are Medical ErrorsC Doctors and Adverse Drug ReactionsD High Incidence of Adverse Drug Reactions该题您未回答:х该问题分值: 2答案:APassage TwoQuestions 66 to 70 are based on the following passage:Every human being has a unique arrangement of the skin on his fingers and this arrangement is unchangeable. Scientists and experts have proved the uniqueness of fingerprints and discovered that no exactly similar pattern is passed on from parents to children, though nobody knows why this is the case. The structure on a person’s fingers does not change with growth and is not affected by superficial injuries. Burns, cuts and other damage to the outer part of the skin will be replaced in time by new skin which bears a reproduction of the original pattern. It is only when the inner skin is injured that the arrangement will be destroyed. Some criminals make use of this fact to remove their own fingerprints but this is a dangerous and rare step to take.Fingerprints can be made easily with printer’s ink. They can be recorded easily. With special methods, identification (辨识) can be achieved successfully within a short time. Because of the simplicity and economy of this system, fingerprints have often been used as a method of solving criminal cases. A suspected man denies a charge, but his fingerprints can prove who he is even if his appearance has been changed by age or accidents. When a suspect leaves fingerprints behind at the scene of crime, they are difficult to detect with the naked eye. Special techniques areused to “develop” them. Some of the marks found are incomplete but identification is possible if a print in the size of a quarter of an inch square can be obtained.SSS_SINGLE_SEL66.Which countries respected Deming’s and Juran’s ideas according to the passage?A India and BrazilB India and Japan.C US and Japan.D Japan and Brazil.该题您未回答:х该问题分值: 2答案:BSSS_SINGLE_SEL67.Which of the following is true about the cost of software quality?A It is higher in US than in JapanB It is higher in Japan than in India.C It is higher in India than in BrazilD It is higher in Brazil than in US.该题您未回答:х该问题分值: 2答案:ASSS_SINGLE_SEL68.What does the passage say about Watts Humphrey?A He was responsible for software production while at IBMB He has won more respect in US than overseas.C His advanced system helped reduce the production cost.D He was paid more in **panies after his retirement.该题您未回答:х该问题分值: 2答案:CSSS_SINGLE_SEL69.What advice does the writer give to US **panies?A They must pay their employees more for their hard work.B They should tell their workers to pay more attention to production cost.C They must try their best to attract more specialists.D They should be more concerned with the quality of their products.该题您未回答:х该问题分值: 2答案:DSSS_SINGLE_SEL70.What does the writer imply about **petition in the future?A Brazil may reduce their production costs.B Japan may employ more quality specialists than other countries.C India may take the lead in **petition.D US will surely beat other countries and win **petition.该题您未回答:х该问题分值: 2答案:CPassage ThreeQuestions 71 to 75 are based on the following passage:In a family where the roles of men and women are not sharply separated and where many household tasks are shared to a greater or lesser extent, male superiority is hard to maintain. The pattern of sharing in tasks and in decisions makes for equality, and this in turn leads to further sharing. In such a home, the growing boy and girl learn to accept that equality more easily than did their parents and to prepare more fully for participation in a world characterized by co-operation rather than by the “battle of the sexes”.If the process goes too far and man’s role is regarded as less important – and that has happened in some cases – we are as badly off as before, only in reverse. It is time to reassess (重新评估) the role of the man in the American family. We are getting a little tired of “Momism” –but we don’t want to exchange it for a “Neo-popism” (新式爸爸主义). What we need, rather, is the recognition that bringing up children involves a partnership of equals. There are signs that specialists on the family are becoming more aware of the part men play and that they have decided that women should not receive all the credit – not all the blame. We have almost given up saying that a woman’s place is in the home. We are beginning, however, to analyze men’s place in the home and to insist that he does have a place in it. Nor is that place irrelevant to the healthy development of the child.SSS_SINGLE_SEL71.To what extent does the writer agree with the historian a century from now?A He agrees only slightlyB He agrees **pletely.C He almost disagrees.D He **pletely.该题您未回答:х该问题分值: 2答案:BSSS_SINGLE_SEL72.What can you infer from the passage about slaughterhouses?A Animals were killed for meat there.B Animal bodies were cut into pieces there.C Henry Ford used to be a slaughter.D Slaughterhouse owners used automobiles first.该题您未回答:х该问题分值: 2答案:BSSS_SINGLE_SEL73.What happened on the first day when the assembly line was tried in Ford’s factory?A The workers spent 20 minutes on one assembly.B The workers saved more than 13 minutes for one assembly.C The workers spent 10 minutes on one assembly.D The workers saved more than 6 minutes for one assembly.