C China is a large cotton producer(棉花生产地)in the world. Most of the cotton grows (种植)in Xinjiang. Cotton needs lots of sunshine to grow. Xinjiang is a good place to grow it. It

has lots of sunshine—about 3.000 hours every year. Xinjiang produces over 80% of China’s

cotton. The most famous cotton in Xinjiang is long-staple cotton(长绒棉). It’s warm and

comfortable. It’s good for making cloth and quilts. It’s one of the best kinds of cotton in the

world.

Every year from August to October, it’s a good time for farmers to harvest(收割)cotton.

They can get about 5 million tons of cotton. That’s a lot! But harvesting cotton is not a hard

job for cotton farmers.

A special machine(机器)is here to help. Farmers first fly a drone(无人机)to spray a kind

of special water from the sky. It makes the cotton leaves fall. Then it’s time to drive the

machine. It has a big “mouth” and sharp “teeth”. It can “eat up” all the cotton quickly!

There are many fun things you don't know about cotton. In Chinese, cotton is called

“mianhua”. But in fact, the cotton is not the flower of the plant. It's the fruit. Most cotton is

white. But in Xinjiang, there is colorful cotton. Cotton candy(糖)looks like cotton. But there