该题您未回答:х该问题分值: 2答案:DSSS_SINGLE_SEL74.Which of the following is NOT true about Ford’s cars after 1913?A Their price was reduced to $260.B They were assembled more efficiently.C A lot more of them were made.D All Americans could afford them.该题您未回答:х该问题分值: 2答案:DSSS_SINGLE_SEL75.Why did Ford write the book entitled Today and Tomorrow?A To encourage other car makers to sell more cars.B To make his way of manufacturing known to others.C To win praise from people the world over.D To advise the world to buy his assembly line.该题您未回答:х该问题分值: 2答案:BPart V Translation from English into ChineseDirections: In this part there is a passage with 5 underlined sections, numbered 76 to 80. After reading the passage carefully, translate the underlined sections into Chinese. Remember to write your translation on the Translation Sheet. There is much discussion today about whether economic growth is desirable.(76) At an earlier period, our desire for material wealth may have been justified.TNow, however, this desire for more than we need is causing serious problems. (77) Even though we have good intentions, we may be producing too much, too fast. Those who criticize economic growth argue that we must slow down. They believe that society is approaching certain limits on growth. These include the fixed supply of natural resources, the possible negative effects of industry on the natural environment, and the continuing i ncrease in the world’s population. (78) As society reaches these limits, economic growth can no longer continue, and the quality of life will decrease.People who want more economic growth, on the other hand, argue that even at the present growth rate there are many poor people in the world.(79) These supporters of economic growth believe that only more growth can create the capital needed to improve the quality of life in the world. Furthermore, they argue that only continued growth can provide the financial resources required to protect our natural surroundings from industrialization. This debate over thedesirability of continued economic growth is of vital importance to business and industry. If those who argue against economic growth are correct, the problems they mention cannot be ignored.(80) To find a solution, economists and **munity must pay attention to these problems and discuss them with one another.76.77.78.79.80.SSS_TEXT_QUSTI76.At an earlier period, our desire for material wealth may have been justified.答案:在较早时期,我们对物质财富的渴望也许是合理的。

Most people find they eat and sleep slightly more in winter and dislike the dark mornings and short days. For some, however, symptoms (症状) are severe enough to damage their lives and to cause considerable stress. These people are suffering from SAD. The symptoms tend to start from around September each year lasting until April, but are at their worst in the darkest months. The standard figure says that around 2% of people in Northern Europe suffer badly, with many more (10%) putting up with milder symptoms. Across the world the incidence (发生率) increases with distance from the equator (赤道), except where there is snow on the ground, when it becomes less common. More women than men are found having SAD. Children and young people can also suffer from it. The problem stems from the lack of bright light in winter. Researchers have proved that bright light makes a difference to the brain chemistry, although the exact means by which sufferers are affected is not yet known. As the cause is lack of bright light, the treatment is to be in bright light every day by using a lightbox or a similar bright treatment. (Going to a brightly-lit climate, whether skiing or somewhere hot, is indeed a cure). The preferred level of light is about as bright as a spring morning on a clear day and for most people sitting in front of a lightbox, allowing the light to reach the eyes, for between 15 and 45 minutes daily will be sufficient to alleviate the symptoms. The user does not have to stare at the light, but can watch TV or read a book, just allowing the light to reach the eyes. OUTSIDE IN have a complete range of suitable lights, all in line with the research findings from medical and academic facilities. They are all available on our pioneering HOME TRIAL SYSTEM. What does the word “alleviate” (Paragraph 4) most probably mean? (分数:2.00)A.“cause”B.“produce”C.“show”D.“reduce”√解析:(5). What does the last paragraph mainly talk about? (分数:2.00)A.Why people suffer from SAD.B.How SAD patients can be treated. √C.How long an SAD treatment lasts.D.Where people can go for SAD treatment.解析:Passage Two Questions 66 to 70 are based on the following passage: Increasingly, over the past ten years, people – especially young people – have become aware of the need to change their eating habits, because much of the food they eat, particularly processed foods, is not good for the health. Consequently, there has been a growing interest in natural foods. Natural foods, for example, are vegetable, fruit and grain which have been grown in soil that is rich in organic (有机的) matter, in simple terms, this means that the soil has been nourished (滋养) by unused vegetable matter, which provides it with essential vitamins (维生素) and minerals. This in itself is a natural process compared with the use of chemicals and fertilizers, the main purpose of which is to increase the quantity –but not the quality –of foods grown in commercial farming areas. Natural foods also include animals which have been allowed to feed and move freely in healthy farms. Compare this with what happens in the mass production of poultry: there are battery farms, for example, where thousands of chickens live crowded together in one building and are fed on food which is little better than rubbish. Chickens kept in this way are not only tasteless as food; they also produce eggs which lack important vitamins. There are other aspects of healthy eating which are now receiving increasing attention from experts on diet. Take, for example, the question of sugar. This is actually a non-essential food. Although a natural alternative, such as honey, can be used to sweeten food if this is necessary, we can in fact do without it. It is not that sugar is harmful in itself. But the problem is that the quantity we use has grown steadily over the last two centuries and in Britain today each person consumes an average of 200 pounds a year! Yet all it does is provide us with energy, in the form of calories. There are no vitamins in it, no minerals, and no fiber. (分数:10.00)(1).Why do people now prefer natural foods? (分数:2.00)A.Because they grow fast and cost less.B.Because they fit people’s eating habi ts.C.Because they are good to people’s health.√D.Because they are simply processed foods.解析:(2).Which of the following is true according to Paragraph 2? (分数:2.00)A.Fertilizers are important in growing natural foods.B.Soil for natural foods usually lacks organic matter.C.Natural foods are grown in commercial farming areas.D.Chemicals are used to increase the quantity of foods grown. √解析:(3).What is the writer’s attitude towards chickens fed on battery farms? (分数:2.00)A.Supportive.B.Doubtful.C.Hopeful.D.Negative. √解析:(4).What is the most important point the writer wants to make about sugar? (分数:2.00)A.People use it to sweeten food.B.It gives us much-needed energy.C.People take too much of it. √D.It is actually a kind of honey.解析:(5).Which of the following is closest in meaning to the word “diet” (Paragraph 4)? (分数:2.00)A.“food”√B.“rice”C.“animals”D.“agriculture”解析:Passage Three Questions 71 to 75 are based on the following passage: Friends play an important part in our lives, and although we may take the friendship for granted, we often don’t clearly understand how we make friends. While we get on well with a number of people, we are usually friends with only a very few – for example, the average among students is about 6 per person. In all the cases of friendly relationships, two people like one another and enjoy being together, but beyond that, the degree of intimacy between them and the reasons for their shared interest vary enormously. As we get to know people we take into account things like age, race, economic condition, social position, and intelligence. Although these factors are not of prime importance, it is more difficult to get on with people when there is a marked difference in age and background. Some friendly relationships can be kept on argument and discussion, but it is usual for close friends to have similar ideas and beliefs, to have attitudes and interests in common – they often talk about “being on the same wavelength”. It generally takes time to reach this point. And the more intimately involved people become, the more they rely on one another. People want to do friends favors and hate to break a promise. Equally, friends have to learn to put up with annoying habits and to tolerate differences of opinion. In contrast with marriage, there are no friendship ceremonies to strengthen the association between two people. But the supporting and understanding of each other that results from shared experiences and emotions does seem to create a powerful bond, which can overcome differences in background, and break down barriers of age, class or race. (分数:10.00)(1). What does the passage say about making friends? (分数:2.00)A.People usually have fewer friends than they think.B.People do not have to like each other to become friends.C.People become friends when they get on well with each other. √D.People consider age and background unimportant in making friends.解析:(2). Which of the following statements is true according to Paragraph 2? (分数:2.00)A.Tolerance is vital to friendship.B.Friends are usually interdependent. √C.Friends do not rely financially on each other.D.Annoying habits are worse than promise breaking.解析:(3).What does the passage imply about marriage? (分数:2.00)A.There is no friendship involved in it.B.There is usually a special occasion for it. √C.It requires shared experiences and emotions.D.It is a much closer relationship than friendship.解析:(4). Which of the following contributes to friendship the most? (分数:2.00)A.Similarities in class and race.B.Similarities in age and background.C.Similarities in habits and beliefs. √D.Similarities in opinion and feelings.解析:(5). Which of the following is the best title for the passage? (分数:2.00)A.Friends and Friendship √B.Marriage and FriendshipC.Benefits from FriendsD.The Art of Making Friends解析:六、Part V Translation from English into Chinese (总题数:1,分数:5.00)Man has long wanted to fly. He saw birds, envied them and tried to imitate them. Over the ages, countless attempts were made: men constructed wings, fastened them to their arms and legs and jumped off towers and hilltops. These “bird-men” flapped (拍动) their wings for short space of time and then fell to the ground. (76) What was not realized in those early years was that birds have muscles very much stronger, in proportion to their size, than men. Human limbs cannot provide sufficient strength to lift the body off the ground. (77) The secret of flight did not lie in the making of wings, but in discovering the right kind of power, and how to use it. In the 18th century, the invention of the hot-air balloon by the Montgolfier brothers of France was seen as a great step forward. (78) But balloons and the cigar-shaped airship, which was invented slightly later, did not solve the problem of flying because they had no means of power or control. So the difficulty remained: a true flying machine which was heavier than air and capable of carrying people was still to be invented.(79) Experiments were carried out in many countries, sometimes with models driven by steam engines, but these were too heavy to be used in an airplane with a pilot. The answer finally came at the beginning of this century with the invention of the internal combustion engine (内燃机) – the kind used in motor cars. Here at last was a powerful, yet comparatively light engine, driven by petrol and capable of being fitted into an airplane. In 1903, two American, the brothers Wilbur and Orville Wright, flew a powered airplane for the first time. Their success encouraged designers everywhere.(80) Although there were now newer, different problems, mainly to do with safety and training of pilots, progress was rapid. These were exciting days and interest was intense. The age of airplane arrived. 76. 77. 78. 79. 80. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A), B), C) and D). You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center.Passage OneIt is customary for adults to forget how hard and dull and long school is. The learning by memory of all the basic things one must know is a most incredible and unending effort. School is not easy and it is not for the most part very much fun, but then, if you are very lucky, you may find a real teacher. Three teachers in a lifetime are the very best of my luck. My first was a science and math teacher in high school, my second, a professor of creative writing at Stanford, and my third was my friend and partner, ED Rickets. I have to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few as there are any other great artists. It might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit. My three teachers had these things in common: They all loved what they were doing: they did not tell, but stimulated a burning desire to know. Under their influence, the horizons sprang wide and fear went away and the unknown became knowable. I shall speak only of my first teacher because in addition to the other things, she brought discovery. She aroused us to shouting, bookwaving discussions. She had the noisiest class in school and she did not even seem to know it. We could never stick to the subject. Our speculation(思绪)ranged the world. She breathed curiosity into us so that we brought in facts or truths shielded in our hands like captured fireflies(萤火虫). She was fired, and perhaps rightly so, for failing to teach fundamentals. Such things must be learned. But she left a passion(激情)in us for the pure knowable world and she inflamed me with a curiosity which has never left. I have had many teachers who told me soon-forgotten facts but only three who created in me a new attitude and a new hunger. What deathless power lies in the hands of such a person?1.In the writer’s opinion, school life is usually______.A.excitingB.interestingC.tiresomeD.challenging正确答案:C2.We can infer from Paragraph 2 that______.A.it is easy to find great artists as well as great teachersB.there are few great teachers but many great artistsC.the greatest artists are not easy to find: nor are the greatest teachersD.being a great teacher is a great art to learn because teachers spread knowledge 正确答案:C3.In the writer’s opinion, a good teacher should______.A.teach students the fundamental thingsB.stick to one subject and be strict with studentsC.teach students the knowledge ranging the worldD.arouse students’ curiosity and desire to know the world正确答案:D4.The writer’s first teacher was dismissed mainly because______.A.her class was the noisiest in schoolB.she did not teach basic knowledge in classC.she let students shout and wave books in classD.she did not know how to teach basic knowledge effectively正确答案:B5.What is the best title of this article?A.The Teachers in My LifeB.How to Become a TeacherC.What to Teach at SchoolD.What Makes a Good Teacher正确答案:DPassage TwoAccording to psychologists(心理学家), an emotion is aroused when a man or animal views something as either bad or good. When a person feels like running away from something he thinks will hurt him, we call this emotion fear. If the person wants to remove the danger by attacking it, we call the emotion anger. The emotions of joy and love are aroused when we think something can help us. An emotion does not have to be created by something in the outside world. It can be created by a person’s thoughts. Everyone has emotions. Many psychologists believe that infants are born without emotions. They believe children learn emotions just as they learn to read and write. A growing child not only learns his emotions but learns howto act in certain situations because of an emotion. Psychologists think that there are two types of emotion: positive and negative. Positive emotions include love, liking, joy, delight, and hope. They are aroused by something that appeals to a person. Negative emotions make a person unhappy or dissatisfied. They include anger, fear, despair, sadness, and disgust. In growing up, a person learns to cope with the negative emotions in order to be happy. Emotions may be weak or strong. Some strong emotions are so unpleasant that a person will try every means to escape from them. In order to feel happy, the person may choose unusual ways to avoid the emotion. Strong emotions can make it hard to think and to solve problems. They may prevent a person from learning or paying attention to what he is doing. For example, a student taking an examination may be so worried about failing that he cannot think properly. The worry drains valuable mental energy he needs for the examination.6.We learn from the passage that an emotion is created by something______.A.one feels in dangerB.one faces in the outside worldC.one thinks bad or goodD.one tries to escape from real life正确答案:C7.Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the passage?A.Babies are born with emotions.B.Emotions fall into two types in general.C.Children learn emotions as they grow up.D.People can cope with the negative emotions in life.正确答案:A8.The author’s purpose in writing this passage is to______.A.explain why people have emotionsB.define and classify people’s emotionsC.show how people avoid the negative emotionsD.explain what people should do about emotions正确答案:B9.When a student is too worried about failing in the exam,______.A.he will simply give upB.he will not be able to think properlyC.he will need extra mental energyD.he will try very hard to solve the problems正确答案:B10.The word “drains”(Para .5)most probably means______.A.tiesB.stopsC.flowsD.weakens正确答案:DPassage ThreeMany a young person tells me he wants to be a writer. I always encourage such people, but I also explain that there’s a big difference between “being a writer”and writing. In most cases these individuals are dreaming of wealth and fame, not the long hour alone at a typewriter. “You’ve got to want to write,” I say to them . “not want to be a writer”. The reality is that writing is a lonely, private and poorly-paid affair. For every writer kissed by fortune there are thousands more whose longing is never rewarded. When I left a 20-year career in the US Coast Guard to become a ereelance(自由职业)writer, I had no prospects at all. What I did have was a friend who found me a room in a New York apartment building. It didn’t even matter that it was cold and had no bathroom. I immediately bought a used manual typewriter and felt like a genuine writer. After a year or so, however, I still hadn’t gotten a break and began to doubt myself. It was so hard to sell a story that I barely made enough to eat. But I knew I wanted to write, I had dreamed about it for years. I wasn’t going to be one of those people who die wondering: What if? I would keep putting my dream to the test even though it meant living with uncertainty and fear of failure. This is the shadowland of hope, and anyone with a dream must learn to live there.11.The word “prospects”(Para .2)is closest in meaning to______.A.rich resourcesB.reasonable hopesC.strong desiresD.enormous advantages正确答案:B12.The writer mentions his 20-year career in the US Coast Guard in order to show______.A.his regret at leaving the armyB.his determination to realize his dreamC.his disappointment with the army lifeD.his excitement with the new life in the big city正确答案:B13.The writer would use all the following words to describe his life as a writer, except______.A.failureB.lonelinessC.wealthD.hard work正确答案:C14.What is the main idea of the passage?A.One may become a writer if he loves writing.B.One may become a writer if he keeps on writing.C.One will surely become a writer if he works hard.D.One will surely become a writer if he learns to write.正确答案:B15.Who do you think most likely wrote this passage?A.A poor dreamer.B.A successful writer.C.A journal editor.D.A literature professor.正确答案:BSection BDirections: In this section, there is a passage with ten blanks. Thanks to modern methods of transport, we can travel everywhere more easily and more quickly than ever before, but the language problem still remains. Without a common language, misunderstandings arise and there can be no real communication between people of different nationalities. There are two possible solutions to this problem: either we choose one of the existing major languages of the world, or we make up an artificial one. But neither solution is simple because no existing major language will be acceptable to everyone and because an artificial language, such as Esperanto(世界语), has no literature and would be thought dull by many learners. It is often said that English is quickly becoming a world language. It is certainly the most widely used language in the world, and second only to Chinese in its number of native speakers, but there are certain dangers in choosing English as an international language. First of all, owing to political reasons and national pride, English is not acceptable to everyone as a world language. Many dislike its influence: they see it as a form of interference, perhaps even domination. English words enter their languages and this too causes offence. Although English is being taught in more and more schools abroad, the process is not always popular. Not every nation is prepared to accept the dominant position of a foreign language in their educational system. Another danger is that differences in standard English arise from its use throughout the world. It could break up, with languages developing from dialects(方言)of English. Already Indian teachers and Nigerian students have been unable to understand each other’s English. Questions:46.Why can we travel more easily nowadays?正确答案:Because of modern methods of transport.47.Why is there no real communication between people of different nationalities? .正确答案:Because of misunderstandings without a common language.48.Which language is spoken by more people than any other language?正确答案:Chinese.49.What do many people dislike about English?正确答案:They dislike its influence.50.Why can’t Indian teachers and Nigerian students understand each other’s English?正确答案:Because differences in standard English arise from its use.Part ⅣWriting51.Some students prefer to start their own business after graduation. Others prefer to work for an employer. Which do you prefer? Give reasons to support your answer. Writer a short essay of about 100 words on this topic. Write your essay on Answer Sheet 2.正确答案:Nowadays there are many college students who choose to start their own business instead of working for an employer after graduation. This phenomenon has aroused great concern from the whole society. As for me, I prefer to work for an employer. The reasons are as follows: First of all, it is very difficult to run a business after graduation, because it needs firm determination, clear mind and the ability to endure hardship. Second, lots of college graduates have spent too much time studying at school without referring to the requirement of running a business. Therefore, college students should look before leap and make full preparation before starting their own business.。

Finally, arriving at one room, we saw that there wasn't a person in it.The nurse said, "Oh, the man in this room is doing badly. Besides, he's depressed(抑郁的)because he hasn't had any company for three or four days. His family comes to see him once a month, if the weather permits."So, we went in and put the flower in a bottle and set it on the man's bed stand and left. While doing so, the man's eyes followed our movements. Perhaps he was thinking we were going to take it away.Soon we came to the nurse's desk. We had to ask what illness the patient was suffering from. "Brain cancer," wasthe answer. The nurse explained some details about the kindof care he needed. The next afternoon, we pulled back the curtain(窗帘)of the man's room and discovered that he still kept the flower. We went over and talked to him and found that he did not have a family, but had been raised in an orphan home. Now he was all alone in this room, which became his only home. After returning to the nurse's desk, we told the nurse his story."What a pitiful(可怜的)man!" she said. "His only pleasure is to gaze at that flower. Take him another one when you come back."We visited him every day and the man looked forward to our visits. Every time he saw us, his face broke into a warm smile that filled the room with sunshine.问题:Why did the man in the room look forward to their visits every day?答案解析:根据文章内容,作者和他的小组每天都会去病房看望这名患者,并且这名患者无家可归,他的家人每个月只能来看他一次,并且他得的是大脑癌。

They estimate that “in 1994, overall 2,216,000 hospitalized patients had serious ADRs, and 106,000 had fatal ADRs.” This means that ADRs may rank as the fourth single largest cause of death in America..The control of ADRs also means spending more money. One US study estimated the overall cost of treating ADRs at up to $4 billion per year.Dr. David Bates of Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, believes that healthcare workers need to pay more attention to the problem, especially since many ADRs are easily preventable. “When a patient develops an allergy (过敏症) or sensitivity, it is often not recorded,” Bates notes, “and pa tients receive drug to which they have known allergies or sensitivities with disturbing frequency.” He believes special computerized systems – still work-in-progress at many of the nation’s hospitals – should help cut down the frequency of these types of errors.61. Scientists and experts have proved the uniqueness of fingerprints and discovered that no exactly similar pattern ispassed on from parents to children, though nobody knows why this is the case. Some criminals make use of this fact to remove their own fingerprints but this is a dangerous and rare step to take. Fingerprints can be made easily with printer’s ink. Special techniques are used to “develop” them. Some of the marks found are incompl ete but identification is possible if a print in the size of a quarter of an inch square can be obtained.66. What does the writer imply about software competition in the future?A、Brazil may reduce their production costs.B、Japan may employ more quality specialists than other countries.C、India may take the lead in the competition.D、US will surely beat other countries and win the competition. In a family where the roles of men and women are not sharply separated and where many household tasks are shared to a greater or lesser extent, male superiority is hard to maintain. We have almost given up saying t hat a woman’s place is in the home. We are beginning, however, to analyze men’s place in the home and to insist that he does have a place in it. Nor is that place irrelevant to the healthy development of the child.71. To what extent does the writer agree with the historian a century from now?A、He agrees only slightlyB、He agrees almost completely.C、He almost disagrees.D、He disagrees completely.72. (77) Even though we have good intentions, we may be producing too much, too fast. Those who criticize economic growth argue that we must slow down. They believe that society is approaching certain limits on growth. These include the fixed supply of natural resources, the possible negative effects of industry on the natural environment, and the continuing increase in the world’s population. (78) As society reaches these limits, e conomic growth can no longer continue, and the quality of life will decrease.People who want more economic growth, on the other hand, argue that even at the present growth rate there are many poor people in the world.(79) These supporters of economic growth believe that only more growth can create the capital needed to improve the quality of life in the world. Furthermore, they argue that only continued growth can provide the financial resources required to protect our natural surroundings from industrialization. This debate over the desirability of continued economic growth is of vital importance to business and industry. If those who argue against economic growth are correct, the problems they mention cannot be ignored.(80) To find a solution, economists and business community must pay attention to these problems and discuss them with one another. 76. 77. 78. 79. 80.81. 这家商店每天上午八点开门晚上九点关门。

这是旅客入境时海关官员常问的问题。
5 C[听力原文]W: I'd like to catch a return flight on the 29th.M: Well, the price for the flight is $150, almost double the price you would pay if you leave the day before.Q: How much should the woman pay for a flight on the 29th?女士说:“我想赶29日的飞机回去。
”男士针对女士的话回答说需要150美元,同时又说如果女士提前一天回,就只需一半的价格。
问题问的是29日的价格。
6 B[听力原文]M: I'm getting together with Sara and Paul tonight. We're going out to eat and then watch a movie. Why don't you come with us?W: I'd love to, but I have to work hard for a test tomorrow.Q: What will the woman do tonight?女士说“我很想去,可是我得为明天的考试努力学习”,因此可以得出她要待在家里的结论。

11 D[听力原文]11-13Shopping in a foreign country can be a lot of fun-trying to decide what size of your feet are in Britain, or just guessing what the funny cheese tastes like. Shopping can also be disappointing, uncomfortable, and expensive business if you don't know exactly what your rights are in British shops. Here are some simple facts that should make sure your shopping trips are enjoyable. Before you buy anything, be sure that you look at it carefully to check that there are no faults. It may be difficult to convince the shop after you have bought something and taken it home, that it was faulty when you bought. If you are buying clothes, try them on whenever possible. Most stores have changing rooms-either individual rooms or large ones for common use. If a shop does not have a changing room, you should be able to take the goods back if they don't fit-but you must check this with the assistant before you buy something, or you may find that you have bought a pair of trousers that you can never wear!11. Which of the following is NOT true about shopping in a foreign country?
12 B[听力原文]Why do you have to check everything before you buy it?短文中说在购买任何一样东西之前,买者最好仔细检查,看是否有瑕疵。
一旦拿回家后发现瑕疵,再要说服店员瑕疵是购买时就有的,那就很难了。
因此检查的目的是看是否有瑕疵。
13 D[听力原文]Why do you have to try the trousers on before you buy them?
14 A[听力原文]14-16In England bicycles are often called "boneshakers" because they shake your bones! But now there's a new smooth bicycle on the market: it's made of plastic and it comes from Sweden.A lot of different people worked on the development of this new bicycle; the original idea came from an engineer in Sweden, and he asked for help from America as well as from a British firm.Together they solved all the problems. First, they had to invent a new kind of plastic; then they had to design a new shape; and finally they had to produce metal parts which fit properly into the plastic frame. The result is a complete success.Because it has a plastic frame, it is more flexible than the ordinary metal bike. This means that it's more comfortable to ride, and quieter as well. You feel more comfortable as you ride on the road. And of course it won't rust.It never needs oil at the center of the wheels; and it's quite strong, so it won't break if you crash it! The plastic is very hard so it won't be damaged by sunshine or cigarette burns.14. Who came up with the idea of the new bike?短文中说设计这种自行车的想法来自于一个瑞典的工程师,但在设计过程中他寻求了美国以及一家英国公司的帮助。
